Fordham Sailing’s regular fall season concluded on the weekend of November 12-13 with the Atlantic Coast Tournament and the Atlantic Coast Women’s Championship. Highlights include Fordham winning the Central Fall Open, finishing an excellent 4th place in MAISA Match Race Championship, 6th out of 16 teams in the Captain Hurst Bowl, and 8th out of 18th in the War Memorial.  And, at the Atlantic Coast Tournament, Fordham rolled out a brother-sister duo in the B division, with Anders Ekholm ’17 skippering with his sister, freshman crew Annika Ekholm ’20.
 
The team’s finishes in all of the recent regattas are as follows.  Please see below for a summary of each of the events:
 
I. Weekend of October 15-16—Yale Women’s (15th out of 18th place), Central Fall Open (1st out of 17th place), Captain Hurst Bowl (6th out of 16th place);
II. Weekend of October 22-23—MAISA Match Race Championship (4th out of 8th place), MAISA Women’s Fall Championship (7th out of 17th place);
III. Weekend of October 29-30—War Memorial Regatta (8th out of 18th place); and
IV. Weekend of November 12-13—Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship at Charleston (16th out of 18th place), Atlantic Coast Tournament at Navy (11th out of 19th place).
 
 

I.              Weekend of October 15-16:
 
Fordham participated in three events:
 
A.   Yale Women’s (15th out of 18th place), 
B.   Central Fall Open (1st out of 17th place), 
C.   Captain Hurst Bowl (6th out of 16th place). 
 
 
A.   Yale Women’s:
 

At Yale Women’s, Fordham came in 15th out of 18th place.  At this competitive event, Fordham was represented by skipper Addy Ferguson ’17 in A division and Lauren Holderman ’18 as crew.  Addy and Lauren finished in 11th place in A division.  They were tied for 10th with Coast Guard, but lost the tie breaker.  In B division, freshman skipper Grace Howie ’20 and crew Elizabeth Foulston ’17 finished in 17th place.

B.   Central Fall Open:
 
At Central Fall Open, Fordham won, finishing 1st of 17 teams!  In A division, freshman skipper Tucker Hersham’20 sailed with crew Emma Archard ’18.  Tucker and Emma came in 1st place in A division.  In B division, freshman skipper William Dumke ’20 and freshman crew Brigid Murphy ’20 came in 2nd place in B division.  Congratulations to Tucker, Emma, William, and Brigid on a job well done!

At the Captain Hurst Bowl at Dartmouth, a three-division regatta, Fordham came in 6th out of 16th place.  In A division, skipper Will Holz ’17 and crew Makena Masterson ’19 came in 10th place.  In B division, skipper Alec Tayler ’17 and crew K.J. Jones ’18 came in 6th place.  In C division, skipper Matt Cappetta ’19 and freshman crew Cortney Rielly ‘20 were tied for 4th place with Boston College, but lost the tie breaker and came in 5th place.

A.   MAISA Match Race Championship (4th out of 8th place),
B.   MAISA Women’s Fall Championship (7th out of 17th place).
 
 
A.   MAISA Match Race Championship:
 
At the MAISA Match Race Championship at Kings Point, Fordham came in 4th out of 8th place.  Fordham was represented by Will Holz ’17, Annika Ekholm ’20, Alec Tayler ’17, and Roberto Stevens ’19. A full round robin was completed.  HWS defeated Fordham 2-0 and Georgetown defeated KP 2-0.  A final series could not be sailed before sunset, and a tie breaking procedure had to be used to decide 1st through 4th places.  Hobart and Georgetown qualified for the National Championship.

At MAISA Women’s, sailed at Old Dominion, Fordham came in 7th out of 17th place.  A division was sailed by skipper Addy Ferguson ’17 and crew Lauren Holderman ’18.  Addy and Lauren finished A division in 8th place.  B division was sailed by freshman skipper Grace Howie ’20 and crew Elizabeth Foulston ’17, who tied with Georgetown for 5th, but lost the tie breaker and came in 6th place.

Fordham participated in the War Memorial Regatta at St. Mary’s, finishing a very competitive 8th out of 18 teams.
 
 
War Memorial Regatta:
 
The War Memorial Regatta, held at St. Mary’s, is the MAISA Fall Coed Dinghy Championship and a qualifying regatta for the Atlantic Coast Championship.  Fordham was represented in A division by skipper Will Holz ’17 and crews Makena Masterson ’19 and Charlotte Leclue ’19.  Will, Makena, and Charlotte finished A division in 8th place.  In B division, Fordham was represented by skipper Alec Tayler ’17 and crew K.J. Jones ’18.  Alec and K.J. finished B division in 7th place. 
 
Fordham did not qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship and will be participating in the Atlantic Coast Tournament, a consolation regatta for the teams in MAISA, NEISA & SAISA, which did not qualify for the Atlantic Coast Championship.

A.   Women’s Atlantic Coast Championship:
 
At Women’s ACCs, Fordham came in 16th out of 18th place.  In A division, skipper Addy Ferguson ’17 sailed with crew Lauren Holderman ’18 and came in 16th place.  In B division, freshman skipper Grace Howie ’20 sailed with crew Elizabeth Foulston ’17 and came in 17th out of 18th place.  Our Lady Rams scored as high as 1st, 2nd, and 4th place finishes at this competitive event.

At the Atlantic Coast Tournament at Navy, Fordham finished in 11th out of 19th place.  In A division, we had Matt Cappetta ’19 skippering with crew Makena Masterson ’19.  Matt and Makena finished A division in 8th place.  In B division, we had Anders Ekholm ’17 skippered with his sister, freshman crew Annika Ekholm ’20.  Anders and Annika finished B division in 12th place.
