1  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Men's Soccer Beats SJU on: October 16, 2017, 03:38:46 pm
Bohm received the A10 Rookie of the Week Award and Nuhu (GK) won A10 Defensive Player of the Week.
2  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball's Fairchild Leads the Nation on: October 16, 2017, 03:35:38 pm
Sophomore Olivia Fairchild is #1 in the country in Div 1 in aces with 52 and #1 in aces per set with .70.

Team-wise, we are #1 with 2.52 aces per set and #2 in total aces with 160.

Too bad the rest of our game isn't nearly as good.  Still, we are a very young team and are much improved over recent years.  We should only get better, but need a few more quality players and consistency.
3  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Women's Soccer Loses To #1 LaSalle on: October 15, 2017, 02:57:39 pm
We lost 1-0 on a penalty kick at the 85th minute.

We were totally outplayed with LaSalle getting 11 shots and 4 shots on goal to our 4 and 2.  We had 10 fouls to their 6, but one was crucial and meant a penalty late in the game.

We're 2-4-2, 5-7-5 and continue to have trouble scoring goals, not having scored in the last 6 matches.

LaSalle is 8-0, 13-3-1.
4  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball Gets Swept By Duquesne on: October 15, 2017, 02:30:04 pm
We lost 25-16, 25-22, 25-15.

This was a pretty poor performance against a team we were tied with for 5th in the A10 at 3-4 and who were only 8-13 overall.

We only hit .160 to Duquesne's .299.  Fairchild was at .130 with only 7 kills.  Morley was high with 9 kills, but she only hit .192.

This team is so inconsistent, I never know from one match to the next which team is going to show up.

We drop to 11-10, 3-5 and are probably in 8th place.

5  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Men's Soccer Beats SJU on: October 14, 2017, 09:00:55 pm
The score was 1-0 on a goal by Bohm.  SJU just missed tying it with 23 seconds left.

It was a bit of a sloppy game, including poorly time killing on our part in the last minute.   It was also pretty physical, with SJU getting 15 fouls called against them.

We had 14 shots to their 7.  Both teams had 7 shots on goal.  We had 8 corners to their 3.

Both keepers made some excellent saves.

The win keeps us in 4th place at 9-3-2, 3-1-1.  SJU drops to 3-7-4, 1-2-1.  UMass, URI and VCU are ahead of us in the standings.  We have matches vs URI and UMass coming up.

6  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball Sweeps LaSalle on: October 13, 2017, 08:35:07 pm
We won in 3 sets, 25-19, 29-27, and 25-17 to go to 11-9, 3-4.  LaSalle is in last place at 10-12, 1-6.

We hit .266 to .151 and finally outblocked someone by 7:1.

Benjamin had a great night, hitting .556 with 12 kills.  Fairchild hit .429 with 10 kills, 5 aces and 10 digs.  Walsh had 38 digs.  All three are sophomores.

We next play Duquesne Sunday at 1 pm.

7  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Women's Soccer Ties With Davidson on: October 13, 2017, 03:57:50 pm
Despite out shooting Davidson 14-6, with 7 shots on goal to 2, and 10 corner kicks to none, we tied a 2-13, 0-6 team 0-0 after 2 OTs.  This team just doesn't have it this year.  We're now 5-6-5, 2-3-2, tied for 8th place in the A10.
8  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: WBB - Catching Up With Coach Gaitley on: October 11, 2017, 04:12:59 pm
The latest interview between Coach Steph and Bre Cavanaugh, who was with the team, but had to sit out last year.  Loved her spirit and enthusiasm even when she couldn't play.

9  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: WBB - Catching Up With Coach Gaitley on: October 11, 2017, 03:40:42 pm
Latest episode with newest Ram , Vilisi Tavui, a 6'4" center from Fiji, known by Assistant Coach, Valerie Nainima.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8Mhx2tIck8&feature=youtu.be

This is truly an international team, with players from New Zealand (3), Germany, Latvia, and Fiji, and coaches from Poland, Fiji and Barbados.

We now have 6 players who are 6" or taller and two are 6'4".  It'll be interesting to see how Coach Steph utilizes an advantage she's seldom had.
10  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Women's Soccer Loses To Richmond on: October 08, 2017, 06:40:34 pm
Four straight shutouts. You have to generate quality shots and score some goals in womenís soccer. The good teams score goals. You canít win every game 1-0. It might sound over simplified, but itís a fact. LaSalle hung six on UMass today. Thatís what good teams do.
Yep.  We have only 15 goals in 16 games, but had 3 vs UMass.  UMass has given up 25 goals in 16 games.  LaSalle is the best team in the A10 with 35 goals...just "a few more than us".  Shocked
11  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Women's Soccer Loses To Richmond on: October 08, 2017, 03:25:08 pm
After tying a weak Bonnies team 0-0, we lost to an equally weak Spiders team 1-0 in the 2nd overtime despite controlling the ball most of the game.  The Richmond player stole the ball on a goal kick and was 1 on 1 with Lamorte, our keeper.

