1  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Starting Line Up '17-18' on: June 05, 2017, 09:51:32 am
A couple of new players may possibly be coming in, but taking a guess right now, it looks like the Rams starting line up could be: Chartouny, Evans, Havsa, Pekarek and Slannia.
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Pre Pre Season X & O on: June 01, 2017, 08:35:42 am
Or we can not change the way we play but recruit some more Bigs since we have spots open on the team.
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 29, 2017, 10:45:29 pm
This year, it's been the Kiss of Death for a potential recruit having his name mentioned on this Board.

Questo non e bono. Peccato!
5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham’s Joseph Chartouny to Declare for NBA Draft on: May 19, 2017, 08:49:53 pm
Welcome news!  It stops the out migration and gives us an opportunity to rebuild. We're down one big now, let's see what we get before the season starts.
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Disappointed ! on: May 18, 2017, 09:07:35 pm
Disappointed, Or to put it another way, if our recruiting is done for the year, we have replaced our 3 or 4 outgoing starting players with only 1 player, who may be a starting caliber player.  We have a coaching staff, along with an ample recruiting budget, which is collectively paid close to a million dollars and they can only attract one player from the entire world to come to Fordham.  The lack of communication from the team to its fans is straggering.
It all just doesn't add up; we're missing some key information that can shred some light on what's going on.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 04:11:55 pm
Could be but I am surprised that with today's social media, info like that wouldn't leak out.

The assumption here was that because of social media we'd learn early in the signing period of FU signees.  We're at the end of the signing period and haven't heard much.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: May 17, 2017, 03:34:49 pm
take a deeper look. Many people bought into Frank and his tired old excuses about the admin and lack of success. We hired a guy from the scrap heap, Dave Roach, who had experience and was a yawner of a hire. All of a sudden we are now winning in virtually every sport. We got an AD who fixed Franks screw up with Pecora and did it the right way and hired a real coach. ANd won 17 games and played in a post season. Essentially he eviscerated all of the old lame ass excuses for not winning across the board.

I think if you brought in a real , qualified fund raising VP for athletics, we would see a monumental turnaround, very quickly. Similar to the success under Dave Roach after Frank was removed as the AD.

We are in an era of consistent success in Forhdam athletics across the board. Most since Dave Roach was hired. Instead of building upon it and taking the next step, the BOT and FOF want us to take 100 steps back and forever honor the prior AD who was famous for unprecedented failure for 25 years.

That's exactly the way I see it. It's like trying to lift the Titanic from the bottom of the ocean. Eventually, a new cast will replace the present one and with any luck things will turn around.

Looks like eastern Europe and Turkey for rest of this years recruits.  Not much left in US.

Don't forget sunny Italy.

Is tomorrow the last day for Spring signings?
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham’s Joseph Chartouny to Declare for NBA Draft on: May 16, 2017, 09:48:53 am
Could be he lands on their Development Team.
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: May 12, 2017, 01:08:27 am
There will not be any naming of the RHG for any  " McGlaughlin," rest assured.  It's possible, if enough investors contribute, that the RHG will be named after one or more "McLaughlins".  Wink

Good news coming soon.

So far, no news has been good news.
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: May 02, 2017, 05:41:47 am
I'm guessing that AA is smart enough to know that there's no upside to bad-mouthing your former school...

You're right.  If he likely reads this Board, he sees that there already are enough Fordham bashers.
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: May 01, 2017, 08:05:15 am
Anytime you're going from a sub-.500 mid-major program to a program like UConn, even if they're rebuilding, the grass is much, much greener.  To think otherwise is not dealing in reality v

And you might even find most of the fans there are rooting for their team  Wink
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: April 30, 2017, 06:31:35 am
International it will be if national doesn't pan out.  Best would be combo of the two.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 25, 2017, 11:47:01 am
Since he has been here he has signed 9 players.  Hardnett, Smith, Slanina, Havsa, Taveras, Hawkins, Pekarek, Ohams, Hicks. And to an extent 10, since he had to essentially go up to Canada and re-recruit Chartouny. The only 2 he has not retained left due to a stated desire to go back closer to home, and inability to acclimate to living in NYC.

He has his own strategy for recruiting. The prior coach swung for the home run every year, hit 2 or 3 but struck out with most of his other recruits. JN is recruiting across the board, good all around ball players. Let's see who he signs before declaring this a failure. His track record is not as bad as being portrayed here with recruiting. He is more of a lunch pail guy, like Nick in his heyday.

Agreed. Now if you looking for a real long shot to go full circle and drive everyone crazy, Nick Macarchuk IV, Nick's 6'-6" grandson is post-graduating from playing at St. Thomas More Prep.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 25, 2017, 10:48:59 am
I do think that JN is a very good coach... as to the recruiting aspect?Huh?  Just for the record, I was one of the very first posters who questioned DW's "coaching" ability and I was never a Coach Pecora supporter....

