98ramgrad,

Thanks for these memories. Your dad was quite a man and many of us have fond memories of him. You were fortunate to have him and his good work is still resounding.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Best player hands down since football came back in 1964 in my opinion.

Agreed with the possible exception of Chase.

6' 8" F Donatas Kupsas from Long Island Lutheran HS, Class of 2018, will not sign early and will take official visits to Weber State and Hofstra this month. Fordham has offered him.
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Miami (OH) Pre-Game/Game Thread 11/10/17 at RHG on: November 10, 2017, 11:12:53 pm
Very poor game one from Chartouny and Evans. I don't expect that to be the norm at all.  This is the style we will play this year so those who don't approve should probably jump ship now.  Unfortunately we deviated from the style in that there were too many possessions the last 5 minutes, because we didn't use enough clock or committed bad turnovers (JC).  To be in the game at all shooting horribly from 3 was solely because most of the game we controlled tempo.  If we hit 35% from 3 we will win a lot.

Right on the money. Let's move on. It's a long season.

That would be a find!

Headline: "Fordham Signs First Martian Point Guard!"

+1. As long as they're good, they can come from Mars as far as I'm concerned.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Exhibition Game Fredonia 11/3 on: November 09, 2017, 02:59:44 pm
Only Fredonia, so what.  Appears Rams on turnaround trip. Hope a good season and victory at SJU,  Re players lost to other programs, a few comments on EP.  He received some rough handling here when he left but the kid that emerged at NOVA was a pleasure.  Last year because of the very thin roster, he had to play lots of minutes at the 5.  Never complained, got banged around by BE bigs but performed admirably.  He's grown a bit and looks a lot more athletic since I first saw him in a scrimmage his red shirt year.  Lots of reasons a kid transfers, but that doesn't make him bad.

We wish him well. Everyone has moved on, Nova.

Nick Honor Has Signed his NLI

Good signing for us.
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Exhibition Game Fredonia 11/3 on: November 03, 2017, 11:01:10 pm
2/3 of our shots were 3's.  Not a good habit to get into.

Box Score:  http://fordhamsports.com/boxscore.aspx?path=mbball&id=7668

Tx, the thing is, we have 8 key players that can hit the three and it's a central focus of Coach Neu's offense. Don't think we'll see anything different during the season.
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Exhibition Game Fredonia 11/3 on: November 03, 2017, 10:09:42 pm
Some takeaways from tonight's exhibition:

Tre Evans - will be our leading scorer this season. A talented combo guard who can shoot it, take it to the hoop, pass and rebound. He is a better player than Anderson now and will get better.

Will Tavares - is in top condition, is jumping out of the building but is relaxed and in control at all times. He was all over the court with seven rebounds, hit some threes and had some good driving scores. Looks focused and motivated and will have a big year.

Joseph Chartouny - was his usual steady, reliable self. Let's the game come to him. Hit some threes. Very much a team player. To use a sports cliche - he's a glue guy. Glad we have him and he's enjoying being a Ram.

Chuba Ohams - is stronger and faster than last year, has obviously taken the off-season conditioning program seriously. Is coming into his own, will block shots and defend on and off the ball.  Don't force it on offense, let the points come in the flow. Has to start.

Perris Hicks - he looked good and plays the point or off the ball equally well. Tough, hustling defender that showed a nice shooting touch. Good find by Ali Ton.

Ivan Raut - Following up on my prediction last week that he will be an important contributor for us, he another steal for Ali Ton. Heady player who does everything well, is athletic and is a very good shooter. Also a tough defender. Still adjusting to the American college game and will only get better. Keeper.

Prokop Slanina - looks bigger and stronger and is healthy. He has a knack for blocking shots - times it well and is crafty with that. Steady, smart, will be key for us again. He has a good shooting touch but needs work on his shooting mechanics - he pushes his shot and loses some control of it. Is Ernie Hobbie in the house?

Ege Havsa - this is an interesting player. Slick passer who can shoot. Looks a bit stronger and faster than last season.