For some reason, 3 of our best players, Baker-Durante, Miller and Busacca played only about half of the game.

We had 16 shots, 3 shots on goal and 4 corners.  Richmond had 12 shots, 5 shots on goal and 5 corners.

We drop to 5-6-4, 2-3-1 and Richmond is now 2-10-1 and 2-3-1.  After a 10-5-5, 5-1-4 record last year, making the A10 championship, this has been a pretty disappointing year.

12  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Water Polo Splits Matches in CA on: October 08, 2017, 02:12:54 pm
We also split the next two CA matches, beating La Verne 14-9 but losing to a not-so-good Fresno Pacific team 13-10.  The latter loss will probably knock us out of the rankings.

In Match 1, Miller-Tolt, who led our team in scoring as a freshman last year, had 6 goals and Marachi had 4.  They had 2 and 4 goals respectively in Match 2.

10 of our players are from California.
13  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Volleyball Loses 3-1 to Dayton on: October 08, 2017, 02:03:44 pm
Thank you for all of your recaps on all of the games! I enjoy reading them a lot.

This might be one of the most fun teams to watch at Fordham at this point. This program hasn't had a lot of success in pretty much its history and we frustratingly came up empty this weekend in a pair of games at home, this is part of having some of our best players being underclassmen. Fairchild is a special player and Lahr has had some flashes too, which is exciting because she's only a freshman.

The record might be ugly this year, especially since the schedule now gets more difficult, but I see the growth of this team and I think it'll be definitely be one to watch next year. If we can somehow stay out of the bottom 4 and make A10s for the first time since 2010, it'll be a great accomplishment for this group!
We've played the best 3 teams in the A10 in VCU, Dayton, and St. Louis and have gotten better with each match.  None of our best players is a senior.
We need more height for middle blocking though to reduce the kills, but minimally get some touches and allow for better passes to the setter.  We don't get nearly the number of good kill swings as we should.

Coach Ullery is somewhat unique in coaching style in matches, allowing her assistants to be very active in their participation, particularly Coach Choi.
14  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Water Polo Splits Matches in CA on: October 06, 2017, 11:19:20 pm
Our 19th ranked team lost 12-9 to #15 CA Baptist, then easily beat Occidental 13-4.  Our best player, Marachi had 4 goals in the opener and only took 1 shot in the 2nd game.  It doesn't state his minutes played.  Hope he was just rested and not injured.

We have two more games tomorrow out in CA before returning home for a league match in 10 days vs Wagner.

We're now 10-5 on the season.  I'm hoping the 2 close losses in a week to higher ranked teams doesn't hurt our rankings too much.
15  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball Loses 3-1 to Dayton on: October 06, 2017, 09:12:05 pm
We are now 1-36 vs Dayton having lost 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25.  The last two sets may be the best I've seen us play all year vs quality competition.  This should be minimally be a moral victory.

We only hit .138 to the Flyers' .231.  We did better blocking but were still outblocked 13-6.  Fairchild had 19 kills, 10 dig and 2 aces.  Lahr had 12 kills and 12 digs.  Morley didn't have a good hitting night, but had 12 digs.

We're now 10-8, 2-3 while Dayton is 12-6, 4-0, tied with VCU for 1st.

We play St. Louis tomorrow, who are 3-1 in league play.
16  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Volleyball Beats GW on: October 02, 2017, 03:52:20 pm
Morley was subsequently named the A10 Player of the Week and Lahr was named A10 Rookie of the Week.  The was Morley's 1st and Lahr's 2nd.
17  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Water Polo Defeats #18 GW on: October 01, 2017, 06:18:40 pm
We subsequently met #16 Bucknell, league leader, and lost 9-8 in overtime.  Bucknell scored with 15 seconds left in regulation with a man advantage to force the overtime.  Mirarchi had 4 goals.
18  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball Beats GW on: October 01, 2017, 02:53:20 pm
It took four sets, but we won 25-18, 25-11, 21-25, 25-22.

Fairchild had an off day, only hitting .080, but had 8 aces (a 4 set record) and 15 digs.  We had 18 service aces (tying a 4 set record) and 8 service errors.

We hit .250 overall.  Morley had 15 kills and 13 digs; Lahr had a career high 19 kills; Williams had 14 digs, a little below her 4.25 digs/set average.  We were outblocked once again, 11-3.

That makes our record 10-7, 2-2 while GW is now 5-12, 1-2.