In fairness to DW, he did say publicly several times that basketball is a 'reaction" game in answer to why, on timeouts, he didn't spent the full amount of time coaching the players in the huddle and sending them out on the court to await the players on the opposing team who were getting lengthier instructions from their coach.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 25, 2017, 10:42:12 am
At this late hour, the most important information we can get, short of an announced commitment,  is what players have visited FU's Campus, and which of those players have spent some time recently with the FU Admissions Department
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 22, 2017, 10:50:31 am
You are better than this. Same goes for Richie68.  You are too smart to fall into this garbage narrative of every player that  signs elsewhere is disappointing news.  It's not it's called reality: guys sign elsewhere it happens.

I am disappointed in the weather as it sucks to play golf in. Now that is disappointing.

You're right. I should have put a  Wink at the end.  As to the weather, April is in many ways the cruelest month. Both for golf and I expect for the Rams recruiting, May should be much more pleasant.
21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 22, 2017, 09:45:32 am
Bronx native and USF transfer Luis Santos commits to St. Louis.

[OOPS...SORRY...DIDN'T SEE THE EARLIER POST(S)...]

Not to worry.  Disappointing news is always the order of the day here.
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 21, 2017, 07:49:24 am
Second that request, It's informative to find out which of our players are transferring or signing up for the draft, and other schools getting commitments from good players, but it would be gratifying that just once this year we hear of a player committing to Fordham, who can help us next season.
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 19, 2017, 12:15:09 pm
At FU when meeting alums, AA handled himself very well and was a pleasure to speak with about the game. His play on the court was all out and he provided some memorable last second winning shots. He was on campus 4 years and he will graduate next month.  If he had decided to go "Pro" next year in the US or Europe, most of us would rightly cheer him on as an FU guy who made good. We don't know the factors that led him to UCONN, but it doesn't really matter, he was free to make that decision. If 3 or 4 solid recruits for the Rams had been announced by now, it's hard to see that we would be spending so much time on this thread.
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: 2017-18 Out Of Conference Schedule on: April 19, 2017, 07:38:06 am
I am actually very curious as to what our OOC schedule looks like . I heard that , although the A-10 cannot have a say in it , they expressed their displeasure with  last season's line-up. Hard to believe we were 5-7. Can't wait for another showdown with Lipscomb.

when and how did the A-10 express displeasure with our A-10 schedule?
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Alessandro Acquaviva - Retiring from Italian Basketball on: April 18, 2017, 05:16:09 pm
I don't know if that was a Google translation from Alessandro's original Italian but the genuine sentiment comes through, even though the Google translations and similar ones frequently look like they are written by the same people who wrtte Chinese take-out menus in NYC.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 18, 2017, 03:54:22 pm
It's understandable that without a lick of hard news of who FU has recruited for next year, there's plenty of concern by the hard core of remaining Ram fans. Almost certainly there will be new recruits, at least 3, maybe more. The extent of the mix of players between those from other countries and US players will be interesting and tell us something about the Rams recruiting ability.
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 18, 2017, 09:33:53 am
It seems there is a fair amount of cognitive dissonance going on here

AA is good enough that if he stayed and played for us and we got a couple of pieces, we could contend for post season basketball next year
versus
UConn  is going to be bad, and he won't play anyway because its UConn and he is not good enough, but they are going to be bad

He is good for the A10 but not the AAC
versus
The A10 and AAC are pretty much equal

He is a one year transfer and they need pieces because of unexpected departures, and they won't do anything for his game, because he is just filling a seat on the bench
versus
What exactly are we going to be doing next year with transfers?

Our coach can coach players up, but
Their coach can't or won't, because why would you want your players to get better?

I could go on.

James Joyce could not have said it any better than that Wink
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 17, 2017, 02:21:33 pm
In the past, FU usually waited until the end of the recruiting period to announce whatever recruits they were able to come up with.  Information moves much quicker today, and even though there's not been any attempt to keep FU's dwindling fan base informed, it makes sense to start getting information out to the base as soon as possible.

...If there is any information to report.
29  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 17, 2017, 09:32:22 am
AA was at Fordham for 4 years.  He earned his ticket to try something else. No matter where he goes from here after UCONN, he'll always be a FU grad.
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: April 15, 2017, 07:33:53 pm
Good for AA. Antwoine gave us some really enjoyable plays while he was at FU.  Between Eric P., CS and AA going to very good teams, in a back hand way, it reflects some good light on the program which unfortunately won't be notice by anyone except real college BB junkies.
