Fordham was in to see '18 Alan Griffin & '19 Joel Soriano from Archbishop Stepinac (NY) today.

Guard from Pa. or Tx.? Both?
3  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Football / Re: Army game on: September 01, 2017, 11:45:43 pm
Worst performance I have ever seen by a Fordham team not coached by Tom Pecora.

85, at least you never saw a Hal Wissel coached team.  Shocked
4  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Why the RHG is to be Named for McGlaughlin on: August 22, 2017, 08:04:32 pm

I love the comment to the article from one of Pecora's buddies.  Grin

Adrien Nunez seems to be leaning to St. Joe's but that could change as he receives bigger offers. Here is what he said about Fordham after his visit.

“They outlined my role clearly. The facilities were great and it’s close to home in New York, which is great. There’s a lot of opportunity to play on that team.”
6  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: San Jose State to hire Jean Prioleau as head coach on: August 12, 2017, 09:38:49 am

If the Fordham job opened up tomorrow, do you think he's going to apply?  Not a chance.  Why?  Because he knows San Jose is a better situation. Period.

Well then maybe you should take that wager with Rich.  Grin

I don't know if things at SJS basketball have improved since 2013, but this is from an article when Jean's predecessor was hired four years ago.

In some respects, Spartans basketball is in worse shape now than the football program was a few years ago.

The facilities are third-rate; the budget is minuscule; the roster is largely devoid of talent; and the competition is about to turn brutal with SJSU’s jump into the Mountain West Conference.

When Bleymaier dismissed longtime SJSU coach George Nessman last month and began his national search, Wojcik was on the shortlist.

“He’s been in programs where you had to build,” Bleymaier explained. “Then you couple that with his enthusiasm and energy.”

But energy alone won’t make SJSU a contender in the Mountain West. The Spartans are in desperate need of infrastructure upgrades.

The men’s basketball budget (approximately $1.4 million annually, according to Department of Education data) is one-third that of the top teams in the MWC. Nessman’s office was in a downtown parking garage. The program doesn’t have its own locker room or practice facility.

Incidentally, the news about Jean's new position has gotten much, much more attention on the Fordham board than on the San Jose State board.

By the way, does Jean read this board?
8  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: San Jose State to hire Jean Prioleau as head coach on: August 11, 2017, 08:45:45 pm

Some might be surprised by who he thanks.

"the bad coach"- I AM surprised. Jean said that Hill has been his mentor and close to him. Hill was the first coach to ever cut him (when he tried out for the Indiana Pacers) and the first coach to hire him as a coach (at Fordham).
9  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: San Jose State to hire Jean Prioleau as head coach on: August 11, 2017, 07:49:58 pm
My original post said San Jose State would be a step back from Fordham.  I stand by it.

Smart move, AOC. Don't make that wager.  Smiley
10  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: San Jose State to hire Jean Prioleau as head coach on: August 10, 2017, 09:14:25 pm
San Jose is better opportunity than Fordham.  That would be a step backward.

An Old Coach, I am guessing that you have not heard Jean's opinion on that.  Wink
11  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: San Jose State to hire Jean Prioleau as head coach on: August 05, 2017, 06:07:12 pm
This is great news. I am very happy for Jean.

I had contacted Jean and supported hiring him as our head coach but Roach would not even give him a serious interview. If he succeeds at San Jose, he will probably get better opportunities than Fordham.
12  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: July 20, 2017, 05:47:25 pm
Just a hunch, but if Hicks and JC are graduating, don't expect them to come back.  Few do these days in college basketball.

I agree. Hopefully, the staff is recruiting on the assumption that they will need to fill four spots (or five). From the looks of things, they are doing that this summer. They did not seem to take that approach last summer.

You want to see recruiting splash, go the signed recruits thread and watch the splashy video of Jake Fay signing his letter of intent. the Fay brothers were the worst tandem of recruits in Fordham history and were an outright fraud.

If we indeed want Josh Alexander, here is an opportunity for Mike DePaoli to show us something on the recruiting front.

2018 Josh Alexander is locked in for @ElevateHoops Summer Showdown on 7/21-23. Offers from Boston U, Howard, Towson, Columbia, Fordham
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/josh-alexander

6'8" from Carmel and attends Iona Prep. This is from Big East Recruiting last month.

