1  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Sengfelder to transfer on: Yesterday at 03:37:34 pm
A little different thought on how the transfer affects recruiting

While I have no inside information I have to believe that the staff either knew of the transfer or had some suspicions about it

Hard to believe that they were caught off guard about it

While they still have to land a replacement I think they have laid the groundwork for it. I do hope that the recruiting class will include a mix of JUCO,  true freshman and a 5th year transfer

In fact you have to wonder if the emerging importance of 5th year transfers might take a little emphasis off the early signing period as it might be a better plan for most schools to hold at least one scholarship so they can look at who is available in that bucket in the spring
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Sengfelder to transfer on: Yesterday at 01:18:53 pm
Very sorry to see CS leave, he played well for us and would have been a key part of the team going into next season, his contributions will be both missed and tough to replace

Transfers of this type are becoming very common and we benefited form Hawkins last year

I give CS credit for finishing his undergraduate degree in three years and going on to get a graduate degree all while on scholarship, just wish he were staying at Fordham
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Not sure how people think this was a good season on: March 22, 2017, 11:54:26 am
I like Zarko for what he is, a player who tries really hard and finds ways to contribute to the team even if he is not a star

I hope that he will have time to work on his game, hopefully to improve his shooting and come back strong for his senior year

I always enjoy the reaction of the player he is guarding when they see the manic level of activity Zark has on defense, it would be great if he could stop everybody but that is not reality and he brings a nice change of pace on defense

If you understand what he is then I just don't get those who are killing him for not being a star
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: JOHN ANDARIESE FUNERAL RECOLLECTIONS on: March 22, 2017, 11:43:20 am
Joe,

Thank you for sharing with the board the details of the funeral

I did not know John personally but over the years through his public persona we all got to know something about the man and the impression I had was that that he was a very good announcer, loved Fordham and his family

Reading your post gave me a little more insight into what those who knew him best thought of him and it helped confirm and give depth to my opinion of John.

May he rest in peace

5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Not sure how people think this was a good season on: March 20, 2017, 01:48:45 pm
I agree with the thought this was a very mixed season full of more than the normal peaks and valleys of performance.

The won lost record was not good and the OOC performance still bothers me.  The conference season was better with some nice wins but did close on a low note.  The overall record could have shifted with a shot here or there and there was far less  of the feeling that we were outclassed as in past seasons.

In total the season was more difficult to characterize than in the past.  While the coaching staff turned things around in conference play they were very slow to get it going in the OOC

I thought heading into the season that losing two terrific players in Rhoomes and Thomas would be a challenge but that Hawkins would be a net positive, that proved to be correct and Hawkins did turn out to be a good player but like the coaching staff he took a while to get going. I will say that his combination of toughness, size, athleticism and ability to make a play at times is something we have been lacking at guard for a while and would love to see us recruit players of similar profile in the future

The injuries were a real problem and at the same time an opportunity.  We saw more promise in the freshman than I expected, it looks like Ohams (hopefully with adding a few more pounds of muscle) and Havsa can be players for us, in other years they would still be unknowns as sophomores. Slaninia is a bit older but looks like he can be a force and I really hope Hicks can be be as well.

Sengfelder found more of a groove this year and he is an easy player to root for, AA was terrific and maddening at the same time in most games, JC had a tough year with injuries and family concerns but he overcome his troubles for the most part. Bunting showed very well at the end after a rocky start, I hope he can continue to improve and earn time on the floor next year.

Going into next year, assuming all eligible players return, I have more confidence in the strength and depth of the roster than in many years.   There are still holes, especially with the lack of shooters, but replacing Hawkins while a challenge is less than the problem of replacing Rhoomes & Thomas

I really  like that the coaching staff has demonstrated that they can improve payers and adapt their system to fit the talent they have, they do need to recruit well but again this year's recruits did well when pressed.

I don't know what to expect next year but I do have hope and none of the abject worry that I had in seasons past

I think we are progressing but like any fan I would us to make progress twice as fast as we have

I have no objection to honoring Frank's family

As long as they call it Incompetence Family Court at the Rose Hill Gym

Thanks, alanccrx. Time and half too if you don't mind.

