1  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 25, 2017, 11:47:01 am
Since he has been here he has signed 9 players.  Hardnett, Smith, Slanina, Havsa, Taveras, Hawkins, Pekarek, Ohams, Hicks. And to an extent 10, since he had to essentially go up to Canada and re-recruit Chartouny. The only 2 he has not retained left due to a stated desire to go back closer to home, and inability to acclimate to living in NYC.

He has his own strategy for recruiting. The prior coach swung for the home run every year, hit 2 or 3 but struck out with most of his other recruits. JN is recruiting across the board, good all around ball players. Let's see who he signs before declaring this a failure. His track record is not as bad as being portrayed here with recruiting. He is more of a lunch pail guy, like Nick in his heyday.

Agreed. Now if you looking for a real long shot to go full circle and drive everyone crazy, Nick Macarchuk IV, Nick's 6'-6" grandson is post-graduating from playing at St. Thomas More Prep.

I do think that JN is a very good coach... as to the recruiting aspect?Huh?  Just for the record, I was one of the very first posters who questioned DW's "coaching" ability and I was never a Coach Pecora supporter....

In fairness to DW, he did say publicly several times that basketball is a 'reaction" game in answer to why, on timeouts, he didn't spent the full amount of time coaching the players in the huddle and sending them out on the court to await the players on the opposing team who were getting lengthier instructions from their coach.
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 25, 2017, 10:42:12 am
At this late hour, the most important information we can get, short of an announced commitment,  is what players have visited FU's Campus, and which of those players have spent some time recently with the FU Admissions Department
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 22, 2017, 10:50:31 am
You are better than this. Same goes for Richie68.  You are too smart to fall into this garbage narrative of every player that  signs elsewhere is disappointing news.  It's not it's called reality: guys sign elsewhere it happens.

I am disappointed in the weather as it sucks to play golf in. Now that is disappointing.

You're right. I should have put a  Wink at the end.  As to the weather, April is in many ways the cruelest month. Both for golf and I expect for the Rams recruiting, May should be much more pleasant.

Bronx native and USF transfer Luis Santos commits to St. Louis.

[OOPS...SORRY...DIDN'T SEE THE EARLIER POST(S)...]

Not to worry.  Disappointing news is always the order of the day here.
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 21, 2017, 07:49:24 am
Second that request, It's informative to find out which of our players are transferring or signing up for the draft, and other schools getting commitments from good players, but it would be gratifying that just once this year we hear of a player committing to Fordham, who can help us next season.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 19, 2017, 12:15:09 pm
At FU when meeting alums, AA handled himself very well and was a pleasure to speak with about the game. His play on the court was all out and he provided some memorable last second winning shots. He was on campus 4 years and he will graduate next month.  If he had decided to go "Pro" next year in the US or Europe, most of us would rightly cheer him on as an FU guy who made good. We don't know the factors that led him to UCONN, but it doesn't really matter, he was free to make that decision. If 3 or 4 solid recruits for the Rams had been announced by now, it's hard to see that we would be spending so much time on this thread.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: 2017-18 Out Of Conference Schedule on: April 19, 2017, 07:38:06 am
I am actually very curious as to what our OOC schedule looks like . I heard that , although the A-10 cannot have a say in it , they expressed their displeasure with  last season's line-up. Hard to believe we were 5-7. Can't wait for another showdown with Lipscomb.

when and how did the A-10 express displeasure with our A-10 schedule?
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Alessandro Acquaviva - Retiring from Italian Basketball on: April 18, 2017, 05:16:09 pm
I don't know if that was a Google translation from Alessandro's original Italian but the genuine sentiment comes through, even though the Google translations and similar ones frequently look like they are written by the same people who wrtte Chinese take-out menus in NYC.
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: April 18, 2017, 03:54:22 pm
It's understandable that without a lick of hard news of who FU has recruited for next year, there's plenty of concern by the hard core of remaining Ram fans. Almost certainly there will be new recruits, at least 3, maybe more. The extent of the mix of players between those from other countries and US players will be interesting and tell us something about the Rams recruiting ability.
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 18, 2017, 09:33:53 am
It seems there is a fair amount of cognitive dissonance going on here

AA is good enough that if he stayed and played for us and we got a couple of pieces, we could contend for post season basketball next year
versus
UConn  is going to be bad, and he won't play anyway because its UConn and he is not good enough, but they are going to be bad

He is good for the A10 but not the AAC
versus
The A10 and AAC are pretty much equal

He is a one year transfer and they need pieces because of unexpected departures, and they won't do anything for his game, because he is just filling a seat on the bench
versus
What exactly are we going to be doing next year with transfers?

Our coach can coach players up, but
Their coach can't or won't, because why would you want your players to get better?

I could go on.

James Joyce could not have said it any better than that Wink
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 17, 2017, 02:21:33 pm
In the past, FU usually waited until the end of the recruiting period to announce whatever recruits they were able to come up with.  Information moves much quicker today, and even though there's not been any attempt to keep FU's dwindling fan base informed, it makes sense to start getting information out to the base as soon as possible.

