The students have come out for free caps and pizza, and then leave soon after.  Even the University choir students who sing the National Athemn dash for the exits before the game starts along with their faculty director who, I'm told, gets paid to sing the NA. It is what it is.  If the team wins consistently some students might show up along with others who like to identify with winners.
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Exhibition Game Fredonia 11/3 on: November 09, 2017, 04:25:48 pm
Only Fredonia, so what.  Appears Rams on turnaround trip. Hope a good season and victory at SJU,  Re players lost to other programs, a few comments on EP.  He received some rough handling here when he left but the kid that emerged at NOVA was a pleasure.  Last year because of the very thin roster, he had to play lots of minutes at the 5.  Never complained, got banged around by BE bigs but performed admirably.  He's grown a bit and looks a lot more athletic since I first saw him in a scrimmage his red shirt year.  Lots of reasons a kid transfers, but that doesn't make him bad.

EP was liked by the other players and the fans while he was here.  Transfers happen, and if he had to play a lot of minutes last year, that's satisfies the hope of a player when he transfers, especially after they had to sit out a year.

What country is Fredonia?  Evil

Is that near the Duchy of Lower Silesia?

For Rufus T. the spelling of the country was (Hail) Freedonia.

How about starting a thread recapping the Tip-Off Dinner?

Recap of Dinner: Fresh green salad with shredded apples and buttermilk dressing; choice of grilled red snapper or filet mignon; raspberry sorbet with strawberries and blueberries.
5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 02:20:40 pm
I mentioned this early in Jordan's senior year and wondered the same.  He was a late signee at Richmond.

Thank you for that information.
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 11:33:04 am
That is exactly the way your first post read and quite frankly what you meant. Why bring it up if you donít want to say he should be a recruit?   You say we recruit over seas but not 300 yards away.  You quote his stats as if we missed out on this great scorer. Come on.

I brought it up because it was publicly mentioned by Coach Gaitley and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver mentioned her other son at the Tip-OFF Dinner on Monday.  Next time you see me at a game, I'd appreciate it if you can have a conversation with me.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 11:21:21 am
You said there was zero talk, but there actually was some talk about him last year. txram brought him up and there was some discussion about him. Your comment about 300 yards away also implied that we never took a look at him. I do not know if we looked at him or not, so I am not going to assume anything one way or the other.

Right.  I missed the discussion on him at the time. But that's different from others assuming that I'm arguing that he should've been a recruit.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 11:18:11 am
It was discussed here.  You missed it.

I did.  That's why I asked the question.
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 10:32:26 am
Youse guys missed the point completely.  Which was whether there was any discussion on this Board whether he might be a player who could help us, even as a walk-on as his brother was.
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: October 31, 2017, 11:27:14 pm
He is a walk on. Awkward to coach your colleagues son.

That's one way to look at it.   Huh?
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: October 31, 2017, 09:25:43 pm
Jordan Gaitley, son of Fordham Women's Basketball Coach Gaitley, is a Freshman on the Richmond Spiders basketball team.  He was 2017 League MVP of New York's Catholic High Schools Athletic Association (CHSAA) A Division
Averaged 20.5 points per game as a senior ... led team to CHSAA A Divisional Final
Class A first-team All-State selection.
Coach Gaitley had previously coached at Richmond, so there was that connection, but how come there was zero talk about the possibility of Jordan Gaitley playing for the Men's Basketball Rams?  We have an International field for recruiting, which is good; so is looking just 300 yards to the west of the RHG for a potential prospect.
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Season Predictions 2017-2018 on: October 31, 2017, 07:58:32 am
It wouldnít be surprising this season if we see significant playing time from the newcomers on the team: Hicks, Evans and Raut.  It will allow more breathers for others so that we donít have the problem of a number of players with too many minutes game after game.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham New team podcast on: October 24, 2017, 12:18:13 pm
Another good interview from Brenton. It's good to hear that Perris is healthy and eager to play great D.  When Perris signed we heard good things from his Mom here and he sounds like he has her good vibes. Best wishes to Perris for the coming season!
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Starting Line Up '17-18' on: October 17, 2017, 07:35:43 pm
Chartouny mentioned Havsa playing the point in the Petty podcast. Interesting we have some options in the back court this year.

Options and Fordham basketball 2 words that for many years we haven't seen in the same sentence describing the team's opportunities.
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Starting Line Up '17-18' on: October 17, 2017, 02:44:53 pm
Based on the Will Tavares comments from Neubauer new prediction:

Chartouny
Evans
Tavares
Ohams
Slanina

Bench

Havsa
Hicks
Bunting
Pekarek
Raut

That's a keen reading of the tea leaves to divine the starting 5. Add +Zarko in the mix
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A-10 Media Day Tomorrow to include Interview with Coach Neubauer on: October 17, 2017, 11:15:45 am
9 of the 10 players on the first and second all conference teams are seniors. You have got to develop players in this league.

For most of the past 20 seasons, for one reason or another relating to our instability, we have had few Seniors providing advanced skills for the team.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham New team podcast on: October 16, 2017, 10:18:44 am
I am hoping that the communications department picks up on this young manís good work and encourages future students to try similar things.  Good stuff.

