I would pick both Haynes and Herzog over Green

Agreed. Haynes was the better athlete, Herzog the more complete basketball player.
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five on: Yesterday at 10:49:37 am
Green over Herzog?   Must be potential interesting call.

By the way this is a great fun thread.

I'm shocked.  Greene does not even come close to giving a team what Herzog could.
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five on: May 25, 2017, 04:21:14 pm
I have to replace Bevon with Smush.  Pure talent wise Smush was the only NBA player we've had.   It is also really tough leaving Prioleau and J-Rock off the team.

I tend to forget Smush b/c he just had a cup of coffee here, but you are right he should be on.

I think Bevon was better than Prioleau.

As much as I liked J-Rock, I think he is a notch below Bevon and Prioleau.

To me, Fuzzy was as pure a point guard as I have seen at FU, but he could score when needed. I don't think you can have 5 score-first type guys on the same list. I guess I was building a team more than just listing the best 5 guys.
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five on: May 25, 2017, 11:03:10 am
I think I could come up with many combinations, but I think I am going to just go with this one. I started watching FU basketball in the Fall of 1989.

C - Damon Lopez
PF - Bryant Dunston
SF - Fred Herzog
SG - Bevon Robin
PG - Jay Fazande

Dunston and Robin would be playing where they truly belonged. Lopez was a beast on both ends of the floor. Herzog was, in my opinion, the most complete basketball player I have seen at Fordham.  Fazande would make that group run like a well oiled machine.
5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five on: May 25, 2017, 10:52:11 am
Maurice Curtis, Bevon Robin, Jason Harris, Trevor Diggs, Alejandro Olivares

That you've seen? That's a good way to do this actually and can avoid some arguments.

Trevor Diggs? Did he ever make it to RH?
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five on: May 25, 2017, 10:29:02 am
Subjective but here's my take:

PG: Jared Fay
SG: Jake Fay
SF: Ashantai Burke
PF: Kevin Freeman
C: Jacob Green

Excellent list. Do you mean Brian Freeman? I don't remember a Kevin Freeman.

Right, Penn State and Maryland, though I'm not sure the terps were big10 yet.

That was their first year in the B1G.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: 2017-18 Out Of Conference Schedule on: May 25, 2017, 12:02:53 am
When was the last time we played a B1G team?

Last season, but if you are looking for other than Rutgers then 2014, I believe.
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: MANNY SUAREZ 44 on: May 23, 2017, 10:56:11 am
I was told he was told that he couldn't play at Fordahm. Coach thought he wasn't good enough. He was upset and did not want to leave. Everyone gets one wrong.  I was criticized for saying he could have helped early in season last year.  The bottom line is that he really could have helped.

Can't assume he would have put in the work to get himself to where he is now physically. Based on the video I saw, so admittedly not a ton to go on, he looks like he worked very hard in the weight room. He was at Fordham for 2 seasons and apparently did not do that then. I personally think he needed a kick in the pants. If that is true, it seems to have worked.
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Softball in the NCAA's on: May 20, 2017, 06:18:00 pm
Ha ha. Not as bad as those who post about 71.

Overachieve might be a bit much, perhaps I should just say persevered. I thought we were done when Van Hoven  went down. She is tough to replace. Figueroa was a big loss too.
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Softball in the NCAA's on: May 20, 2017, 04:13:21 pm
I think this team overachieved. Maybe not relative to conference predict, I can't remember what they were, but relative to what would have been expected after all the injuries. The injuries were to some key people and the team overcame them.
12  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: Baseball Gets Improbable Win on: May 18, 2017, 04:17:07 pm
WHAT HAPPENED TO BASEBALL AT FORDHAM.  When I was a kid that team was a national power...Now they barely make the playoffs.  Was it the Patriot League move that killed them or getting rid of Gallagher?

Patriot League move hurt a ton. I think the landscape of college baseball has changed a good bit too since then.

joeb to the rescue...again! Thanks!!
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 18, 2017, 01:08:44 pm
Now this thread has deteriorated into talking about "talking about recruiting"! ::)

Well let's make your post and my reply to it the end of that. I think we hashed out a few things and it should help going forward.
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: May 18, 2017, 11:50:22 am
LoL!!  Shame on you Ace.  If I didn't know better I'd accuse you of being a traffic generator.   ;)

I make no money off this site. Traffic does me no good.
16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 18, 2017, 09:46:27 am
I think potential gives it too much credibility. How about "speculation" or "wish list"

It could be something like, "players we're hopefully looking at" or similar. People can comment on guys they hope we are looking at.
17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: A10 Incoming/Outgoing List 2017-18 on: May 18, 2017, 09:16:19 am
SLU is starting to reload in a hurry.