David Pekarek, Jesse Bunting and Nemanja did not suit up. Pekarek should be back next week, don't know about Bunting's shoulder injury. Nem is TBD.

The net-net: we are deeper and have more talent than last year. What's notable is we are more athletic and have more shooters, which in the A-10 is critical. Lots of good athletes and shooters/scorers in this league. Coach Neu was trying different combinations including going big using Chuba and Prokop on the floor at the same time. We played our usual suffocating defense but the competition was light, so hard to gauge that. I think this team will surprise if we can stay healthy. We are on the upswing and I think Coach Neubauer and his staff are doing a good job.

What concerns me , yet again, is too many injuries so early. I have heard that Pekarek has a concussion, Hicks might have a hammy strain, Bunting has a shoulder issue, nobody seems to know if Zarko is good to go......we are playing with 2 guys sitting out a year....so we are short to begin wtih.....this is perhaps a major concern or just normal training camp nicks?  Last year's season got off terribly, we need to be ready to go this year....given the propensity to foul from our front court, we literally cant afford to play with 9 guys....

Pekarak should be back next week from the concussion. He'll be fine. So far it appears that he has recovered from his hip and groin surgery, which is no small thing. Those types of injuries can be tricky.

Don't think Hicks has a serious problem either.

Will Tavares. Hands down.

I like being in the A10. We are lucky to be here.

I couldn't agree more.

That would be a great, unexpected (at least from this outsider's standpoint) bonus for the program...

No question. Looking forward to the season.

Biggest surprise from the Florida International scrimmage? Ivan Raut was in the starting five and had 12 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds. Will be a key contributor this season.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Season Predictions 2017-2018 on: October 31, 2017, 04:05:17 pm
If it was mentioned before, I missed it.  Who's banged up?

David Pekárek suffered a concussion on Saturday, the day before the scrimmage. He's recovering.

Meaning what?

At some point clarity is valued . . .

A trip to NYC and I believe they have another scrimmage.
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Scrimmage 10/29? on: October 24, 2017, 10:05:29 pm
So FIU is traveling 1400 miles to play a closed scrimmage in RHG?  Shocked

That and more.

I'm providing a translation in quotation marks as a joke, as your commentary consistently contains grandest of generalizations / captain obvious notions.

You hold a special way of consistently saying nothing. This was just one example. i.e. "A scholarship player factors into scholarship allocation," yes - quite a concept. On the recruiting front, you struggle to decipher basic basketball knowledge, but are always quick to rave about potential with bold language of a player's speed and strength. Better to stay away from the tendency to insert pretend knowledge altogether. I will say, when you provide a link to a story and refrain from inserting any commentary, you don't fall into that rabbit hole. Something to consider.

You and your posts speak for themselves. I'll leave it at that. Posters here know what I mean by that.

Another good interview from Brenton. It's good to hear that Perris is healthy and eager to play great D.  When Perris signed we heard good things from his Mom here and he sounds like he has her good vibes. Best wishes to Perris for the coming season!

Yes, Brenton gets better with each interview. Could be time to get over to FUV after the season to get some extra pre-career reps.

Unsurprisingly. their pick to finish first is Rhode Island, with Dayton and VCU taking a step back:

People are constantly asking about who we have signed over the next 4 years and when people are falling off. Its a good point to make.

Thanks, 07. Always a voice of reason.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham New team podcast on: October 24, 2017, 10:50:29 am
you're absolutely right. Then again, consider what you're reading:

"He's a scholarship player so factor that into scholarship allocation. Really? no sh*t... "He's tough, from tough, so he'll be tough"

Empty, as per usual.

That's not at all what I posted. Significant misquoting even further damages your credibility.
29  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Scrimmage 10/29? on: October 23, 2017, 11:08:56 pm
Is this a closed scrimmage? They normally are, but this year a lot of schools are playing charity games for the hurricanes.

It's a closed scrimmage.
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Scrimmage 10/29? on: October 23, 2017, 10:07:56 pm
I was told that there is a scrimmage on 10/29. But the name I heard was FIU and that does not seem to make sense. Maybe my source was wrong? Does anyone have information?

FIU.
