No, he's not, and he showed that last season by making some adjustments. Still, Year 3, and I'm sure he's hoping that he's recruited the kind of players he needs to run his system.

I'm hoping so too.  Last year had some highlight wins but also some losses that should not have happened.  Overall, it was a disappointment from the previous year.
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Tulane (Montego Bay) - 11/19/17 on: November 20, 2017, 12:59:12 pm
The system is working fine. We forced a ton of TO's and got more shots then the other team. You simply cannot win in college basketball if you can't hit 3's at a somewhat consistent rate. Our 3 L's were almost historically bad shooting performances. If we are even average as many have said then we are 3-1 instead of 1-3.

This really comes down to one thing. Is the bad shooting for real or just a few bad games. Last year we started similarly on offense and got better. Let's hope this happens again. I think it is a fair point to mention that Evans, Hicks, and Raut all are new to this level of basketball so they should get some time to adjust and get comfortable. It was the performance of JC, Havsa, and Chuba that have killed us early on. They are more seasoned and obviously need to get better. JC just needs to reset. Take a blow this week and have a big game against the Jaspers.

I agree that the system seems to be fine for the defense but it seems questionable for the offense right now.  Is it possible to make adjustments to compensate for the offense without harming the defense?
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Tulane (Montego Bay) - 11/19/17 on: November 20, 2017, 12:10:23 pm
I think its debatable right now.  I dont think these guys are necessary not capable of scoring.  I think they are not capable within this system, at least right now.  So let's see if JN can modify the system or wait it out for these guys to start hitting jumpers. Hopefully one of those things happens soon!

I hope JN is not as stubborn regarding his system as someone else we all knew and loved.   Undecided
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: The season so far, by the numbers on: November 20, 2017, 12:08:25 pm
This team lacks talent.  We really need a good PG. The offense scheme seems to be to pass the ball around the perimeter like a hot potato.  No one seems to be able to create their shot. Movement is slow and predictable. Raut is our best shooter but he spends most of his time standing in 1 spot and he is easy to defend. The announcer kept saying that FU really has to try driving to the basket. That's on JN. Sometimes I think he is so focused on D he does not care what happens on O.

Some of your complaints seem familiar...  Roll Eyes

I forgot the game was tonight until I saw this thread.  Started streaming at the beginning of overtime.  What a pleasant surprise!
Congratulations, Soccer Rams!

Ok, guys, but what does that really have to do with anything?

The conversation went off topic with Gaitley's son and continued from there.  I added the response about Richmond because that exchange program is what Gaitley may be taking advantage of.  This topic often goes off into the weeds.  I am at fault too. I reply many times to a post without taking into consideration what the thread topic is.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 10:55:52 pm
By the way...University of Richmond also participates in the program.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: November 01, 2017, 10:19:11 pm
I have never heard of us having a reciprocal program with anyone other than the other Jesuit schools.

There is a tuition exchange program that Fordham does participate in.  It is basically made up of private colleges and universities:

9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Division III on: October 18, 2017, 09:41:14 pm
I think Fordham needs to win a few games in the PL before thinking about any changes of conference

I only said that they should leave the PL if the idiotic proposal supposedly floating around regarding D3 school(s) moving up to D1 and getting a PL subsidy sees the light of day - which I highly doubt it will.  No way in hell should Fordham or any other school be paying for that.
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Division III on: October 18, 2017, 07:16:59 pm
If I were a betting man and I'm not, to me the likes of Carnegie Mellon, Williams, Bowdoin or something like a Wittenberg is likely being considered.

I don't see any of these schools moving up to D-1.  And if one (or more) did make the move and entered the Patriot League with a subsidy from the league schools, Fordham should find another league - NEC, CAA, whatever...

The personal criticism of AB has been over the top.  Criticize his strategies, recruitment or other aspects of his football credentials, not him personally.
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Should Coach Breiner be on the "Hot Seat" on: October 15, 2017, 11:54:59 am
Exactly why you need to hire a coordinator from a 1A program. Snag a few transfers from their program, then a few more for players he was recruiting the past few years who are looking to transfer and we get back...

Yes, isn't this what happened when we hired JM?  Mike Nebrich followed JM from UConn and had a standout career.  Hopefully something similar can happen.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Patriot league is now the worst fcs conf in the country on: October 15, 2017, 11:42:21 am
If I'm on the Board of Trustees, a new football stadium isn't on my radar, nor is it likely to be in the foreseeable future. We presently have a field that seats 7,000, and we can't fill it even when we field a ranked team, nor for playoff games, nor for games with other ranked teams. A new football field with increased seating would be a completely unjustifiable waste of money, in my view. A new arena for basketball? Show me a revived program and sell out crowds, and I'll push hard for it. We seem to be on the right track now. One or two more good years will provide the necessary justification. Improved training facilities and team offices? Absolutely necessary now and I would push hard for them. As a Trustee, I have to prioritize the University's needs. Athletic facilities are important, but they are of secondary importance to to the school's primary mission. Only the most urgent needs ought to be funded.

