We seem t go through sports marketing staff very quickly. Does Grank chase them away?

They probably leave when they realize there is no sports marketing.
6  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Fordham Rugby 7's make the Championship game on: June 04, 2017, 02:29:30 pm
I believe if Fordham wins, we move up to the Collegiate Rugby Challenge next year. Delaware won last year and moved up.
Don't know if anyone gets relegated.

8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Football Schedules 2017-18-19 on: June 01, 2017, 04:40:11 pm
Eastern Washington comes here after opening at Texas Tech, and then hosting North Dakota State for week 2. Their game after us is the Montana Griz, a hated rival for them. We need to play well, hopefully win, and establish some national credibility for Fordham and the Patriot League.

The PL has had 2 bids a couple of times recently, but not often, so yes we need to bulk up the OOC schedule, and win,  if we want to have better odds for an at large, but so do the other teams in the PL to improve the league perception, and the only ones capable of that at the moment are Colgate and Lehigh.

They would probably complain about the pressures created by Fordham's endowment...oh, wait, let's look at the endowments of a random selection of Catholic D1-basketball-playing colleges and universities:

Fordham: $721 million   $456
Holy Cross: $681 million  $162
St. John's: $643 million  $560
Villanova: $551 million    $304
Loyola (IL): $535 million  $485
Dayton: $500 million        $394
Creighton: $448 million    $154
Loyola Marymount: $440 million
Fairfield: $310 million
San Francisco: $300 million
Duquesne: $260 million
Seton Hall: $242 million
Marist: $220 million
St. Joe's: $216 million    $160
Providence: $213 million
Loyola (MD): $206 million
Gonzaga: $181 million       $170
Sacred Heart: $137 million
St. Mary's: $133 million      $58
Siena: $132 million
Iona: $116 million
Canisius: $110 million
Niagara: $93 million
LaSalle: $87 million
Manhattan: $79 million
St. Bonaventure: $60 million
Detroit Mercy: $44 million
St. Peter's: $31 million

Endowment is not the whole picture. Lets look at debt (numbers may not be for the same year, for example from their financials Loyola Chi. endowment 2016 was closer to $650). I will paint inside the lines here, adding a debt column for selected schools within the quote box. What does it tell me? Not sure. In any event, as far as I can tell without doing some more research, most athletic infrastructure initiatives are undertaken through targeted fundraising and sponsorships, not from the endowment. I understand that the administration seems not to want to allow fundraising of any consequence directed toward athletic infrastructure.

By the way, if they wanted to have an impact, they would raise money for the FM training center, not for cosmetics. Or we could have the FM comfort area, like Lombardi does on the NJ Turnpike. Don't know FM, not trying to be disrespectful, but its good enough for Vince, and the place needs one.

It is possible for the coaches to make a mistake. Infallibility is at a premium these days.
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 03, 2017, 06:38:38 pm
Its seems pretty clear to me that JN is not a hale fellow well met back slapping kind of guy intent on managing his externals (although he could incorporate a little more) , so trusting that he and the staff have their noses to the grindstone.

We will hear when we hear. It is kinda quiet though.

Yours truly

12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 18, 2017, 06:41:14 pm
That's what happens when you have so many different people providing their opinion.

The dissonance arose because the same people were saying the "seemingly" contradictory things, although not all in the same threads.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: AA to UCONN on: April 18, 2017, 08:38:25 am
It seems there is a fair amount of cognitive dissonance going on here

AA is good enough that if he stayed and played for us and we got a couple of pieces, we could contend for post season basketball next year
versus
UConn  is going to be bad, and he won't play anyway because its UConn and he is not good enough, but they are going to be bad

He is good for the A10 but not the AAC
versus
The A10 and AAC are pretty much equal

He is a one year transfer and they need pieces because of unexpected departures, and they won't do anything for his game, because he is just filling a seat on the bench
versus
What exactly are we going to be doing next year with transfers?

Our coach can coach players up, but
Their coach can't or won't, because why would you want your players to get better?

I could go on.

14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where is everybody going and why? on: March 31, 2017, 06:43:58 pm
Where is everybody going and why?

We don't know. Radio silence on both. It would be nice to hear from JN on the subject. So we speculate

I think CS planned to do this from the start. Otherwise, why graduate in 3? Optionality? Free grad degree either way I guess.

Anderson? Who knows. Although Fordham took some risk with him and he should feel some gratitude.

Not sure what JC's plan is.

Point is they don't want to stay. They knew about the gym and the fans when they came, that couldn't have been a surprise. They are (were) integral parts of the team, lots of PT. The team was improving, not straight line improvement, but not the horror show it was.  One or two good adds, who knows? Of course we have not heard about any recruits yet. And 3 guys that are here don't want to stay. Don't know where they are going yet, but they don't want to stay.

16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham @ Rhode Island - Wednesday 2/15, 7pm Pre-Game/In-Game Thread on: February 14, 2017, 01:02:13 pm
Sorry, but no.