The people who have the initiative, like Brenton, do the job.  If anyone else out there wanted to do it, they would have done it already. Keep it going, Brenton!
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham New team podcast on: October 12, 2017, 11:02:53 pm
Considering that I think there is a 95 plus percent chance that JC leaves after this season, I find it ironic that he trashed AA and CS, even though I agree with him.
He left his options open depending on outside circumstances, like getting drafted, and gave FU thanks for making his life easier by accepting 30 pre-FU credits and giving him the opportunity to pursue a Masters degree at FU, if he stays here a year after he graduates. What's wrong with any of that?
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham New team podcast on: October 12, 2017, 10:56:42 pm
Ilumuninating interview, insights into the departing players not buying into the system. Joe is a thoughtful even keeled guy which will serve him well for his future endeavors. Good show!

It's interesting that Ivan got a shout out in the this week's report.  He was a 6-7" triple question mark when added to the Roster and was generally seen as being a non-factor this season.  If he does get playing time, it will add to his mysterious acquisition and be a coach's vote of confidence in his abilities.
21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Starting Line Up '17-18' on: October 09, 2017, 02:16:53 pm
If we can shoot overall 100% from the field like that, I think it's not being unrealistic to say that we can win some games and surprise some teams.  Roll Eyes
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Chris Austin 2018 6-4 SG commits on: October 01, 2017, 11:12:53 pm
Keep these late night pick ups coming.  It's good to see that the recruiting pipeline is active in the fall period. It bodes well for the upcoming season, even if we have to wait a year to see the new recruits on the court. Welcome Chris!
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Nick Honor PG 2018 Commits on: September 28, 2017, 09:06:06 am
I don't see how we can can be anything but excited about this. This is nothing like JN's past signings of smaller guards (Smith and Hardnett). This is someone giving a verbal in the early period who was offered by peer schools and higher. Beating Dayton and Memphis for a player is huge. Small quick guards are fine in JN's system. Slow players are not. With all recruits it is wait and see but this has all the makings of a quality add.

That's a good analysis, and as suggested a strong PG can compete well.
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Nick Honor PG 2018 Commits on: September 27, 2017, 11:35:00 pm
It appears that he's already playing for a Ram team.
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Nick Honor PG 2018 Commits on: September 27, 2017, 11:20:43 pm
He's smaller than the 6'-4" guard the staff seemed locked on to lately, so they must like his moves and shooting. It's good to get an early commit of a player that may help us a lot. As PM said, Let's keep it going.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham New team podcast on: September 22, 2017, 07:56:19 am
Brenton's interview of Chuba provided a number in insights into what happening with the team, the new players, what went on last season, and glimpses of what we should expect this year.  Good job by Brenton supplying much needed information.
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: September 09, 2017, 10:31:59 pm
Doesn't sound like the last 2 posts are things that would've  made JN  happy as JohnG92 indicated he was this weekend.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Starting Line Up '17-18' on: September 05, 2017, 09:25:59 am
All of the talk on the Roster compelled me to look at it. It's interesting that all of the players weights except one, Gazi, are listed with either a 0 or a 5 as the last number.  It assumes a steady, season long diet.
29  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: INTEREST RE: THIRD ANNUAL fordhamfans.com NORTH FORK BASKETBALL + LUNCHEON? on: August 19, 2017, 04:05:32 pm
Report from 3rd Annual North Fork Luncheon:

Sheltered from a raging thunderstorm by the fortifying food and drinks at Pepi's restaurant in Southold, L. I. yesterday, a dozen Fordham fans had two lively round table discussions centering on their involvement and memories of Fordham sports, and their views on the up-coming Ram basketball season.
Individual remarks made in the round table discussion revealed a consensus that: 1) It may be hard to replace the scoring production of the 3 players lost from last years team, 2) The coach and staff have shown that they can teach the team to play defense and that defensive skill can win games thought unwinnable, 3) Recruiting of new players has been slow and disappointing, so far, with the players coming from not well known and unexpected places, and 4) Unless there is a rapid development of some players on the team who showed flashes of their potential last year, and the emergence of some new players on the team, we're likely to end up with approximately 13 to 15 wins at best.
The group welcomed incoming freshman Emmanuel Berbari, FC 2021, whose distinctive baritone voice and enthusiasm for sports broadcasting indicated to all that he had great expectations for joining a long list of Fordham alums who have made their mark in the broadcasting field.
Despite the heavy weather the group of die-hard Ram basketball fans showed how well they have adjusted to adversity as Fordham Fans over the years by having a great time. Congratulations to organizer JoeSunfish and everyone else for turning a stormy day sunny.  (A group photo will follow to elicit the usual comments of those not in attendance).  Wink
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: August 16, 2017, 12:57:15 pm
Agreed J-Sal, the renovation shows a better staged place than the look of the prior RHG.  That could be caused by the overall level of design today is so much better than it was in the past. It also shows the potential for good design possible in a New Arena/Multi-Purpose facility on Parking Lot A if there exists the collective will to achive it.
THIS POST HAS AN IMMEDIATE EXPIRATION DATE OF RIGHT AFTER IT'S READ AND DOES NOT EXPECT OR INVITE ANY RESPONSES ON A NEW ARENA, A SUBJECT HAS ALREADT BEEN SUFFICIENTLY AIRED HERE.
