Different school, different conference, different part of the country, different experience. Expand your horizons, it's what education should do. Best of luck to him. Classy guy.

My sentiments exactly.  He's young and wants new experiences.  Good luck to him - hope he enjoys the new path he has set for himself.

I am more than fine with you posting it, and I think you picked the most logical place. Mostly I am just saying that I do not know if we have a perfect spot for it. What you posted was about a HS closing, so not sure it is truly sports talk, but I thought it was fine.

Yes, I was only posting it because Chris Gaston and Jio Fontan went there and some other talented players came through there who made it pretty big.  Also, many messages on this board have been devoted to the Hurleys so I thought people would be interested.  I saw it as more than just a high school closing since their basketball program was what made them famous.
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Coach Hurley on: April 07, 2017, 11:28:53 am
That's a good point. The story was first posted in the Water Cooler, not sure it was in the right spot there either, ...

Just trying to understand the rules.  Should I have not posted this at all?  Or was Sports Talk (Water Cooler) not the right spot?  That seemed the most logical place.

5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Matt Ryan notre Dame on: March 30, 2017, 03:19:54 pm
How does he meet with admissions last year when he was still at Notre Dame?

If he said Ryan visited over the Christmas break or more recently than I would not question it.  But last June?  If he was truly interested in transferring and met with Admissions in June - why not transfer in September or January of this year?
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Matt Ryan notre Dame on: March 30, 2017, 07:18:15 am
A native of Cortlandt Manor. N.Y., Ryan will sit out the 2017-18 seasons under NCAA transfer regulations. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Notre Dame soph Matt Ryan is leaving the team. Ryan is from Westchester county and went to Iona prep , never reached potential at ND but still a good player. Can't help next year but should take a hard run at him

Although I agree with others that he is a reach for Fordham, they need to make a strong effort to get him.  You don't know what may motivate him to choose Fordham.  He may like the idea of playing near home in front of family and friends.  He must see the opportunities to play a substantial role at Fordham with the recent defections of starters.  Also if he is looking at academics and school reputation - Fordham meets both requirements.  I hope it can happen but have strong doubts that our staff can pull it off.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Sengfelder to transfer on: March 25, 2017, 09:46:52 am
Oh, just so we don't come off as ungrateful, and because it's well-deserved, let me say "Thank you, Chris Sengfelder. You surprised us as a freshman, when you started filling up stat sheets, you had more A-10 Newcomer of the Week nods than any other player in school history, you scored 1000+ points as a Ram, you helped anchor our first winning and postseason team in years, and we'll miss you and your play."

Need someone to second that motion. It probably should be by acclamation.

Via Arturo in Roma?
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham George Mason Pre/In/Post Game Thread Thursday 6 pm NBCSN on: March 10, 2017, 05:20:46 am
a-10 winning percentages:

Macarchuk .156 in 4 years. Don't blame him.
Hill .172 in 4 years.
Whitt and Grasso .330 in 7 years.
Pecora .127 in 5 years
Neubauer .417 in 2 years.

.261 over 20 years pre Neubauer.  Even this year at .388 is much better than prior 20 years.  Disappointing, sure. But people seem wed to the facilities et al must come before any improvement and it ain't necessarily so. Ultimately, sure. I hate to tell you but even this season was one of Fordham's best in decades. And that's not just damning with faint praise or moral victories. The team is in much better shape than in years. the heartbreaking losses are part of the road.

Trust me. I will say I told you so.

Good chart to show where we had been and where we are now.  Agree about Macarchuk.  I think he got a raw deal from McLaughlin and Fordham.  First in dropping to the Patriot League and then no support in moving to the A10.  Although disappointed with a good share of the season there were some highlights such as the VCU and URI wins.  Hoping for next year.

Hard to watch.... up by 7 and under 1 minute and give up the lead.... and then the OT mess.  To be a Fordham fan must mean something but right now I don't exactly know what... do not know if AA and CS will choose to stay another year at Fordham...
recruits coming in?Huh?  Oh well... another March and Fordham goes nowhere... Wait till next year says the Fordham hopeful!!
 Evil

CS is a junior and AA is a red shirt junior.  Why do you imply that there is a chance they won't be back?
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Athletic Department Topics / Re: Ask The AD with David Roach on: March 09, 2017, 01:01:53 pm
I like how they sanitize things:

"Fordham University’s legendary Rose Hill Gymnasium—the oldest NCAA Division I basketball arena still in use— has been labeled many things, from a well-regarded rarity in the Atlantic 10, to one of basketball’s crown jewels."