...If there is any information to report.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 17, 2017, 09:32:22 am
AA was at Fordham for 4 years.  He earned his ticket to try something else. No matter where he goes from here after UCONN, he'll always be a FU grad.
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: April 15, 2017, 07:33:53 pm
Good for AA. Antwoine gave us some really enjoyable plays while he was at FU.  Between Eric P., CS and AA going to very good teams, in a back hand way, it reflects some good light on the program which unfortunately won't be notice by anyone except real college BB junkies.
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Sengfelder to Boise st on: April 15, 2017, 06:12:27 pm
I think most of us, if we graduated FU with a year of basketball eligibility left, would try their luck at another school. You'd already have everything FU BB could give you. The grad year is a bonus which gives you even more contacts and benefits.
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Sengfelder to Boise st on: April 13, 2017, 08:16:37 pm
CS played major minutes in every game while he was at FU. He was very personable and friendly. He seemed to give his all every time.  For whatever reasons he had, he wanted to make a change after graduation. Best wishes to him.  And best wishes that the Rams can come up with a suitable replacement, which we know is a big unknown for our always challenged program.
When did the program last get a lucky break?  Even the Cubs and Red Sox have had their day.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Sengfelder to Boise st on: April 13, 2017, 01:06:15 pm
Unless there's a specialty graduate program, the move doesn't seem to make sense academically because it not a week-known school, nor does it give him any exposure for his continuing basketball career.
The hiking and fishing in the rugged Salmon River area of the state is worth thr trip .
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Coach Hurley on: April 06, 2017, 10:22:10 pm
Its not that simple. The decision is made by the NJ Catholic Diocese and it takes into consideration a lot more than you are making it. If attendance has dwindled as it has then it cannot be sustained. Same thing happened years ago to iconic schools such as Power Memorial in NYC.

Power Memorial's I. Christian Brothers sold their site on West 61st Street in a rising Upper West Side real estate market to use the proceeds to build a school for underprivileged children in South Florida. It was pretty much a mainstream Christian initiative to take real estate that had increased in value to benefit the less fortunate.

LXRF - Thanks for the PM. We are on the same page re: conference fit/Obrzut contribution.

Lets do lunch again soon...Perhaps after we have an actual roster to discuss.  Wink

I'm looking forward to both events which is likely to happen after the middle of May.

As were the frantic days of recruiting at the end of the Hill regime.

We could've used that 1.5 ppg production   Sad
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Should Fordham Deny Releases for Transfers? on: April 03, 2017, 10:41:56 am
Short answer to the question possed: "For many good reasons, you can't."
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 03, 2017, 10:40:27 am
If subject to an analysis any potential recruit, there's no reason for them to sslect Fordham, until they select Fordham.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where have they really gone? on: April 03, 2017, 10:38:21 am
I don't believe LO ever donned the Maroon jersey, and he eventually had an event less BB career in the US. .
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: April 01, 2017, 02:16:14 pm
Potential "Good News"- Heard that Ivan (the Moldovian Monster) Kvetchovich, is seriously considering Fordham University.  Ivan, standing 6ft 9and 1/4 inches tall and weighing a listed 255 lbs, graduated from Chisinau Technical School in February.  He played in the Dniester River League where he was the leading scorer averaging 23.7 ppg and almost 15 rebounds per game. Understand he is very mobile and has an extremely deceptive second step and quick hands. Some may recall, his older cousin, Boris (Pinky) Menchnovich (aka the Bessarabian Bomber) who almost came to Fordham during the Bad Coach's era but his application papers were lost.  Ivan, was quoted by local media, that he truly wanted to play in the USA and he had heard many favorable things about the Hills of Roses in the Bronx.  He further stated that most Moldavians had heard about the world famous coach, Frank McLaughlin, and had studied his athletic leadership skills.  To be able to actually play on the Frank McLaughlin Basketball Court would be " a dream come very truly", said Ivan.  It is further understood that he has been offered a full ride at South Dakota Central University as well the Rhode Island School of Mines.  Further information to follow.

This information is probably as useful as most of the recruiting information that we heard. But now that we have a handful of spots to fill don't be surprised if they're filled  with a combo of not so fast European Bigs and speedyAmerican athletes.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Antwoine Anderson leaving? on: March 30, 2017, 07:48:08 pm
My remark above was not aimed at the original post in this thread which was just supplying information to this Board.
29  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Antwoine Anderson leaving? on: March 30, 2017, 07:40:58 pm
Its amazing how many people come on the Board to announce with breathless voice that a player is leaving. It's probably good to give them release from their full time jobs of hacking into orphans bank accounts, but its sad to see their illogical call for the Rams to move out of the A-10, so lame that you can almost emphatize with their lonely state.
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham’s Joseph Chartouny to Declare for NBA Draft on: March 30, 2017, 04:05:48 pm
Back in the day, Moses Malone was rumored heading to Fordham.

That was somone's idea of a joke, at the time, that turned iinto a rumor.
