If being the operative word. With a new arena, the word would be "when".
I dont see it as either/or or condition precedent or illusionary delusion or call it what you want. I see the new arena and improved won-lost record and top rated Division I recruiting wars as sort of all in the same goulash of "success." I dont see any reason they cant start planning the new arena (or resurrecting the old new plans) and keep working on improving the team, filling the RHG and so forth. In the interim, its an absolute necessity to fix the one bathroom embarrassment and disgusting food service at game time. Both of these are unacceptable. And I have said that to the powers that be, face to face.

Here is a link to a running blog that tracks tournaments and challenge games for 2013-14: http://www.bloggingthebracket.com/2012/12/7/3739262/2013-14-college-basketball-early-season-tournaments-events-MTETo date, 9 of 13 A-10 teams reportedly are committed to play in a tournament, including VCU (P.R. Tip-off), UMass (Charleston Classic), LaSalle (Paradise Jam), Richmond (Hall of Fame Tip-off), Dayton (Maui Invitational), St. Louis (Cancun Challenge), St. Joe's (Old Spice Classic), GWU (Wooden Legacy) and GMU (Diamond Head Classic). The 4 teams not yet committed are Fordham, URI, Duquesne and St. Bona. A number of tournaments still have openings, so it is conceivable that Fordham could show up in a tournament somewhere. I am serving this up for discussion of where you would like to see the good Rams play. away from the Bad Rams!

well we should definitely get Belmont Abbey back on the schedule so that our southern alums can go watch us there. Plus it's in N Carolina and near Charlotte and we all know how beautiful the place is. all good humor aside, Belmont Abbey is a gorgeous campus with a gym not unlike RHG. Its Division II and very competitive. I know some people there.....and have met the University President, who is a very conservative leader indeed. Dr, Theirfelder was born in New York and raised in the Bronx. He was an Olympic athlete, an NCAA All American, and a Division I coach. He is a sports psychologist as well as University President. Belmont Abbey established by the Benedictines who brought Catholicism to N.C. Id love Fordham to play Belmont Abbey.....but of course with Davidson in the A10 now, we have a chance to see the running Rams in these parts, hopefully very soon.

Their football is moving to the CAA. Clearly you did not read the article I linked.
Why would they move only football to the CAA and leave everything else in the America East? Its strange. I do agree with you that something is afoot with that..... Why are their other sports spurning the CAA?

The President's Committee has input on member selection for the A-10.
Wondering if Davidson is lobbying for College of Charleston - don't they have a bit of a rivalry?
They do. And CoC was courted by Davidson. But CoC has opted for another choice. I'm not hearing they are interested in the A10.

I am sure the A10 Commish asks the existing members opinion on who they favor to join the A10, when the time comes. What are the factors they consider? Scheduling, facilities, travel ease/expense, television market/revenues, rivalries, academics, reputation, replacement of departing insitutions, conference cohesion, and overall perception of fit. It might be a five minute phone call and off the cuff recommmendation, who knows? It might be a committee of eggheads pondering their navels.
My point is that we can all argue the points and counterpoints, and academic rankings, but in the end, its up to the Commish to extend the offer.
My opinion on what they will likely do? Siena. But I could be very wrong.

Yes sir, more of the same from the scab.
Haven't visited the board in a while. Now I remember why.
Boys we need to knock off the personal animus. Its unprofessional, uncalled for and a detriment to the board and Fordham. Criticize opinions. Not people in an uncivilized manner. Nobody here is perfect from what I can see here.....

CoC is not moving again. End of story. I cant speak for Siena. I also wonder aloud why everyone is almost pushing Dayton and SLU out the door with good wishes....figuratively speaking so the punctilious fundamentalist purist word analysts don't overreact, instead of encouraging them to stay. There is no guarantee the Catholic Seven will be successful. I hope both schools remain. Just sayin....

Are you sure the garden will be sro for a game that will be played at Barclays. . Rhg had 3000 last time we played Harvard and they could be ranked this year. No less than 3000 at rhg and likely a sell out. I misspoke. Big deal. So Barclays will be filled and RHG will be half full. When we played Harvard last they were ranked. Not sure that continues. And while I am hopeful for a big start this year....my comment was basically saying that the rabid BC fans/alumni will show up to the Barc and watch them play VCU.....and anyone in between will choose that game over the Fordham Harvard game. Just saying. Could I be wrong? Sure. Then I will shrug and get back to my regular life. You got one of those, counselor?

Just checked in here - the recruiting string is now on the Giants? As much as I love Big Blue, let's get this discussion back on track.
He said many things...and my point in referencing him was not to discuss the Giants and Tom Landry, but to discuss the attitude. Lombardi also said losing is contagious and that is MY point. Pecora working hard to turn that around and I get that and support it. Lombardi turned down by many schools....Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Fordham and basically every college he applied to, and many attribute that to his Italian heritage (at the time it was common to discriminate against Italian Americans.) His success in the NFL is because of his faith, his relentless work ethic and his infectious (I mean that in a positive tone) positive attitude. That is what I want for the Rams.

Siena would not be my first choice.
Doesnt make a lot of sense for the A10. Davidson a STELLAR academic school and replaces Charlotte who is leaving and is a small school, small gym. Seems to me A10 would be better suited with a marquee name and bigger school to replace Butler, X and Temple. Bringing in two small schools wouldnt make a lot of sense to me. I am delighted Davidson is here. Nothing against Siena, but I dont see the benefit to the A10.

I agree, I'd like to see Davidson in the Patriot for FB, but there is some FB history between the two schools. Fordham's first Div 1AA victory came against Davidson during the Dave Rice days. Perhaps a home and home series could be arranged. It would be a good regular match.
Totally agree. Bring it! I have HUGE respect for Davidson as a school.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Duke has no expectation that Parker will graduate, he will be gone after this year and they know it. Same with Austin Rivers, they knew he was one and done. Wake Forest is taking a guy from RMU with a sports management degree into a liberal studies graduate program (whatever that is), they could not care less if he graduates. Yale knew their hockey protege may leave for the NHL and did not care when he did.
Disagree. There have been some big examples like Chris Paul who left early before graduating. He had a legit hardship case. But overall, Wake tries hard to get kids to graduate. Even if that is in a graduate program for a 5th year of eligibility. I know the trend has been to let them go pro...and stop the charade of basket weaving courses and weak degrees. But there are still programs out there who do stress academics (besides Fordham). Tim Duncan stayed, finished, graduated and became an AllStar in the NBA.

The Great American Philosopher (sic) and former Yankee great Yogi Berra says: When you get to the Y in the road, take it! So it is with this topic and next years team. What is done is done and what is to be has yet to become. Onward and upwards.

I actually heard this last week but was sworn to secrecy. I am delighted. Great fit. Fabulous school and for purely selfish reasons I get to see the rams in Charlotte in coming years. Hopefully they schedule Davidson OOC this year to get started.
I would like to see them in the Patriot League in Football again, but that isnt happening from what I have heard.
Congrats to the A10 and Davidson. Welcome Wildcats!