Is "well-regarded rarity" a euphemism to an old relic that should be retired or for that matter a dump (to some)?
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham v. Richmond - 2/25, 2:30pm - NBCS Pre-Game/In-Game Thread on: February 26, 2017, 12:30:40 pm
PS - a little off the topic. $15 to park is a rip off! If not mistaken, the bookstore closed at 2PM. On game day???

Plus they only have 1 parking booth open which causes a backup all the way to Southern Blvd.  Then they don't allow parking in lot A for some reason so you spend another 15 minutes going in circles in the garage and then it takes another 20 minutes to buy a ticket.  It's comical how inefficient this school is at everything.  It hasn't changed in 40 years.  It's beyond frustrating.

It used to be worse when they charged 11.00 or 12.00 and then had to count singles to make change.  They should just make it $10.00 period.  $20.00 is a rip-off.  I could not make it yesterday but I would be ticked off if I could not go into the bookstore to see if there were items I might want to buy.  Typical Fordham.

About the game...it seems that Richmond has our number over the years.  There have been a couple games against them that I really thought Fordham would win.

My condolences to Joe  and the Chartouny family.

Bridget, I love you, but please, if you read this message, bury the hatchet with Txram. He has done more to promote the wonderful work, which you and your staff have done and the accomplishments of your team over the years. I wouldn't have a clue re: the overall progress of your program if it weren't for Txram. I love Softball and coached it for many years both in the USAF with adults and with my daughter's elementary school team. It's a wonderful sport and I hope to see it returned to the Olympics someday. You and Txram have the same goal…Fordham Softball Excellence…The two of you should have no trouble resolving whatever differences you may have. Who knows? You may become good friends. BTW, I've never met Txram, but he is one heckofa publicist for your team!
+10  Joe, well said.  Txram has been a big supporter of this team for many years.  I hope Bridget recognizes it.

NJIT will soon open its $102 million events center: http://www.njithighlanders.com/sports/2015/5/12/wellness_center.aspx?id=150

Yes, NJIT.

RB, Don't forget that NJIT is a public university.  I don't think they have to raise as much money through donations.  Us taxpayers here in Jersey will probably be footing a good portion of this bill.  But it looks like a really nice facility that's being built right in Newark.
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A-10 road wins by coach on: February 05, 2017, 10:40:39 am
# of total road wins in conference; A-10 wining pct; and # of seasons coaching league games (DW started a 7th season but was fired before the A-10 scheduled started in his last season

Nick -- 1; .031 (4 years)
Hill -- 5; .156 (4 years; 3 in yr 1)
DW -- 14; .292 (6 A-10 seasons)
Grasso -- 0; .000 (1 year)
Pecora -- 1; .024 (5 years)
JN -- 6 ;.429(1.5 years)

It's a low bar but Neubauer has already won more road games in the A-10 than another coach except for DW and he's not even completed his 2nd season in the league plus his road winning percentage is almost percentage points higher than DW's.  Still early in his tenure here but impressive.

Wow!  That Pecora stat stands out like a sore thumb.  And people still wanted to give him a chance.  Geesh...

It would be nice if Fordham promoted this game using video of both of Antoine's game winners this year.  Use the slogan "What Will Twan Do Next? Come Find Out Wednesday at 7 pm".

Rich,   Have you thought of going into marketing and taking a position in Fordham's athletic department?  They desperately need the help.   Wink
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: RHG renovations on: February 02, 2017, 10:48:15 am
This whole naming of the RHG floor reminds me of Time's Person of the Year award.  It is awarded not for the great things the awardee has done but rather the degree of impact that the awardee made whether positive or negative.  In this case, it is a rather negative impact over a 30 year period during Frank's tenure as AD.  He's the winner hands down.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: RHG renovations on: February 01, 2017, 06:25:52 pm
Sarcasm aside, let me try to sum this up because it is so mind boggling it is difficult to process.

You have a guy who was AD for a little over 25 years and made perhaps the worst decision in Fordham athletics history. We still havent recovered.

