gritty win.  sure GTown is not a good football team but we also played without starters Anderson Chase Lumley Caddle Prince..  Im happy for the players.  Longi was fabulous.  Mabin played great too.   Still not thrilled with AB (overall coaching and our record) but to his credit the guys played hard.  RB David went down with a knee. If Chase not back and Davis injury serious serious Palladino will be are only RB next week @ Lehigh. Clearly we'll need another player to take reps @ RB this week.  Tall order, but it would be nice to give Lehigh the business .. Wink next week.

some ideas for 8th PL member..

Monmouth - starting to dominate PL competition  but they cant be happy in Big South
URI  - tired of cellar dweller in CAA ..maybe in PL they are contender
Davidson  - good school would they re try the PL (80's ?)
Marist  -  Pioneer but maybe a fit in PL
Dayton - Ohio presence for PL
Duquense -
Bryant -  well they can compete with us already ;(
William and Mary - CAA better league but maybe ready for a move
Sacred Heart
Butler

I think New Hampshire was interested a few years ago but didn't like no redshrt rule. Plus they put money into facilities recently so think that ship has sailed.
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Another Hit to the Defense? on: October 16, 2017, 10:06:14 pm
ugh..   and the 'hits' keep coming.    Generally, I would side with the HC as you cannot please everybody and not every player will be happy with the time they do get on the field.  However, as a freshman Roberts was a beast at DE.  He may have a point of wanting to play DE  and quite frankly may not be as effective a read and react LB.  This is getting worse every week.  As another poster stated.. Tell Max hang on another month we may have a new coach.
5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Should Coach Breiner be on the "Hot Seat" on: October 16, 2017, 11:28:38 am
what percent chance do you think a HC change is made after the season?    when this poll 1st came out ,  I voted for wait till after season and then consider how it played out..   I thought we would string together some W's and make a run in the PL.   Clearly that's not the case and were headed for a ~ 2-9 season.    Fordham usually doesn't make quick decisive coaching decisions.    but I'm moving over to the camp a change is necessary.   is it a 90% chance AB gets let go ..  or you guys think its more 50/50 range?
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Patriot league is now the worst fcs conf in the country on: October 14, 2017, 11:09:58 pm
think he was referring to the 50MM gift G'Town got last year for athletics (athletic facility stadium field house locker room upgrades etc).  Anyway Holy Cross  is spending big money to upgrade..  Lafayette Lehigh and Colgate  Bucknell all have nicer facilities than Fordham.  Actually the majority of FCS programs do.  We have a one sided field and no field house. Coaches offices are from the 80's and a weight room underneath the stands that resembles a HS gym.  Worse yet is there is no plan to improve the situation.. our BOT and Athletic folks - hope one day... to also have the oldest football field in the nation .. to go along with the oldest gym in nation !  Rose Hill Gym.
7  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Should Coach Breiner be on the "Hot Seat" on: October 14, 2017, 06:32:28 pm
we can hope for a Hail Mary with Coach M.

PSU has a great year.   OC  BallCoachJoMo gets hired as a HC at the end of this season at a power 5 school.  He plucks AB (more like we beg him to take AB along) to join his staff as the QB Coach.   Coach M helps alma mater avoid the drama since he likely pushed AB's hiring to begin with.  We wish them both well  and start fresh with a new coach.
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Should Coach Breiner be on the "Hot Seat" on: October 14, 2017, 05:43:52 pm
I gave Coach B a grade of B last year.  I honestly thought we would have a good year with Chase, Anderson and many returning starters..  The PL title or at very least an FCS playoff bid.  Wups.
The early schedule was tough  Army, EWU and no gimme games (Elizabeth City State /Columbia etc).   Yet figured we would bounce back and string together a winning steak.  How wrong I was.  Coach B and staff get a grade of  F.  The wheels are off.  I know Fordham usually doesn't make quick decisive coaching changes but to go ~ 2-9 with this talent.  Its time for one.
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ Colgate on: October 14, 2017, 01:31:02 pm
I'm listening to game. Although QB Medlock seems to be playing fine what about starting Indiana transfer QB Austin KIng in the 2nd half?  Granted only 1 half of football does not seem a fair shake to Medlock but we need a something..  Maybe King can provide a spark to the offense. He's been with the team for 2months, should know offense by now..

on the any given Saturday website ..  in addition to the AI and no redshirt rule..

another hurdle,  Lehigh Football Nation - supporter and a few other posters think what hurts is the smaller size of PL rosters (90 PL limit) in comparison to CAA, NEC , IVY etc.  the tough academic requirements and the high cost of PL schools limits the number and quality walk ons they get.  HS players who feel they are FCS level skill set (but dont have scholarship offers) have to excellent grades,  and cough up a lot of money just to walk on.  Sure guys 61-80 generally don't affect the W-L column   but with injuries,  bodies for practice and lack of depth during games its another obstacle the PL has in regard to its competition.

