OK, back to recruiting.

Did Myers sign during the early period, or are we deferring him until spring as well?

Yes, Myers has signed.

Yes, Myers has signed.

Is Myers going to be good enough to back up Jio? Sorry, I wasn't following the earlier discussions when they were pursuing him.

Nice,  any further word on Wright as to whether he will sign in this period, the spring or not at all?

I believe it was reported earlier that Wright would not be signing during the fall signing period.

Yes, Myers has signed.

Actually, this might not be a bad signing. We need a backup PG, and an extra ball-handler is welcome. Myers reminds me of a kid DW signed at Wagner (can't remember his name, but he came from Southampton, NY), who was sort of the first guard off the bench for most of his career, then started his senior year after Dedrick Dye had graduated, and did well. If Myers could have a similar career at Fordham, we'd all be very pleased.

Welcome to Fordham, Anthony.

From Zags:

"FORDHAM HOSTING RECRUITS

Fordham snapped a 12-game losing streak to Sacred Heart Wednesdsay night with a 76-66 victory at Rose Hill Gym.

Chris Gaston, who played for both Bob and Dan Hurley at St. Anthony and St. Benedict’s, respectively, put up 22 points and 13 boards and former St. Anthony star Jio Fontan added 17 points and 7 assists. Brenton Butler scored 15 for the Rams (1-2) and Alberto Estwick, another former Bob Hurley product, added 12.

Fordham has hosted a bunch of stellar recruits in recent days. 6-5 senior guard Jayon James of Paterson Catholic, Sean Grennan, a 6-foot junior guard from Monsignor Donovan (N.J.), and 6-2 junior guard Xavier Munford of St. Benedict’s were at Wednesday’s game.

James; Paterson Catholic junior point guard Myles Mack; 6-7 PC sophomore guard Kyle Anderson; Jason Boswell, a 6-4 freshman wing from St. Patrick; Tiquan Goodlet, a 6-1 junior point guard from St. Anthony; Emmanuel Andujar, a 6-5 junior wing from Rice; Josh Gomez, a 6-9 junior post from Rice; and Theo Boyomo, a 6-9 senior from Kent (Conn.) School, were all at Fordham last Friday for the game against Maine."

Are we seriously in the running for Jayon James?

Not sure if Fordham wants him, but Lance said that Fordham is on the top of the list for Jayon last time I spoke to him on facebook.

Some of our best recruiters are our players.  Sure, we've struggled as a program for a while, but when you have players like Lance Brown, Chris Gaston, Jio and Alberto on your team, and they are enjoying Fordham as much as they are, you're going to get other players interested in coming.  It's a form of social media marketing - it becomes viral.  One guy tells another via text or on Facebook "yeah, this place is cool" and all of a sudden you have other good players taking a serious look at Fordham.  Welcome to the new world of basketball recruiting.

While I agree that recruiting has changed and Facebook and similar programs make it easy for kids to communicate with each other, we came very close to losing Jio this season. If we succeed, we will get better players. If we continue to lose and the DW situation remains uncertain, we can expect getting kids for the most part who think they can play here right away or have few other D 1 options.

Or we'll get kids that are recruited by Jared Grasso.  Although Steve T. did a very nice job grabbing Brennen Melvin.  That kid is a player.

I think that "high school" was commenting on the point that social networking can have a negative effect as well as a positive effect, depending on the results of the program and the environment. A kid can say "yeah, this place is sucks" just as easily as "yeah, this place is cool" and that can become truly viral, negatively impacting even the best recruiting efforts.

You know how corporations and politicians release bad news in the afternoon before a long weekend? I would not be surprised to see Fordham issue its press release on the Fall signing on Wednesday afternoon. This way fewer people will notice that Joel Wright did not sign.

Wasn't there speculation that Derrick Williams would not actually sign an LOI to Richmond this fall? Apparently not true.

Men's Basketball Announces Signing Of Lindsay, Sparrow And Williams
The Spiders signed guard Cedrick Lindsay (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga College Prep), guard Wayne Sparrow (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances) and forward Derrick Williams (State Island, N.Y./St. Anthony's).