We face Dayton and St. Louis this week, usually the top two teams in the conference.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Fall Softball Schedule on: October 01, 2017, 01:50:05 pm
We won a close one vs Manhattan, 4-3, that could have easily been a loss, as we scored 2 on a missed pop fly.  We finished 8-0.  Only half of the games were against decent competition.

GR Quense and FR Prentiss pitched, the latter giving up a 2-run HR.  FR Rauch came in to close it out.

Offensively, let's just say Shaw continued where she left off in the regular season with another 2-run HR.

20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Fall Softball Schedule on: October 01, 2017, 01:40:59 pm
We easily beat Army, 9-1 behind SO Aughinbaugh and FR Rauch in the circle.  We had 3 HRs (Quense, Shaw, Hubertus).  I was expecting this to be a close game.  We're 7-0 for the Fall and face Manhattan this afternoon to end the season.

The SID decided to post the scores on the schedule site so there's no reason for me to hold back.
21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Fall Softball Schedule on: September 30, 2017, 09:50:45 pm
We easily beat Dominican, another Div II program, to go to 6-0, but gave up 8 runs on 15 hits and had 5 errors.  I'm not sure who pitched, but we should be deep enough against this level team to do a lot better.  As for the defense, with all of the freshman and/or players in new positions, I expected this to be a problem.

We had 17 runs on 22 hits.

We play Army and Manhattan tomorrow who were #121 and #210 respectively last year.
22  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball Sweeps George Mason on: September 29, 2017, 08:28:00 pm
After starting off the A10 with losses to Davidson and VCU, we easily beat George Mason 25-16/15/14 to go to 9-7, 1-2.  George Mason dropped to 5-12, 1-2.

We had a .266 hitting percentage to GM's .070 and 11 service aces to their none.

Morley had a good match, with a career high 16 kills and a .435 hitting percentage; Lahr had 11 kills, 15 digs and hit .222; Fairchild had 9 and hit .318.  Fairchild also had 4 aces.  Walsh had 33 assists and a career high 4 blocks.  Once again, were were outblocked 9 to 6.

We next play GW Sunday at 1 pm.

23  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Water Polo Defeats #18 GW on: September 28, 2017, 01:02:49 am
Water polo is now tied at 19th best team in the country.

26  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Water Polo Defeats #18 GW on: September 24, 2017, 03:19:16 pm
Today we beat George Washington 8-7, our first win over a ranked opponent since 2010 when we beat #16 Concordia.

Marachi, an unbelievable transfer, had 6 of our 8 goals

That makes us 7-2, 3-0.  The conference start is our best in over 20 years.  GW was 2nd in the conference last year with an 8-2 record.  This year they are now 7-6, 1-2, having lost to favorite, Bucknell, whom we play next on Oct 1.
27  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Women's Soccer Defeats UMass on: September 24, 2017, 03:04:45 pm
Oddly enough, we hadn't played UMass since 2013.  UMass leads the series 13-5.

UMass took the lead 1-0 early but we came back with a goal by Clara Gastaldi (her 1st) and Lane Cronon's header (her 2nd) for a 2-1 lead at the half.  Amanda Miller scored (her 3rd) at the 58 minute mark on a 10 yarder to the far post to put the Rams up 3-1.  UMass had a PK with 2 minutes remaining to make it 3-2 Rams.

We controlled possession most of the first half and UMass did in the second half.  We had 9 shots to their 10 and 4 shots on goal to their 5.  UMass had 2 corners to our none.  UMass had 2 yellow cards to our none.

We go to 5-3-3, 2-0 while UMass drops to 4-5-1, 1-1.
28  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Volleyball Drops 3 to VCU on: September 24, 2017, 01:42:44 pm
Not surprisingly, we lost to a strong league leading VCU team, but we gave them a challenge in the first two sets, losing 25-22, 26-24, before once again falling apart in set 3, losing 25-16.

Our hitting percentage was pretty good until the third set and we wound up with a poor .170 to VCU's .316.

Morley had 13 kills and Fairchild was held to 5, many of her attack attempts being blocked.

Our blocking remains sub par.  VCU got 8 points off blocks to our 3.  The poor blocking also makes passing more difficult, often winding up in tougher sets, and ultimately, fewer kills.

Too many unforced errors, including letting easy balls drop between players thinking the other was going to get it.

We're 8-7, 0-2 while VCU is 15-2, 2-0.
29  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Fordham Beats Bryant - In Men's Soccer That Is on: September 24, 2017, 12:35:30 am
Elsewhere, conference favorite St. Louis beat #5 Stanford 2-0.
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ Bryant on: September 23, 2017, 11:14:40 pm
Meanwhile, Joe calls Penn State to a last second win over Iowa, 21-19.  We sure miss him.