2017 roster size
Villanova: 92
Monmouth: 101
Yale: 107
Penn: 102
Wagner: 130
Colgate: 83

Unfortunately,  I agree.

the HS game had a marching band and painted / end-zones (which by the way) the soccer team also uses for games  (lines in yellow)..  it looked good and  is certainly doable @ Coffey Field.    These are 2 more fairly simple things we should do @ Fordham.
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ Colgate on: October 12, 2017, 02:17:20 pm
I missed most of Lafayette  (went to my nephews HS game instead)  so cant comment much on the game itself.
From the stats,  we outgained them ~150 plus yards and held them -6 negative rushing yards and still lost.  Ouch.

I don't think Lafayette will win the PL.  I don't have much hope for a W @ Colgate, but if can beat them, we'll be right back in the PL title race.   crazy.

16  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ Lafayette on: October 05, 2017, 04:34:19 pm
If we can scratch out a W against Lafayette..   next weekend @ Colgate will be a big game for us.  I'd say they are the favorites at this point.
We have Lehigh Holy Cross Bucknell  all @ home -- to end the season.   I realize we may go 1-5 (G'Town) down the stretch or winless the rest of the way..  but a W  may give the kids a much needed boost and a big game to look forward to next weekend.

18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham Football Falls - How far would this set us back? on: October 04, 2017, 10:05:47 pm
I watch or attend all of the games. Disclaimer, I do not go back and break down film.  Smiley  Here it goes.

DL - For many years, I thought we were undersized on the DL .  This season, DT's  Manny 6'5 295  and Ware 6'4 280 are certainly big enough for the FCS level. Unfortunately, neither seem to be making an impact.  DE Green is ok but never really stands out.   DE Dimon  a former walk on is definitely 6'0 230  undersized and doesn't seem to be a run stuffer or pass rusher.  Rottsolk moved over to OL and DE Pinninich has been injured for his 1st 2 years.  I do think we have some promising freshman but thats for down the road.

LB - I thought Roberts would be the leader of our defense as a sophomore. He looks the part physically and had a terrific freshman campaign.  Yet he was most productive as a DE  yes undersized but perhaps better for his skill set as a rush end (then a read react or pass coverage LB).  Fitzgerald is athletic but not a hard hitter.  Freshman LB Cunningham is also athletic but still raw.  Thorpe once thought to be the enforcer on our D  has been injured and never really regained his form.

DB - as experienced as we are in the back we still stink.  I blame more the coaching staff than individual players here.  Guys are running free all over the field.  If a WR TE RB makes a good play to beat you, you tip the cap..  However when no one is within 10-15 yards of them thats poor coaching.   They have no idea what there doing assignment wise.

I know we play a 4-2-5   and other than googling it during summer camp I can t say Im an expert.  Its not working.  Maybe move back to a more traditional 4-3 with a 3rd LB instead of a extra DB.  Our DC really needs to clean up the mess.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Yale @ Fordham on: October 04, 2017, 09:12:33 pm
Fred,  Ill take the bait.  You're new to the board and all your posts show displeasure/anger with Coach B.
Were you a recent player under AB who wasn't getting playing time (an left) or a position coach that wasn't retained (fired)?
Perhaps you're right and many players do not like Coach B.  However,  some head coaches purposely try to take the disciplinarian - hard ass role as to gain respect (not win a popularity contest).  I believe Coach Clawson (good coach for us ~15 years ago) took that route.  Look Coach B may not end up being a good HC.  It remains to be seen.  but if your going to spew a ton of negativity about him why don't you enlighten us with your name-situation..
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Yale @ Fordham on: October 04, 2017, 12:08:04 pm
AB  recruited  4 OL and 5 DL scholarship players in this freshman class.  In our recruiting thread we have 4 OL commits and 1 DL commit for next class  (assuming they all stay).  On paper they look good to me (considering the other schools that offered these guys).  One area where you and a few others  mentioned to close the talent gap is to try and land a few FBS transfers, JC guys or at very least guys who do a prep year. This way they will be more physically mature (and ready to play) from the day they step on campus. Whether he/we can coach them up .. the jury is still out.   and to be fair from that video it appears Chase was recruited by AB.  Maybe AB is a good recruiter but not a good HC   I don't know.  We'll find out.

