1  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Starting Line Up '17-18' on: Today at 02:04:07 pm
SI's A-10 season projections are up.  These are usually pretty good, if prone to the same problems all projections have.  How are they supposed to know what guys are "in the best shape of their lives" mentally and physically a la Will Tavares (we'll see when the rubber hits the road).

https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2017/10/19/atlantic-10-projections-preview-team-rankings-standings

For Fordham? 6-12 and 13th.  The only specific shout-outs are (i) to Slanina being tall, a "true center" and hence his defense is mentioned, I suppose with the idea he's a rim protector, although Chartouny and Chuba had better D ratings last year, and (ii) that Evans can really shoot it and was an Oklahoma State commit at one time. They do give a projected top 7 players with ppg, minutes and projected o rating, but no specific mention of Chartouny in the write-up.  That's odd, since EVERY other team's leading scorer is mentioned in their write-up, and on top of that Chartouny led the league in steals.

No matter, really.  They have Zarko in the top 7, 4 ppg, 52% of minutes, when, depending on Raut he is likely 10 or 11.  I guess that's based on history of minutes played when healthy. They also give Zarko the highest O rating, which seems to be solely based on the fact in limited time last year he had a 4.33-1 assist ratio (well, at least he doesn't turn it over much but he doesn't get all that many touches). Not to rag on Zarko.  I like him, and maybe I'm selling his time short. No mention of Hicks or Bunting.

Ah well, a computer projection won't know everything someone watching the program might know.  We aren't all even sure about some of the line-up.  It's a hoary cliche for a reason: That's why they play the games.  And SI did peg us for 7-11 last year in conference.

I'm keeping my rose-colored glasses.  Over .500 in the league.  The A-10 projection talks about how many top scorers are in the league.  Well, we'll zig when they zag and win with D, with the scoring spread around.

would have expected to see Hicks on their chart

6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: 2017-18 Schedule Released on: September 15, 2017, 05:36:52 pm
Sadly scheduling Iona would improve our RPI,especially compared to Maine and FAMU.

Rich 93 says Iona refuses to play us in RHG.  It may be true but it doesn't make sense to me.
Why not have an excellent chance (probably would be favored) to knock off a local team from a higher conference team in their own gym with a close to equal crowd with virtually no travel costs?  Seems like a no brainer to me.  If I were Iona's AD I would take that game in a heartbeat (and would even consider it without a return game)

I know St. Joseph's has a scheduling strategy to try and schedule the weakest teams from the conference above the,  I talk to one of their Assistant AD;s about it at length.  They do their best to make it happen every year.

my understanding of the Iona scheduling situation is that they insisted on hosting first with RHG in year two     would like to see that rivalry revived especially with the dramatic contrast in styles between the teams as currently coached, uptempo vs D emphasis     it would draw as well      perhaps some swallowing of pride and a coin flip could decide initial location, doubt it       the Manhattan vs Iona games are the most intense in the area

10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: 2017-18 Schedule Released on: September 07, 2017, 03:16:52 pm
My impression is that this game intentionally has been scheduled for a quiet time (i.e. long weekends) over the last several years.  I would not be surprised if the administration wants to discourage students from drinking all day and creating a stir at the game.

As to the NFL, it will be week 12 of the regular season.  The Giants are playing @ Wash Thanksgiving night.  No conflict.  The Panthers are @ Jets at 1:00, but that game might not be meaningful by then.

re Fordham students drinking all day and creating stir at the Manhattan game, those days are long gone

re Carolina = Jets game not being meaningful, as a Jet fan, totally agree

I hope that they are wrong.

How do they think that we will only score 10 points?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2729676-college-football-picks-week-1-predictions-for-every-game

I hoped they were wrong as well. That was an horrific performance from start to finish, staff and players share the blame. The only good aspect is that you only get one loss for this. we return to our proper level of competition after this but this performance may be hard to rally off of.  first four plays, penalties on each, going for it on 4th down in own territory in 1st quarter, not calling timeout as half approached, followed by KA running out of bounds rather than throwing Hail Mary  on last play of half.   laid an egg on National TV, hope we can rebound
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Army game on: September 01, 2017, 11:47:17 am
Current line I'm seeing has the Rams as 15.5 point underdogs

up to a whopping 20  1/2      thats a ton of points
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: August 18, 2017, 02:55:45 pm
if you retire his number, you would have to have a mass number retiring ceremony    he was a good player but not at the number retiring level    a few dozen others would have to be included     obviously, not practical or desirable

retiring his alone would be an affront to others much more deserving

I didn't watch the Pittsburgh-Giants game Friday night. Does anybody know if Odom played at all?

I did not watch either but box score has him at 1 pass targeted for him 0 receptions

The Rams will host the other Miami - OH - Friday 11/10.

The OOC games with dates confirmed so far are:

Miami (OH) 11/10
@Rutgers 12/12
@WVU 12/23

the Miami game is listed as part of the Jamaica Classic Montego Bay    11/10 - 24 campus sites     11/18-19  Montego Bay   12/10 - Tampa
pre-determined match ups rather than brackets    this is the only game that we are listed for at this point
other teams involved include: LeTourneau    Northwestern St.  Hartford   LIU   Tulane   Colorado St.  Florida St.   Winthrop

schedule indicates others TBD   don't know if they mean others teams and / or other games
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Ivan Raut signs with Fordham on: July 12, 2017, 10:15:42 pm
Needs to get with Willie Cruz ASAP

considering the number of injuries we had last season, maybe the emphasis should be on durability, a major concern in my opinion

24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five / on: June 29, 2017, 07:45:12 pm
Bill sank most of his shots from the left elbow.  They'd be 3 pointers nowadays.  His scoring was a large part of our record-setting home win streak that still stands today.

including a buzzer beating bomb against Seton Hall and a solid game against a very good Columbia team    his performance against Manhattan at MSG , albeit in a loss, was one of the best I have seen in person     he was a pleasure to watch and yes, many of his buckets would have been 3s with ease

Litwack was still the coach at Temple, game was at RHG      Zambetti was the shooter vs Marquette, single OT, not 3         2 of the 3 losses that season were vs Phila. zone Ds, ironic since Digger background was at Penn
