I’m disputing last week’s suspension.

WatchESPN is the same as what used to be called ESPN3. Video feeds tend to be quality.

First time I was not happy on a Murray make.

Thanks for doing this, FTF4!

As long as AOC did not win, I think this was another successful season!!   Grin

Agree on Bunting but at what point do you question the system? Meaning we shoot the 3 but what if you have a roster that can't shoot consistently?

I think some have questioned it already.
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: The season so far, by the numbers on: Yesterday at 09:47:33 am
Free throws have been an issue for quite a while. There's only two factors involved: mental and mechanical. Both can and should be corrected with proper coaching. Why doesn't it get done ? Maybe free throws like recruiting are "not that important".

Who said recruiting was "not that important"? I also think it is overly simplistic to suggest that free-throws are easily fixed.

Maybe their students don't go away for Columbus Day weekend as much as ours do or used to.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Tulane (Montego Bay) - 11/19/17 on: Yesterday at 09:44:38 am
And Bunting would give us some much needed interior scoring down low in the paint close to the basket since he is so strong and a good offensive rebounder. Only Tavares is scoring down low when he attacks the basket and occasionally Slanina when he posts his defender up. JC needs to attack the basket more and look to score more and finish like he did the last 2 years.

I thought this was sarcasm when I started reading and then as I went on I realized it was not. I really do not see Bunting providing an interior presence on offense and even if he could, I do not think our system would facilitate it.
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Tulane (Montego Bay) - 11/19/17 on: November 19, 2017, 10:22:55 pm
I think Belmont was implying that Bunting should have had a chance to play before the last minute of the game.  I agree

Instead of whom?
10  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Mens NCAA tourney Soccer tonight 7pm JCF on: November 19, 2017, 10:13:12 pm
What an amazing run (so far)! As always, so proud to be a Ram! Not to be greedy but just 4 more for the Natty (I can dream can't I haha).

In all seriousness, congrats to all the players and coaches for getting this far! You've earned this big time!

Anything can happen. It is going to be tough to continue to play on the road, but we have a good keeper and the team is playing with confidence. I am going to guess we have not played Duke since 1989 at the NC State tournament. Lost 2-1 then, so time for revenge!
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Tulane (Montego Bay) - 11/19/17 on: November 19, 2017, 10:10:10 pm
NOW he puts Bunting in? WTF?

Offense/defense. Slanina had 4 fouls. That was a good sub.
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Nike to Under Armour on: November 19, 2017, 08:39:32 pm
No big news here but I. Relive the hoops teams switched from Nike to Under Armour.  Seems odd as almost every other team uses Nike.  Soccer wears Puma and other teams may differ as well?  Unless we are in the middle of a transition why would the athletic department not leverage the entire program to get a better deal to procure uniforms and equipment at a. Enter price.  Why not parlay some sponsorship as well into the deal?

Any one have any info?

I have heard we are in the middle of a transition.

Amazing achievement. I intentionally did not make the drive to Charlottesville. They would have lost if I had.
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Bucknell @ Fordham on: November 19, 2017, 07:13:58 pm
Canít argue with you. I asked why he didnít play. Thatís what I was told.  Guys on FUV said it during the game. It was never retracted.   This is how Fordham does itís business.  I have no idea what the complete basketball roster is.  Bizarre.

Yesterday?
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Bucknell @ Fordham on: November 18, 2017, 05:27:03 pm
Congratulations to Chase and the seniors who had a great run 3/4 years at Rose Hill.  Hopefully, another wave of victories and champions are on campus and return next year.

What are the negative inference(s) regarding KA?  He had a great career too.  probably top 3 QB in the Modern Era of FU Football, no?

Kevin Eakin, John Skelton, Mike Nebrich, in order of appearance, were all better than Anderson in my book.

As for the negative commentary, some are saying he was suspended multiple times for insubordination. I do not know anything about that though.
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Bucknell @ Fordham on: November 18, 2017, 05:21:28 pm
Maybe he wanted to be out there for those meaningless plays, but "secure the victory"? We were up 20-9 with 1:24 to go. No gain, lose 3, gain 3. But it was a happy ending and no one got hurt (it seems) during those last few seconds in the wind and rain.

Yep, a first down would have meant Bucknell could not get the ball back. It ended up that a penalty did that instead, but if Bucknell had gotten the ball back a touchdown would have put them within 1 score and then they would have gone for an onside kick. 11 points with 1:24 is no guarantee. If victory is not meaningless, then the plays were not meaningless.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Bucknell @ Fordham on: November 18, 2017, 03:31:48 pm
It SHOULD have been a lovely way, but for some inexplicable reason he was on the field for the final, meaningless plays. Similarly I would have pulled that lineman and given him a chance to come off to a nice ovation.

Maybe Chase wanted to be on the field to end his career and help secure the victory.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Bucknell @ Fordham on: November 18, 2017, 02:46:57 pm
Good job not letting them score a TD after the turnover. Let's see if the offense can get going.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Florida State (Montego Bay) - 11/17/17 on: November 18, 2017, 02:15:52 pm
In fairness, I had been drinking, and persuaded the owner to have the game on all of the televisions.

I just dont see the effort in these big time games. Its like they go into them as a foregone conclusion. Maybe the talent gap has grown over the years but I dont see guys licking their chops with the chance to pull an upset and get a little national notoriety.  I'm old, from another era. We played NC and Hobbie and McIntosh were playing like animals, up at the half. SJU was #1 team in nation and we lost by 1 point. I think Goran broke Bill Wenningtons ribs with his elbows.  I remember Parotta squaring off with Matt Rust during an OT loss to SJU. That bite, that mentality seems lost in these games.

