1  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Ivan Raut signs with Fordham on: July 12, 2017, 01:55:22 pm
Look forward to seeing Ivan on the court.  He's about as off the radar screen as imaginable, but he played for a team that emphasized D like JN does, he shot for a high %, and he apparently had high and low games that the coaching staff sees as a chance to turn into more highs. In short: a 2017 Ram diamond in the rough.
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Rothstein's A-10 Offseason Notebook on: July 10, 2017, 07:26:08 pm
I think I'm in the minority here but I expect us to be better then next season and the reason I say that is I think our shooting should improve dramatically.  We are essentially replacing Hawkins and Anderson with Evans and Hicks.  While I think we may miss their athleticism and ability to get to the hoop, the three point shooting of Hicks and Evans will shine in Neubauer's offense.  I'm also very high on Havsa.  Watching videos of him play with the Turkish U-20 things makes me feel like his confidence is sky high right now and his shooting has looked great as well.  Don't underestimate his ability to create next year.

I think the X factor next year will be if either Ohams, Pekarek, or Tavares can step into that 4 role and really shine.  Ohams defensive intensity is fantastic and his passing is underrated but he really needs to improve his shot.  While Pekarek and Tavares have shown flashes of being great all around players but lack consistency.

Lastly, as long as everyone stays healthy I feel like this team has a much deeper bench in years past.  There will be some real talent outside the starting 5.  Take a look at the two lineups below.

First Unit
G- Havsa
G- Chartouny
G- Hicks
F - Ohams
F - Slanina

Second Unit
G - Zarkovic
G - Evans
G - Taveres
F - Pekarek
F - Bunting

I think you're on to something.  We have a lot more players coming back, more depth than any time in memory, who have had a chance to play with each. And we have several young players who showed some talent which could possibly fully develop this season.  No way we should be last in A-10 this season.
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: DePaul transfer Erten Gazi has committed to Fordham, per a source. on: June 29, 2017, 04:21:28 pm
That's a good point. I'm assuming that the guys coming off surgery/injuries are healthy and they feel confident carrying these two guys for a year.

I know, I know... lots of assumptions on my part.

It's probably too early, from what I've heard, to make the assumption that the guys coming off injuries are ready to play.  We probably won't know their condition until late October at the earliest.
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: DePaul transfer Erten Gazi has committed to Fordham, per a source. on: June 29, 2017, 04:15:52 pm
The issue with someone like Gazi is that his recruitment and signing appears to come after we whiffed on other recruits.  Do you think he was high up on our list of targets?  Do you think he's here if certain others sign on first?  Would you rather have him than any of the others we were linked to?  If our staff didn't have him as a priority (which I'm not sure about), then it doesn't say much about what they think about his abilities.

When did he first become available this year?  If it was only recently it changes the assessment.
5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: DePaul transfer Erten Gazi has committed to Fordham, per a source. on: June 29, 2017, 12:06:54 pm
How about Mandell Thomas?  I recall people on this board having a very negative reaction to his signing, and he turned out to be one of our best players, and a real leader.

I've also heard people saying that, even though Gazi is from a Big East school, he's not the same level as a transfer like Mo Curtis.  Although Curtis was phenomenal at Fordham, his performance at West Virginia didn't foreshadow is potential.  He played 3 games in 2 years at West Virginia (on teams that did not have winning records), and was far less a contributor than Gazi was at DePaul.  Bottom line -- give these kids a chance before you label them as not being a difference makers.

Great point about Mo at WVU. Terrific player for FU. Truncated time here though losing 1/2 season w broken hand & not getting dxtrsyear eligilbilith

Drunkle makes a good case for being cautiously optimistic about the coming season and I don't disagree. There are obvious flashing yellow lights out there, we don't know how fit Hicks and Pekarek will be after their injuries, but we may see enough improvement from Slanina, Ohams, Havsa, Bunting and Taveras to get us some unexpected wins.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Joe Chartouny on: June 26, 2017, 02:06:34 pm
I wonder if he could beat the guy the Knicks picked with their 2nd round pick, Ognjen Jaramaz, in one on one.

It would be good in TWO ( 2 ) years if they both had to battle it out for a place on the Knicks.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: June 24, 2017, 09:11:07 pm
We'll know when they commit and are announced.
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: June 24, 2017, 01:32:38 pm
I never quite understood the deadline as it now stands. If a kid can commit post deadline, and its just a matter of semantics on signing or not, the spring signing period seems pretty much moot.

I again heard about 2 big Euros but at this point, they could just commit in August, no real timing issue, just torturing the Ram fans a little!