Happily, I'm not on the Board, nor am I ever likely to be appointed.

I agree with your suggestions.  I think that the University has to build up its STEM reputation (actually, initiate one) first.  After that, the McGinley Center needs to be enlarged to accommodate a larger student center/fitness center space.  Athletics facilities should come after that when hopefully, the need will be there because of increased attendance.

We should have been better last year.  The Lehigh loss in particular was embarrassing...  I think Patriot League play will be telling.  If the wheels fall off, then he should be gone.  There is definitely potential for a Foley 2.0 here.
I was at that Lehigh game last year.  It was awful.
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ CCSU on: September 09, 2017, 03:22:12 pm
Down 17-0 and then 31-21, no Edmonds in rhe 2nd half, Brevard out early in that half, come back to win 38-31. Take it and move on. Lots of room for improvement.

If this was FB I would give this a "Like".   Wink
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: August 22, 2017, 02:58:47 pm
Exactly.  Turning your back to the court is asinine, don't donate to the project let he office know why and don't attend the ceremony.  Anything beyond that is being an ass.

You have that right!
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: August 22, 2017, 08:34:59 am
You could stand up and turn your back on Frank when they dedicate the "Family Court" or walk out and return after the game starts/resumes.

If I happen to be there for a game when the dedication takes place, I would just not attend the ceremony and go over to the bookstore (if they are opened) and maybe buy some stuff.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: July 21, 2017, 06:27:55 pm
I am not sure some of you understand this staff's mindset.  They do not care whether they get players locally internationally from midwest etc.  They do not consider going international to get players a recruiting failure.  They look at one thing: will this player help us.  They always thought that way and have been operating that way.  Better get used to it because the days Fordham basketball having a roster of local players or all American players are over.  They judge recruiting success on getting good players that will fit into a team concept and they could not care less about recruiting service ratings, internet lists or impressing any of us in the summer.

It only makes sense to me that they will recruit whoever they feel will help them the most no matter where they come from.  The goal is winning games (while retaining integrity).  Once the winning starts to happen consistently, recruiting should become easier including among locals.
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: July 15, 2017, 10:09:51 am
The women's team has five (5) foreign players on the roster. Foreign players, 5th year players, JUCOS, transfers, this is how it must be done these days..

Its better than the 11th hour Brennan Melvins of the world .....

Sure is!  +10

22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Conference Pairings Released on: June 07, 2017, 08:57:19 pm
Here is who we play during the conference season, bolded games are home and home.

Fordham

Home – George Mason, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, Davidson, Duquesne, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, VCU

Away – Dayton, George Washington, St. Bonaventure, Saint Louis, Davidson, Duquesne, La Salle, Saint Joseph's, VCU

Would prefer to see George Mason as a home and home as they are going to be down this year however getting them and UMASS at home is good news. I am tired of losing to Richmond would like to see that change this year now that Kline is gone.

At one time I thought we only did a home and home with three other teams.  Now it is five.  When did this change?  I guess I was not paying attention.
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 11:49:34 pm
I disagree. It's a recruiting update thread. If there is noting to report, it can live without new posts.

+10 !!!
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 15, 2017, 11:36:38 am
Yes it is a recruiting thread but if you look at the threads posted since the season ended over 50% of the posts are a Wish List and do not discuss players we actually may be following and recruiting. I for one want to see this thread get back on focus and if people want to mention players they see on the Internet or players that are transferring even if we have not shown interest then maybe we should start a new thread called "Wish List".

Great idea.

Different school, different conference, different part of the country, different experience. Expand your horizons, it's what education should do. Best of luck to him. Classy guy.

My sentiments exactly.  He's young and wants new experiences.  Good luck to him - hope he enjoys the new path he has set for himself.
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Coach Hurley on: April 07, 2017, 01:40:00 pm
I am more than fine with you posting it, and I think you picked the most logical place. Mostly I am just saying that I do not know if we have a perfect spot for it. What you posted was about a HS closing, so not sure it is truly sports talk, but I thought it was fine.

Yes, I was only posting it because Chris Gaston and Jio Fontan went there and some other talented players came through there who made it pretty big.  Also, many messages on this board have been devoted to the Hurleys so I thought people would be interested.  I saw it as more than just a high school closing since their basketball program was what made them famous.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Coach Hurley on: April 07, 2017, 11:28:53 am
That's a good point. The story was first posted in the Water Cooler, not sure it was in the right spot there either, ...

Just trying to understand the rules.  Should I have not posted this at all?  Or was Sports Talk (Water Cooler) not the right spot?  That seemed the most logical place.

How does he meet with admissions last year when he was still at Notre Dame?

If he said Ryan visited over the Christmas break or more recently than I would not question it.  But last June?  If he was truly interested in transferring and met with Admissions in June - why not transfer in September or January of this year?