Fordham Game notes

2 deep is same but it wasn't accurate last week.  Listed starters  Chase and OC  Deya  DNP.    Additionally  CB Bramble was listed as starter and DNP either.  Still no WR Longi.  Another guy I hope plays is OL Coyle (he's our best OL) he got banged up last series @ Bryant.

I don't know what can be done to improve the D.  Perhaps crowd the box regularly,  more run and pass blitzing from the LB's,  shifting the DL before the snap,   use man coverage (rather than zone) in secondary.  Whatever we've been doing its not working, so try something different.   Roll Eyes

I'm not feeling great about this game.  They hung 65 on Lehigh.    Get some new lights for the scoreboard and hope we outscore them by 1 point.      Grin
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Fordham @ Bryant on: September 23, 2017, 04:32:36 pm
wow.  our D is historically bad.  Bryant set a new record for total offense against us.  I'd tip my cap to great offensive play calling or individual play but our defensive players never seem to know their assignment (run or pass). It is a joke.
Anderson threw for 366 years and 5 TD's.  David ran for 100+ and we still lost.
Chase is out , Coyle went down with a knee injury. Its getting ugly.
About our only saving grace is the rest of the PL sucks too (except maybe Holy Cross).

you think  Notre Dame  is a possibility for Coach M ?

http://www.coacheshotseat.com/CoachesHotSeatRanking.htm

briefly looking at the hot seat rankings  --   Notre Dame, Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia

if any of these open at the end of the season I think Joe would get an interview/look.

http://www.fordhamsports.com/documents/2017/9/21/Fordham_Game_Notes_Bryant.pdf

Fordham Game Notes

Chase  listed as starter (like last week) but he DNP.  OL's Hartman and Donaldson also listed as starters (like last week) but both DNP (injured) either. So who knows if any of them will play @ Bryant.
The WR's were updated (still no Longi)  but freshman WR  Hunter Harris moves into 2 deep.
D depth chart looks the same.

a few players noticed on sideline with injuries -  DE Pinnich (left shoulder sling)    DT  Diodato street clothes (been injured all season I believe)  and WR Elezeyat  (street clothes).   WR Allen  (right foot).

We got manhandled against EWU  but I do not think we looked sloppy.  If we play sound football (limit penalities and turnovers) I expect to beat these guys.
29  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Eastern Washington @ Fordham on: September 20, 2017, 12:54:09 pm
Fred      we're you a former player that left the team?    was it because of lack of playing time or you just didn't like Coach B?
A coach that applied for a job @ FU and didn't get it or one that was not retained (fired) from last year?

Maybe your 100% right.  I have no idea if the players like him.  I just follow the team from watching all the games and reading recruiting threads/message boards.  However when you are a brand new poster with only 2 posts.. clearly seems as if have an axe to grind against Coach B.
30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: DEFENSIVE AUTOPSY on: September 19, 2017, 10:55:11 pm
good idea/point.  I like the idea of transfers or perhaps junior college guys who have some experience, are stronger, heavier and physically ready to play and compete once they step on campus.  My point was it looks like Coach B is putting more emphasis on OL/DL recruiting as far as #'s  ( 9 scholarship freshman on the OL/DL this year and 5 OL/DL verbal commits already for next year).  Their are definitely print articles, recruiting sites and HS players twitter feeds .. that show what other schools offered them.  we both post often here. so we can disagree on getting guys that choose Fordham over other CAA FBS schools.  Smiley

on recruiting thread- i have bunch on next year class..  take a look at  these 2 for
OL Marinelli http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Anthony-Marinelli-95514/RecruitInterests
OL Glazer     http://247sports.com/Player/Austin-Glazier-46040172

and their not the only ones  Smiley
