Like the past two years, I am def interested.  I hope to make it, but I cannot commit until that week or the week prior.  My inlaws live out in suffolk county and a lot of it is contingent upon us being out there to visit them.
2  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Bryan Dunston $2.3mill contract on: May 31, 2017, 09:24:35 am
Good for him!  He and Bev had the best total careers of anyone I have watched play in RHG.

Did you ever see Jean Prioleau, he was special!

WHAT HAPPENED TO BASEBALL AT FORDHAM.  When I was a kid that team was a national power...Now they barely make the playoffs.  Was it the Patriot League move that killed them or getting rid of Gallagher?
5  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Memorial Field stadium on: May 15, 2017, 12:53:37 pm
as a joke.....

Fordham should take over this project and name it Frank McLaughlin field at JEff Gray stadium.

I grew up three block from this location in Pelham Manor.  My elitist, snob neighbors would NEVER let that much traffic come through their town.

Because the Xavier "model" gets brought up from time to time here it is. After going 22-8 in 1882-83 Xavier left dark, dank Schmidt Fieldhouse and moved two miles to Cincinnati Gardens where crowds were about the same as they went 22-11 but got larger and larger after they upset Ohio State in the first round of the NIT. By 1989-90 when they went 28-5 and made it to the Sweet Sixteen it became difficult to get a ticket and to visit the locker room it was now necessary to pass through a number of security personnel. They stayed in the Gardens for 17 years - most people don't realize that and believe it was a temporary move while a new arena was being built. At the Gardens they went 215-25 (.896%), had a trio of great coaches: Staak, Gillen & Prosser and some outstanding college stars and future pros. That's why students went to games and the Cintas Center got built.

The difference with xavier is that they are the only game in town...there is no PRO team.  They and the BEarcats are the only choices (and they are a good rivalry).  It isn't a realistic comparison...A better one would be depaul or st joes.

Class of: 2018
Fordham Prep High School - Rams
Bronx, NY

has offers from Brown, UMass     we are on his radar and vice versa

Saw this kid play and he reminds me of moorehead in a sense...he is very UNATHLETIC...He looks like he will fall over when he walks, but he can throw that bean around.  Mind you, I never saw moorhead in HS, basing it off what I saw at Fordham.

HE could revive BC if he wanted.

I ask purely out of curiosity, but what do struggling catholic schools like St. anthonys, rice, power. brooklyn prep, do to close that a school like regis does to stay open?  I mean regis covers the cost of every kid>  The costs must be astronomical.  I will hangup and listen.
13  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Fordham Basketball as a Brand on: April 04, 2017, 11:34:56 am
A) Complete the following sentence:
Fordham Basketball should most closely resemble: Saint Joseph's, Siena, Rider, but instead it resembles La Salle, Canisius, Sacred HEart
B) The consummate Fordham Basketball player can be described as (low DI Caliber)
C) If I could change one thing about the program, it would be... (the commitment to winning by the administration).
14  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Where have they really gone? on: April 03, 2017, 10:24:38 am
Wasn't there a Polish center who left with TBC and ended up at Kentucky.  Lucas Obrzut or something like that?  Did he get any run there?  I stopped following him after he wore the maroon.

Also, what about Adrian Walton?  Where did he go after Fordham?

I love Rice as much as the next person, but You're nuts not to have picked Madison Rowland from Queens College.  She is an All American, led the nation in steals (for the 4th straight year), averaged nearly 20 PPG, and became the schools all time leading scorer...also they made the final 8.

17  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Athletic Department Topics / Re: Ask The AD with David Roach on: March 11, 2017, 11:02:37 pm
The school just doesn't a s&^% about athletics.  Frank and O'Hare got us into the PL and McShane only cares about listening to himself talk.  THis is a disgrace...How have we not made improving facilities the TOP priority.  How hard is it for our marketing folks to do something as simple as a ticket that gets you into the game and a voucher for dinner at an arthur ave restaurant.  Say 40$ is for a game and dinner at ann and tony's...just an example.  Something like that might get folks there.

Also, how stuck on the past are we.  I like that fact that our gym is unique...but its also Old, TOO OLD.  There is no shame in leaving its bones intact while changing it around.  And our most successful male sport (softball has been better) plays their home games in the outfield of a baseball diamond.