Should he pick up a coffee for you too? Wink

12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Athletic Department Topics / Re: Ask The AD with David Roach on: March 09, 2017, 12:13:15 pm
Unbelievable

Despite all of the negative comments here and the outrage of the fan base (we might be a fan website but we are the only Fordham fan website) over naming the RHG court in honor of a terrible AD, the administration has decided to publicize this effort and to actually label it as "McLaughlin Family Court to Herald Future of Fordham Athletics"

This is not heralding the future, this is honoring failure

I have no doubt Frank is a nice guy but this is just wrong
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Congrats to Jon Severe on: March 08, 2017, 10:21:29 am
One of many enigmas to pass through RHG.

Good luck to JS and the Gaels.

I think enigma describes him well

It is good to see that his time at Iona was more normal in BB terms than that at the RHG

I cannot say that I followed his time at Iona but good luck to him

Very strange game

14 minutes left and Ohams is our leading scorer, good for him but did not see that coming

The live feed announcer is I think trying out for the PA announcer slot
15  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham @ La Salle - 3/4, 2:00pm - Pre-Game/In-Game Thread on: March 04, 2017, 02:41:47 pm
Keeping my mouse on the mute button, that announcer would give aspirin a headache.

Yikes!

He is really bad

That was a tough loss

I kept saying to myself in the early first half that we could hold on and it was frustrating watching the lead slip away, even more frustrating to watch was our guys helpless against their zone

Havsa's 3's were great but it felt like they were wasted

On to the next game

Ha. If the collective voice on this forum had any say we would have fired all assistants by now and be searching for a new head coach to lead us into the Patriot League for games in the Kingsbridge Armory.

Well if that happens we should fire ourselves as fans
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham v. Saint Louis - 2/18, 2:00pm - Pre-Game/In-Game Thread on: February 20, 2017, 11:15:26 pm
I have seen potential in both Chuba and Havsa, it took a while for both the see the floor and and for the most part they have taken advantage of their playing time

Both are still raw but I do like that they both have confidence on the floor and don't have that deer in headlights look of many freshman

They each have a long way to go, especially offensively but each can make a pass and has done well the primary job JN has given them, Chuba on the boards and Havsa handling and passing

Can they shoot, who knows, but Chuba needs to learn how to defend without fouling, not uncommon for a 1st year big man

I expect both to be rotation players next year and hopefully to be starters by the time they are seniors

19  The Fordham Forums / All Other Fordham Rams' Sports / Re: women upset Dayton on: February 19, 2017, 05:28:03 pm
I only saw the last five minutes so there not much I can add to the analysis

It was an intense game and the team really closed it out calmly and hit their free throws

Terrific win after they hit a rough patch mid season

Looking forward to seeing them in A10 tournament
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham v. Saint Louis - 2/18, 2:00pm - Pre-Game/In-Game Thread on: February 18, 2017, 03:53:05 pm
A terrific win with a depleted roster

Tough defense and rebounding

Bunting played well again

Hawkins toughs it out with a bad knee and a good game

Havsa shows us something new every game, that bucket off the drive was out of control but impressive

AA was very calm and in control

Terrific two game run under tough circumstances

We may take out two coaches this year Hurley and Kellog. Living up to our reputation as a coach killer.  Cheesy

Funny that you point this out

I thought Hurley had been on a great trajectory but lately he has plateaued a bit, some of it was due to injuries but the expectation was he would make a good NCAA run, say round of 16 and then move on to a bigger job by now

Beating URI was sweet but given the roller coaster season we have had I don't see how we can take any game for granted, especially at home where we have been having trouble in conference

This looks like a tight game

An unexpected win on the road

Good stuff, just wish I saw or heard some of the game

What was the difference?

With all of our injuries it will be very tough for us to deal with their length and athleticism, some matchups are definetley not made in heaven

I would love to see us pull off an upset, but....

Nemanja had an injured hip that required surgery two weeks ago. He will recover.

Pekarek has had hip and groin issues. He may be back this season.

Thanks!

When was that arena a possibility?

Exactly, it is not as if Trump ever embraced Fordham

Yep, she decided to leave the team.  Steph must have read my comment and subsequently told me she did play defense, so my bad on that.

Usually, Suarez only got 3-4 minutes a game.

Thanks for the update

Shame that she left, she got minutes at Virginia and I thought she could do well at Fordahm

Best of luck to her