Despite poor results  over a very long period of time, he was paid a handsome salary and his kids went to school for free.

After being deposed as AD, a fund raising position was created for him.

Despite being on payroll to fund raise, he is naming the court after himself and his family?

How exactly is Frank's family involved in this initiative?  Isnt Frank currently a salaried employee, in charge of doing this?

Seriously, do I have this right? Am I missing some fact or do I have some facts incorrect that would give rise to the Brendan Byrne-esque  project?

Frank must have some pictures of people.

Yeah, I was surprised too going from UCONN to Lafayette.

I'd like to think we could beat out URI and most other schools on that list. UPenn and Cornell are tough if he's thinking Ivy Leagues. Rutgers, Cuse and Buffalo if he's fixated on FBS.

He already chose Lafayette...

23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Patriot League on: January 28, 2017, 12:34:29 pm
I'm visiting my son who lives near Monmouth. Talking about the school and mentioning how it came up in this thread, I looked up their sched for next year. First six games, all OOC -
Lafayette, Lehigh, Albany, Hampton, Bucknell, Holy Cross

There's only 6 football playing members of the Big South Conference next year.  The final five games for Monmouth are against all the other in conference teams.  Monmouth must incur some big expenses travelling for football.  Chris Hogan of the New England Patriots played his only season of collegiate football at Monmouth according to their website.  I've been to Monmouth a number of times over the last 25 years mostly on work-related visits and saw tremendous growth at the campus which is very nice.  The mansion (used in the film Annie) is called Wilson Hall and is used as their main administration building.  It is beautiful inside and out.

It seems to me that Monmouth belongs in the NEC....with has an odd number of teams now.
...

Quote from: Chaka001
...
Monmouth, I would be curious to know as to why they play in the Big South as as mentioned, the NEC seems like a better fit.
...

Monmouth was in the NEC for all sports.  When they decided to leave for the MAAC for all other sports their plan was to remain in the NEC for football.  But they never consulted with the NEC to see how they would feel about such an arrangement.  When they asked to remain, the NEC told them to take a hike and booted the Monmouth football team from the conference.  They looked around and could only come up with the Big South that would take them.

I was just catching up on some reading and in the Sports Illustrated dated December 26. 2016 our recruit Zach Davis is mentioned in the Faces in the Crowd section.  I gave a quick look but did not find it on-line to post.  Usually they mention the institution that the player is or will be attending but Fordham was not mentioned.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Something happening here? on: January 23, 2017, 03:27:08 pm
I have found the turnaround with these wins surprising.  I don't blame anyone for feeling despair after some of the losses we had.  There was a lot of criticism on this board about some of JN's coaching - especially the full court defense and the constant substitutions.   People on here were suggesting adjustments and changes.  I'm just curious if you think the suggestions on this board had any affect on Neubauer.  He seems to have incorporated some of them.  That could be from necessity with the shortened bench and the personnel at his disposal right now but I'm wondering if the board had any influence on him.  Anyhow - no matter what - I am glad he made the necessary adjustments which is something that the previous coach would have been hard pressed to do.

I have to admit that I was very pessimistic about this game and did not listen to it.  I had put this game down as a loss when I reviewed the schedule when it came out.  My nephew who works at VCU texted me towards the end of regulation time to see if I was watching the game.  I went on-line and started watching.  Amazing!  Congratulations to the team and the coaches on a great win.  Most of you guys took a beating on this board, some of it justified and much of it not.  But you did not quit and it really showed last night.  I hope you can sustain it for the rest of the season.  And congrats to CO on his very fine performance - he is starting to come around.

Nothing against Roach, who is doing a good job of what he was hired to do, but we will know things are going to change when they hire an AD who will rattle the cage, and give  him or her the autonomy and budget (or fund raising freedom) to do it.

Until then, rien ne change

i don't think that all happens until McShane and Gray are gone.

Hudson Valley CC, 6'7 forward. Looks like he can move and rebound.

A little more info on this player I that I found.  In his profile he mentions he is interested in engineering and studying at a college where he can get a solid education.  To study engineering you have to have some academic chops.  He can do the Fordham/Columbia program in engineering.  By the way, I think Fordham is missing the boat in not offering various engineering programs - would be a solid basis for STEM.