Playing like a D2 school until January 11th is what cost us 4-5 wins.

Losing to vanilla sprinkle cupcakes like UTA, Sacred Heart, Manhattan and Duquesne is why Fordham will be 12-19 rather than 16-15.

Not sure we are in a position yet to call anyone else a vanilla sprinkle cupcake.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Are we in free fall? on: January 11, 2017, 06:39:36 pm
Part of it I think is because the style JN is using is unfamiliar (at least to me) and the philosophy has not been explained.
Perhaps the open dunks come with the defense, theory being a basket is a basket and if we get enough turnovers I don't care if they have 10 uncontested dunks.
But I at least am a little more traditional - I don't like strikeouts either and don't buy the "it s just another out" logic. If you put the ball in play something can happen, and if you make the other team shoot from more that 3 feet away they might miss.
Same thing on rebounding - our guys don't seem to go after it, particularly on offense when it seems to me that when the shot goes up, they are preparing to defend, not trying for the offensive rebound. But that may be part of the philosophy as well. It would be nice to know. Maybe its just me.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Ideas to improve recruiting and development on: January 10, 2017, 06:00:40 pm
Nothing against Roach, who is doing a good job of what he was hired to do, but we will know things are going to change when they hire an AD who will rattle the cage, and give  him or her the autonomy and budget (or fund raising freedom) to do it.

Until then, rien ne change

21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: December 22, 2016, 12:37:06 pm
I see no problem with going the Transfer and Juco route and then adding in some Frosh that help. If you look at this year's team the biggest gap in expected production to actual production was with the 4 players we brought in this way. Hawkins has not been as advertised, Hicks got hurt, Taveras has been good in stretches, and Slanina is clearly a project.

We needed those 4 to produce out of the gate for us to be competitive. Taveras is really the only one that has lived up to expectation thus far. This and JC getting hurt is a much bigger factor to our lack of success than Pekarek, Zarko, Ohams or any one else not producing.

I still think that a core of JC, CS, Taveras, Hicks, AA and Ohams and even Slanina good be a decent starting point for next year. The real key will be in we can bring in an impact Grad Transfer Juco or Mid-year transfer  that can contribute right away and be added to that group.

I like many here have put aside my delusions of grandeur for this year. The rest of this year should be focused on the development of that core group above and determining if NZ, JB, or DP can play any part moving forward or if they should be a wash.

Agreed on transfers and Jucos. Just not sure JN had any reputation outside the geographic area immediately surrounding Kentucky and that it might take some time to establish himself. Of course that is also what assistants are for.
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: December 21, 2016, 08:44:04 am
Looked at the EKU roster over the last few years.

5-6 players most years from JUCO or transfers
players direct from high school almost solely from states contiguous to Kentucky.

Just observations.

Joe... if you are on his Hudl, and click "TEAM" you can easily sort and see his QB listed by number....click on the QB and you can get all of his measureables, video, profile, etc

Thanks.

Who is the QB in Prater's video. Kid is making accurate 60 yard throws.
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Are we in free fall? on: December 13, 2016, 06:35:41 pm
This should not be seen as a zero sum game.
The football playoffs were on Thanksgiving weekend, and about 2,500 made it. Nobody in the FCS draws for that game.
Football doesn't "spend" $7 million. Most of that is scholarships. The school does not admit 60 fewer students because of football.
We could have success in the A 10 - heck, St Bonaventure does at times for crying out loud.
Let's remember that JN came from the Ohio Valley Conference off a run of finishing 2,2, and 1 in his division, and making 2CIT tournaments and one NCAA. Before that not much.
I think the jury is out a little here because this is a step up for him, and his system is a little different and won't work without the right players. Plus he is acclimating to New York still I would guess. But while he was a step up from hiring around the corner, not really a statement hire. Of course that was tried a couple of times and didn't turn out so well either.
We hired an AD from Colgate - no wait he was out of a job at the time. While I think Roach is doing what he can, and I tried at the time to reconcile it with greater success in retrospect it is telling. Football too - no temp stands? No real marketing?
I was at the game with the broken rim - wow.
The A10 is financially advantageous for us compared to the PL or MAAC so we are not moving just based on that.

You gotta look at all the moves as the pieces to a puzzle - what do they tell you?

I believe the administration is afraid of success in basketball, and is very happy where football is. You ever try to talk to Fr. McShane about basketball? That approach will change when we get an administration that pushes athletics, instead of tolerating it. Until then, it is what it is.

26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham Harvard on: December 02, 2016, 04:46:42 pm
The wolves are out already for Neubauer a handful of games into his second season. Give me a break.

The wolves were out for JN before he got here. The wolves were out for whoever got here before they got here.

Things on the court do seem out of synch at times, and it seems the team has not yet adapted to the speed the system demands. Coupled with the  rapid substitutions and it is a game none of these guys have really played before, and there are no experienced players to show how by example except the transfer. We shall see.