Speaking of tradition and being stuck in the past...I know we have the winningest baseball program of all time (I think Alexander Cartwright got the game from us), but can we drop baseball already and repurpose the space.  Baseball provides nothing to the university.  Just my thoughts.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Moving forward 2017-18 on: March 11, 2017, 10:31:56 pm
I have to admit I followed the team from arm's length this season for a myriad of reasons (two kids under the age of five was the biggest...a lot of cartoons instead of hoops).  I think we need Slanina to take a big step forward.  With some work he could consistently be a 12 points, 8 rebound guy.  I know that a majority of the guys on the team "HATE" Neubauer.  Their words, not mine.  I dont know if/how that affects their play because I dont ask.  Id like to think they will play hard for each other, but Im not sure.  Also, we need something we haven't had ina  LONG time...a dependable shooter when the game is ont he line.  In the closing seconds of Mason, I couldn't think of anyone I KNEW would get the ball.  We need a Robin or a Prileau or a Stout.  A person who, when we needed a basket, wanted the ball and made the shot.

Looking forward to a good year next year!

The only people I think the court should be named for would be Anne Gregory or Johnny Bach.

21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: RHG renovations on: February 04, 2017, 12:36:06 pm
My fahter is a former dean at fordham who died this past November after serving the University for 42 years.  I know Frank pretty well (but no other members of his family).  I can say with certitude that Frank is a good man.  He cared about my dad until the end.  I can also say, as someone who has gone to Fordham games for 35 years, he did a lousy job as AD.  The two can be separate.  I am proud to know Frank, but dont think the court should be named after him.  He got a free house, free country club admission (which his family used generously) and free education as part of his benefit.

I too got free tuition at Fordham and paid for room and board.  I realize now much later, how much of a gift it was to be debt free as my wife just finished paying off her loans (two years early).  Yes Frank is a good man....No, he doesn't deserve to have the court named after him...How bout Dr. Dominic J. Balestra court at Rose Hill!!!!  JK

Does anyone else think 50 bucks is pricey?  I have a copy of the DVD they made a few backs about MAsellas team that won the Patriot League and that was amateurish and not worth 10 bucks.  Hope this is better.  Has anyone seen a preview?  How does it look?

LIstened early on via fuv then watched some of the 2nd half on tv til it got ugly.  Was it or were the FUVERS sycophants for the college?  They kept touting the crowd and atmosphere at the game...things like decent crowd considering the weather, the stand across are full adn they are into the game...who was there?  Was it like that?  I suspect not, but am curious.

an overachieveing team with a coach who has outcoached us for over a decade...will be competitive buts hawks pull away late and win by double-digits (11-13 range).
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Ideas to improve recruiting and development on: January 04, 2017, 01:24:21 pm
There would only be a benefit to dropping football if the resources were put toward the mortgage on new facilities.  Look at any local school that has dropped football in the past 10+ years.  Iona, St. Johns, St. Peters, Fairfield, and Hofstra (being the only scholarship program) have all remained, more or less, where they were before.

Actually, I will take you task with Hofstra....Since dropping football they have made strides in academics, introduced new programs and come a long way.
28  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Ideas to improve recruiting and development on: January 03, 2017, 10:50:29 am
Totally thinking outside the box here, and I am not sure where I come down on the issue, BUT

Would dropping football help basketball?  We spend a lot of money, time resources (see space) and personnel to have a successful football team and all we get out of it is an occasional post season appearance (though we've had success recently) and several crowded games at the outfield of out baseball field.  I don't think the athletic department has the wherewithal to use the money/facilities, etc that come from dropping football for basketball, I think it will get absorbed by the university.

I think it's a conversation worth seriously having.

30  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Visionary Jesuit Basketball Schools, in top 20 teams in USA on: December 22, 2016, 12:03:41 pm
Is it the Board, McShane, or Grank? I'm disappointed with the progress under McShane. No new colleges and 3-4 newish academic buildings. If you had to write a sentence or two about him, what would you say?

Id say:  He believes his own B.S.  and Dreamers aren't doers.