The 6-foot-8 forward provides a tough, two-way presence on both ends of the court. He’s an aggressive player down low, banging his way for a finish around the rim. He also has great rebounding instincts and crashes the offensive glass well. Defensively, he’s a bruiser that isn’t afraid to play physically.

So far, he has a ton of low to mid-major Division I offers, with Fordham, American, Colgate, Columbia, Howard, Hampton, New Hampshire, Quinnipiac, St. Francis (Pa.), Stony Brook, Siena, and Towson in the mix.

He also has interest from other Ivy League schools such as Brown, Penn, and Yale. According to Alexander, a few Big East schools have also emerged—Georgetown and DePaul. It seems like St. John’s can add itself to the conversation.

Saglam was not on ship.  I'm guessing the Turkish guy is from Depaul is not listed yet either, which makes 13.

Correct. Ertan Gazi is not yet listed.
18  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Ivan Raut signs with Fordham on: July 11, 2017, 08:59:10 pm
Which would exceed 13 ships unless someone else is leaving.

I don't think they would have posted any player on the new roster if he was leaving.
19  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: July 11, 2017, 08:07:30 pm
2017 (MNE) F Ivan Raut has committed to Fordham. (HT @Eurohopes) http://verbalcommits.com/players/ivan-raut

This news probably deserves its own thread as we customarily do in order to welcome the new player to Fordham.
20  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Rothstein's A-10 Offseason Notebook on: July 10, 2017, 02:40:45 pm
On paper, I cannot disagree with this prediction. In addition to Rothstein, I recently saw two other predictions that had us last.
21  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Players I think we should look into. The Recruiting Speculation Game on: July 02, 2017, 10:07:40 pm
PG Damari Parris is transferring from Western Kentucky. We recruited him out of Evelyn Mack in NC where he was a prolific scorer prior to the WKU commitment. I think he needed a year to mature physically and did not live up to expectations in his frosh year. He was also hampered by a hand injury. He would need to sit a year and have thee years left. I think he could be a very nice player but I don't know if we have the luxury of being able to have another player sit out next year.
22  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: All time best Fordham Starting five / on: June 29, 2017, 05:26:41 pm
A player hardly ever mentioned is Bill Langheld, who was drafted by the Celtics.  He scored 44 against Manhattan in the Garden.  He never seemed to reach his full potential however.  Langheld graduated in '68.

Bill suffered a back injury in his frosh year and never fully recovered. Auerbach saw him play against BC at RHG and drafted him. He was the last man cut from the Celtics.

I was at that game but my father told me that Auerbach commented to Marty Glickman during the game-"I don't know who the hell this guy Langheld is but I like him."
23  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: DePaul transfer Erten Gazi has committed to Fordham, per a source. on: June 28, 2017, 08:05:51 am
Gaze is not one of them

That would suggest that someone is not returning.
24  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: DePaul transfer Erten Gazi has committed to Fordham, per a source. on: June 27, 2017, 04:53:44 pm
I've heard that the two Europeans are definitely coming but that they are definitely not bigs

Do you know if Gazi is one of the two Europeans? If not, two more scholarships would put us one over 13.
25  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: DePaul transfer Erten Gazi has committed to Fordham, per a source. on: June 26, 2017, 05:43:41 pm
Does he sit out a year?

It appears that he will need to sit a year and then have two years left. Listed as a 6'4" guard from Turkey. Seems to have played very sparingly for DePaul this past year.
26  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: June 17, 2017, 08:09:35 pm
Delante Jones to Seattle.

We must have backed away from him.  Wink
27  The Fordham Forums / Fordham Men's Basketball / Re: Recruiting Update on: June 17, 2017, 02:24:38 pm
Not sure, but going into a season with 10 players is risky to say the least.  Hopefully we find a couple ballers

And with three of the ten players coming off fairly serious injuries/surgeries.

Three days now since this post... Define soon? Anyone could've posted this comment. At least I learned about Seattle  Roll Eyes

Was the poster serious or just being a little sarcastic?

I don't recollect three overtimes.  Wasn't it just one overtime vs. Marquette?

Yes. And the Temple game was at RHG on a Saturday afternoon.