They have a great facility.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 18, 2017, 09:15:32 am
It's nice to be able to go to one thread where there's something pertinent to Fordham's recruiting efforts. If there's nothing new, there's nothing new.

For those who want to talk about general college BBall recruiting, why not start a thread in the Sports Talk Water Cooler section?  Then, if the kid actually is connected to Fordham, move it over.

I echo this sentiment!
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 11:42:46 pm
I disagree. It's a recruiting update thread. If there is noting to report, it can live without new posts.
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 11:14:27 pm
That seems silly, a standalone for this guy? I'll do it if that's what folks want. He plays in the city, is a transfer who follows our recruiter. He started for an excellent local HS team where most of his teammates are DI. Every target we  know about is gone.  There's no doubt in my mind there are worse guys on the roster.  Not sure I get the annoyance factor. This isn't a 4 star from LA with offers from every P-5 that has never mentioned us.

It runs much deeper your post about this kid. Too many people have been mentioning names here that we have no connection with and others are a bit tired of it. Put me in the same camp as the others.
21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 12:34:36 pm
Not the case.  He would have loved to stay at Fordham.  He was/is very academic-minded too.  Richmond is a good place for him.

Sounds like you know more than you are telling.
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 17, 2017, 11:18:33 am
Maybe we can find the next Domantas Sabonis. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer an Arvydas Sabonis, but I am not being picky.
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Memorial Field stadium on: May 16, 2017, 08:22:22 pm
You're right about options.  There are lots of options, but very few that even theoretically would ever make sense in our case.  The question remains as to when Fordham would ever even need the use of the proposed Mt. Vernon facility.  Who would we play there?  Any FCS team we could I'm sure accommodate at JCF with some portable bleachers added.  Any FBS team either would have us come to their place, or would insist we play at a pro stadium.

I'm sure the proposed Mt. Vernon stadium, if it were to ever actually be built, would be very amenable to having Fordham play a few games there.  In fact, I would guess if this thing were to seriously move forward they would practically be begging Fordham to put a few games there in order to make it look a bit more economically feasible.

My point was that it is an option that can be considered along with any other option, once it's built!

It really does not deserve more discussion than that in my opinion.
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Memorial Field stadium on: May 16, 2017, 03:27:44 pm
Seems like the point is lost on you again.  Why not keep the option of an off-campus game on the table?   It has nothing to do with improving JCF, which we all agree needs to happen. My last attempt of using logic.

The option is there, just as it is with any other stadium in the area, assuming said stadium is amenable to it.

With this MV stadium, I say let's cross that bridge if/when the opportunity presents itself. As of now it is a fairly pointless conversation given that it very unclear if the stadium at a beneficial capacity will ever come to be.
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham’s Joseph Chartouny to Declare for NBA Draft on: May 16, 2017, 10:28:42 am
Agree but still makes it difficult to "plan" for next year. Also, I wonder what the window is for him to decide to play overseas assuming he gets an offer. The last thing you want is for this to drag on into the summer.

There is no official window that I know of, so it might require the staff giving him one. I do not think there is anything stopping a player from leaving to play pro overseas at any point they might want to do so.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Softball in the NCAA's on: May 15, 2017, 04:43:24 pm
Certainly a valid concern - Hitting the cut off's along with keeping the ball in front of you even if it means fielding it on the bounce can be the difference in the outcome of any game

I have a strong feeling that hitting the cutoff was discussed between games on Sunday.  Ha ha.  But yeah, those are the little things that are not so little and we won't be able to get away with in the NCAA tournament.
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Softball / Re: Softball in the NCAA's on: May 15, 2017, 11:02:32 am
My biggest concern is our fielding. Due to injuries we have some players out of position and that makes it tough, but you could see the fielding difference even yesterday vs. UMass.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: May 15, 2017, 09:43:19 am
Okay so I agree with your post. It just doesn't apply to Myles Johnson. We're only connected with about 10 players and he was offered by Fordham and took an official visit. An UPDATE about his recruitment is totally relevant in the recruiting UPDATE thread.

I agree in that if people are not following every post in this thread, they might not have noticed that Johnson removed us from his list.

Great job! A very resilient team, that's for sure.

Huge mistake not hitting the cuttoff in the top of the 7th.