As if we haven't been tortured to the max. Over the past decades.
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: June 24, 2017, 10:49:49 am
Will be interesting to see if the 2 Euros, players, expected to join the team for next season will be able to contribute immediately and significantly.
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Joe Chartouny on: June 24, 2017, 10:45:02 am
He's playing for the Rams this coming season after wisely testing the Pro waters this Spring.  Good for him on both counts.
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Starting Line Up '17-18' on: June 05, 2017, 09:51:32 am
A couple of new players may possibly be coming in, but taking a guess right now, it looks like the Rams starting line up could be: Chartouny, Evans, Havsa, Pekarek and Slannia.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Pre Pre Season X & O on: June 01, 2017, 08:35:42 am
Or we can not change the way we play but recruit some more Bigs since we have spots open on the team.
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 29, 2017, 10:45:29 pm
This year, it's been the Kiss of Death for a potential recruit having his name mentioned on this Board.
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 29, 2017, 10:42:59 pm
Questo non e bono. Peccato!
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham’s Joseph Chartouny to Declare for NBA Draft on: May 19, 2017, 08:49:53 pm
Welcome news!  It stops the out migration and gives us an opportunity to rebuild. We're down one big now, let's see what we get before the season starts.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Disappointed ! on: May 18, 2017, 09:07:35 pm
Disappointed, Or to put it another way, if our recruiting is done for the year, we have replaced our 3 or 4 outgoing starting players with only 1 player, who may be a starting caliber player.  We have a coaching staff, along with an ample recruiting budget, which is collectively paid close to a million dollars and they can only attract one player from the entire world to come to Fordham.  The lack of communication from the team to its fans is straggering.
It all just doesn't add up; we're missing some key information that can shred some light on what's going on.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 04:11:55 pm
Could be but I am surprised that with today's social media, info like that wouldn't leak out.

The assumption here was that because of social media we'd learn early in the signing period of FU signees.  We're at the end of the signing period and haven't heard much.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: May 17, 2017, 03:34:49 pm
take a deeper look. Many people bought into Frank and his tired old excuses about the admin and lack of success. We hired a guy from the scrap heap, Dave Roach, who had experience and was a yawner of a hire. All of a sudden we are now winning in virtually every sport. We got an AD who fixed Franks screw up with Pecora and did it the right way and hired a real coach. ANd won 17 games and played in a post season. Essentially he eviscerated all of the old lame ass excuses for not winning across the board.

I think if you brought in a real , qualified fund raising VP for athletics, we would see a monumental turnaround, very quickly. Similar to the success under Dave Roach after Frank was removed as the AD.

We are in an era of consistent success in Forhdam athletics across the board. Most since Dave Roach was hired. Instead of building upon it and taking the next step, the BOT and FOF want us to take 100 steps back and forever honor the prior AD who was famous for unprecedented failure for 25 years.

That's exactly the way I see it. It's like trying to lift the Titanic from the bottom of the ocean. Eventually, a new cast will replace the present one and with any luck things will turn around.
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 11:33:50 am
Looks like eastern Europe and Turkey for rest of this years recruits.  Not much left in US.

Don't forget sunny Italy.

Is tomorrow the last day for Spring signings?
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham’s Joseph Chartouny to Declare for NBA Draft on: May 16, 2017, 09:48:53 am
Could be he lands on their Development Team.
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: May 12, 2017, 01:08:27 am
There will not be any naming of the RHG for any  " McGlaughlin," rest assured.  It's possible, if enough investors contribute, that the RHG will be named after one or more "McLaughlins".  Wink
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 02, 2017, 09:01:04 am
Good news coming soon.

So far, no news has been good news.
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: May 02, 2017, 05:41:47 am
I'm guessing that AA is smart enough to know that there's no upside to bad-mouthing your former school...

You're right.  If he likely reads this Board, he sees that there already are enough Fordham bashers.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: May 01, 2017, 08:05:15 am
Anytime you're going from a sub-.500 mid-major program to a program like UConn, even if they're rebuilding, the grass is much, much greener.  To think otherwise is not dealing in reality v

And you might even find most of the fans there are rooting for their team  Wink
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: April 30, 2017, 06:31:35 am
International it will be if national doesn't pan out.  Best would be combo of the two.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 25, 2017, 11:47:01 am
Since he has been here he has signed 9 players.  Hardnett, Smith, Slanina, Havsa, Taveras, Hawkins, Pekarek, Ohams, Hicks. And to an extent 10, since he had to essentially go up to Canada and re-recruit Chartouny. The only 2 he has not retained left due to a stated desire to go back closer to home, and inability to acclimate to living in NYC.

He has his own strategy for recruiting. The prior coach swung for the home run every year, hit 2 or 3 but struck out with most of his other recruits. JN is recruiting across the board, good all around ball players. Let's see who he signs before declaring this a failure. His track record is not as bad as being portrayed here with recruiting. He is more of a lunch pail guy, like Nick in his heyday.

Agreed. Now if you looking for a real long shot to go full circle and drive everyone crazy, Nick Macarchuk IV, Nick's 6'-6" grandson is post-graduating from playing at St. Thomas More Prep.
29  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 25, 2017, 10:48:59 am
I do think that JN is a very good coach... as to the recruiting aspect?Huh?  Just for the record, I was one of the very first posters who questioned DW's "coaching" ability and I was never a Coach Pecora supporter....

In fairness to DW, he did say publicly several times that basketball is a 'reaction" game in answer to why, on timeouts, he didn't spent the full amount of time coaching the players in the huddle and sending them out on the court to await the players on the opposing team who were getting lengthier instructions from their coach.
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 25, 2017, 10:42:12 am
At this late hour, the most important information we can get, short of an announced commitment,  is what players have visited FU's Campus, and which of those players have spent some time recently with the FU Admissions Department
