Why do you need tailgating on EP?  It's the center of campus and one of the last open parcels at Rose Hill.  You keep telling us what big-time programs do.  What programs bring cars onto the cAmpus quad for tailgating?  Help us here...

Of all the things Fordham needs to do to upgrade football and athltics in general, this is about #127.

Actually one of the biggest of the bigs kind of does that.  Alabama has a postage size parking lot for a 100,000 seat arena.  Tuscaloosa is an open campus with unfettered drive through ability.  People are encouraged to park on lawns &  open space however the main Quad is reserved for homecoming type tents vendors etc.  Had a friend who had season tickets.  If you weren't tailgating and wanted to leave right after the game, your option was to park over a mile away and hoof it to and from the stadium.

5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Tailgating Regulations issued on: November 09, 2017, 08:07:51 am
Those rules were issued in part due to a conversation I had with the AD.  There was much confusion as to what was allowed and what was not.  As I wrote earlier in another thread, the rules are necessary due to the misbehavior of a few.  Sad but true, that is why we have to take off our shoes when boarding a plane.  Good thing the terrorist did not try to bring a pants bomb on board. IMO, nothing FU does is acceptable to you.  Were they to give out $20 bills to all attending a game you would complain they did not give out fifties.

9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Homecoming - Fordham vs. Holy Cross University on: November 03, 2017, 05:06:22 pm
Well, one thing about Homecoming this year, Fordham has totally lucked out on the weather. The forecast says mid-50's with sun and no rain. Perfect. When I first saw the schedule I thought "Homecoming seems late this year."  It could just as easily be sleeting tomorrow.

That being said, I can see where it would be nice to be outside and tailgate and the tent be another option. As I said before, the tent is good, but it does have some downsides. A little crowded, a little noisy, but overall a great atmosphere.

Frankly I think the prohibition about the tailgate has more to do with lack of some resources (adequate parking, additional security)  and that nagging thing in the back of the Fordham administrative mentality that sees itself as the most important entity rather than the students and the alumni.
when the change was made for homecoming. Had a great contact in the administration. The change was made due to behavior. Drunks, pass outs, attempted bonfires. Worst of aa, a recent coed alumna went missing, campus wide search found her out cold in her old room. I enjoyed more the old way but the change was necessary

Gaitley was mentioned here at the time. i believe he is a walk on at Richmond.  Would he get a free ride at Fordham due to his mom being a contract employee?  Big nut to pay at Richmond!  BTW, nobody cares.

[/quote Would have gotten free tuition not board

I know of a student who does need a service dog to get him through the anxiety of school, even takes the dog to classes.  Of course, he's a recently returned war vet who suffers from severe PTSD.
You know very well or should know that my reference was not directed at vets or others with real problems but rather the snowflakes some present day students are.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Homecoming - Fordham vs. Holy Cross University on: October 25, 2017, 11:47:38 am
At one point Fordham had the reputation of pumping out blue collar students... people that were smart, but also worked their butts off and ultimately became very successful at their craft.

I prefer that Fordham to the impressive on paper kids we see now.
The former did not need service dogs to get them through the "anxiety" of exams.

85/Lurker, I don't think that we attended the same university. The Fordham that I recall was a marginally adequate commuter school that was a slightly better alternative to Hofstra and Fairleigh Dickinson. I do recall a lot of residential students having some misconceived and delusional notion that the place had an Ivy-type reputation. I'm guessing you two were residents who bought into that BS.

When I attended CBA Fordham was primarily a commuter school.  Do not recall anyone suggesting we were a pseudo Ivy, however, some did consider ourselves a step up from St. John's & Manhattan.  Not a high bar.  Some in FC considered themselves a cut above the rest of us. They received a jolt when my classmate Mario Gabelli got elected as head of the Student Council, or whatever it was called. First ever non FC to achieve that position.

what percent chance do you think a HC change is made after the season?    when this poll 1st came out ,  I voted for wait till after season and then consider how it played out..   I thought we would string together some W's and make a run in the PL.   Clearly that's not the case and were headed for a ~ 2-9 season.    Fordham usually doesn't make quick decisive coaching decisions.    but I'm moving over to the camp a change is necessary.   is it a 90% chance AB gets let go ..  or you guys think its more 50/50 range?
Strictly a feeling but I suggest closer to the 90 percentile than the 50.  Who would have thought Holy Cross would fire the coach mid-season, assuming the dismissal was for poor performance.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Should Coach Breiner be on the "Hot Seat" on: October 16, 2017, 09:28:34 am
no, it doesn't but when Clawson and Moorhead left they both pressured the administration into elevating one of their assistants.  Clawson publicly endorsed Foley at the meet the recruits night which occurred the week he announced that he was leaving.  The late Richie Marin then endorsed hiring Foley and essentially threw the weight of the Gridiron club behind Foley.  Moorhead endorsed Breiner but not in the same way as Clawson and in both cases, the players pushed for the assistant to be promoted.  Both were bad decisions but let's not ignore the pressure that Fordham was under.  I'm sure everyone on this board thinks that they could have stood up to that pressure but don't kid yourself.  When a highly successful coach endorses a successor and the booster club is behind it and the players want it, it would take an unusually strong and bold AD to reject that candidate and hire someone else.
Very true.

Unfortunately,  I agree.

the HS game had a marching band and painted / end-zones (which by the way) the soccer team also uses for games  (lines in yellow)..  it looked good and  is certainly doable @ Coffey Field.    These are 2 more fairly simple things we should do @ Fordham.
Talk about changing the deck chairs on the Titanic. Get real.

Not that many years ago, a wealthy Alum, possibly Mr. Walsh of our library fame , authorized a matching fund up to, I believe, $250,00.  He matched all contributions and $500,000 was raised for football. As I recall, he also gave a tidy sum for football when he donated to the library. Seems he played fball on our freshman team under Lombardi who took him aside at season end and told him John you are going to be a success but not in fball.

Not to worry, even if we get destroyed Coach can resend this week's E-mail saying in part that our main goal, a PAT championship, is still in reach. The main goal should be putting a competitive team on the field.

The coach has been in charge for 1 1/4 seasons. We have gone from imo semi-elite to semi-horrible. Is it all coach's fault, no. Is he to blame for much of it, yes. The defense is non existent, special teams awful  if I was the AD, I would be looking up that search firm I used for bbal
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ CCSU on: September 13, 2017, 02:28:12 pm
FWIW, it would b great to hear words to that effect from the coach's post game remarks.
If you are referring to the e-mail we received earlier this week, I agree 100%.  Replied in a respectful fashion but cited our non-show at Army and falling behind by 17 v CCSU.  Almost, but didn't, take exception to him lauding the team effort coming back from a 17 point deficit.  The "team" are the ones who got us into the deficit in the first place with some help from the coaches.  Hope I am wrong but Saturday could be very ugly.