I think the talent gap thing has something to do with it. As you like to point out, there are too many DI teams these days and therefore too many scholarships to go around.
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Bucknell @ Fordham on: November 18, 2017, 01:48:02 pm
Has Chase had a 100 yard game this season?

Not before today, but has 105 at the half.

I thought his comments were spot on, just with a little added color.

The repetitiveness was wholly unnecessary.
22  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Mens NCAA tourney Soccer tonight 7pm JCF on: November 18, 2017, 09:35:55 am
Thanks, Ace and massram. I did remember that the T&T goal was to the back post not the front, but struck from that far away both seemed to be blockable. That must be a nightmare for a GK. You're expecting a cross, a floater into the box and before you realize...!

It is a nightmare, but not so much b/c you cheated, but more b/c you just don't get a good read on the ball. If you get a good read you just take a few steps back and/or shuffle left/right and the ball is right within your reach. Get a good read and the ball is easily saved; get a bad read and you feel like you have cinder blocks on your feet.
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham vs. Florida State (Montego Bay) - 11/17/17 on: November 17, 2017, 11:05:56 pm
I'm pretty happy with our defense. When you're that abysmal offensively it's really hard to sustain defensive effort, we did have a few more breakdowns as the game went on but in general that half of the game was really high level.  Some nitpicking there would be unnecessary reach-ins by Hicks, and Tavares getting caught up high too often, though I'm sure guarding a seven footer wasn't his idea of a fun day.

So, the offense.  A few cardinal sins each occurred multiple times today.  Don't act like you're going to set a screen and then decide not to, that's damn confusing for the ballhandler.  Don't dump the ball to one of your guards in the forest on the baseline unless there's a really good plan what to do next. And if you're too psyched out to shoot straight, give it up to those that aren't (only 2 guys fell in that category).

I make a distinction between psyched out and intimidated - I didn't see anyone who played scared, but a good amount of confusion and hopelessness. Still unacceptable but much more curable.

Were they slipping screens too early or just not setting them? On the subject of screens, I feel our guards don't use them very well. They don't get close enough to the guy setting the screen, so it is too easy for the defender to get past the screen and stick with the guard.

85,
Can't let this stuff make you crazy.

Too late. Did you read his posts in this thread?

And he tells someone else they should be institutionalized. Precious.
25  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Mens NCAA tourney Soccer tonight 7pm JCF on: November 17, 2017, 05:39:24 pm
I think there is a chance. We have to come out pumped. Having Virginia underestimate us could help.

Kenman, let me go look for a video of that game to see if it was similar. I donít remember them well enough. In our game it seemed the keeper was cheating for a cross and he left the front door open.

edit: looks different. That goal was scored back post and in my opinion Howard was a bit slow (old age), but he was fairly well positioned.

In the case of our first goal against SF, I feel the keeper was cheating to the middle, but in his defense that shot had some serious movement on it. I would love to find out if that was the intention when the ball was struck.

Not just the glare but the gridiron markings as well.  Jeez, I hate watching soccer when the fields have other (non soccer) line markings.  I usually don't watch in that event.

Yes, that did not help either. I won't say anything else on that topic, so that we don't turn this into a facilities thread! Wink

Ha.  "Fordham beats Columbia, 4 - 4"?

Boy, those first two goals of ours were incredible.  First one floated in there from sooo deep.  Second one was such a great header.  Final one was great hustle.

Great stuff. Who/when is next?

Ha. Who said anything about beating them? We did celebrate like we had that night though. The season went downhill after that.

Our first  goal was a bit of a gaffe by the keeper.

Virginia is next. Sunday at 5PM in Charlottesville.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Should Coach Breiner be on the "Hot Seat" on: November 17, 2017, 02:10:16 pm
I don't see what football trends have to do with our situation.  We have a coach who didn't make good hires and is having a tough time getting the team to respond.  Oregon and Texas Tech have nothing to do with that.  We're playing a spread offense and its worked well with great players and good coaching.  We came down to earth when we no longer had superior players and our established coaches moved on.

According to many on the board, the recruiting is fine and we have good players.  I don't agree but...   If we have good players, then it has to be the coaching.  Or most likely a combination of not great players or coaching.  If its the coaching, you have to make changes.  If AB doesn't want to shake up the staff, I'd move him out next week.  It's easier than moving out 40 players.   Many of the weaknesses I've seen have nothing to do with an offensive or defensive system or coaches being on the same page.  I've seen really bad fundamentals.  Big staffing changes are called for, IMO.

Football trends = concentrating on offense more defense.
Fordham under Moorhead and Breiner = concentrated on offense more than defense.

Football trends = Fordham under Moorhead and Breiner.

Last time I saw a soccer team get stormed on the field was Fordham Columbia played on Eddie's back in 1984.  And I think it ended in a tie.

Great to see a home game in the tournament. Tremendous accomplishment.

Happened again in 1991. Same two teams. Columbia came in ranked 12th and we tied them 4-4. As odd as it may sound, given the score, I did have a good game that day. One of my roommates stormed the field when we went up 4-3 thinking it was golden goal. Columbia tied on the game at 4 on a rebound on a saved penalty kick. Teammate cleared it off the line, but ref said it went over. Coach told me later that if I were more athletic I would have gotten up quick enough to make the 2nd save. Sadly he was right.
