Looking into the Maroon crystal ball, I see it all very clearly. We may be struggling, but we are way, way better than Bucknell. Rams 52, Bucks 10. Skelton gets carried off the field by his teammates as Rams fans storm the field after the big victory! Okay -- scratch that last part, but we are going to win...big.

Jimbo you make a great point FU and Bucknell very similar ,, both have padded wins against the scrubs of the northeast, I just meant Bucknell was much worse ,,,

Huge crowd at the game today- and in typical Fordham Fan fashion, it was pretty quiet. Offense was okay- despite the win and Skelton's stats, the running game of Bucknell picked us apart- but the Defense held.
Bookstore upheld it's history by having only 2 registers open with a line of 30-40 people lined up. At one point 1 cashier left for several minutes. Campus looked great
Lehigh will be very tough to beat next week.

We're not "way, way better" than anyone. We had clearly more talent than this Bucknell team but were very lucky to get by. With few exceptins, these players are in a fog, especially on defense. Next week should be interesting... |

Skelton was banged up and he did not look that aggressive out there. His stats were still pretty good. I think he and the rest of the team will step it up a notch next week and play to Lehigh's level.

Skelton always comes to play, no doubt. As for the rest of the team "stepping it up", I'm not sure how you can say that. So far this year they haven't.

I was just having a little fun, which should have been obvious from my post. Actually, 52-10 was one of my more conservative picks if you consider some of my past predictions. At the moment the only score that matters is 21-7.

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday's game. weather was perfect, crowd was large, many tailgaters and a very high % of attendees had on FU gear. From what I observed, no inappropriate behavior, no snafus caused by the administration. Friend of mine was quite impressed with the entire package particularly talking to an Alum from the late 40's early fifties who was captain on the fball team and is a member of the FU Hall of Fame. His grandson showed me his name in the program. Andy, sorry can't recall his last name, spoke of Lombardi etc. Really neat. If I understood him correctly, he started at Notre Dame, went to war and returned to Fordham to finish up.
Great day, am hoping for a repeat next week v. the chicken squawks.

One incongruity... At halftime a member of the track and field team was honored as the A-10 student athlete of the year. The presentation took place on the Patriot League symbol on the field.  As for the game, it was a good win, but Bucknell cannot throw the ball to save their lives. Made it much easier to contain them, and a couple of big fumbles on their part kept them out of the end zone after that first TD. |

Andy is Andy Lukac who was the captain of our 8-1 1950 team which was the last of our good big time teams. They beat the Ollie Matson, Geno Marchetti, Ed Brown, Bill Stanfill, Bob St Clair San Francisco club. Andy was a halfback out of the Pennsylvania coal country who first went to Frank Leahy's Notre Dame. After military service, he was told that the Bertelli, Lujack Irish wouldn't have a starting position for him he came to Fordham recruited by Lombardi. He played for Ed Danowski and assistant Lombardi at Fordham and against Lombardi when Earl Blaik brought him up the Hudson. An older brother of Andy's played for Temple in the thirties for of all people, Pop Warner. As a former Pop Warner player for the Greenpoint Crusaders (how many teams are called the Crusaders anymore?), that was astounding to me. Andy also revealed a very different side of Lombardi who before he went to St Francis Prep in Brooklyn had gone to Catheral Prep. it seems that the team went to Mass in Buffalo before a game against Canisius and nobody could find Lombardi until the Mass started and the priest came on to the altar with Lombardi in cassock serving as the altar boy.

 Not the high scoring blow-out many here predicted. I don't wish to sound negative, but I was just not impressed with what should have been a very easy win for the rams over Bucknell, while Lehigh played Holy Cross very close. I think it will be a close game next Saturday, but just don't know.....I saw some lack-luster playing last Saturday, with the same basic 5 plays that were to easy to read. Skelton has an arm, but didn't use it much: short, quick little passes. Why Masella likes running it up the middle where it was stopped dead by Bucknell each and every time I don't know. The game didn't come alive until the 4th quarter. It almost appeard to me like the team more or less have given up with only a handful of the best palyers giving their all. This was enforced by my nephew who went to a Marist game last month and felt the kids from the "lessor program" played better. The only good thing I saw from this game is that Masella broke his 0-3 run against Bucknell. Now we play for pride and I hope we bring our A game to Lehigh. The events were nice, the campus looked great, but only a few parents stayed for the Havest Fall events with line dancing. I just wish there was more spirit for these events, but over all it was a terrific weekend, a win over a PL rival and McShane was his witty and eloquent self.

 Do you know why Skelton went to short quick passes? Bucknell as all of our recent opponents start out with their corners 15 yards from the scrimmage. They don't want to let us beat them deep. Y ???ou take what thay give you.

Yea Skelton played great and under control, taking what the defense gave him. If he was not playing hurt, I think he would have been a little bit more aggressive and probably would have had some more rushing yards. It was clear he was playing hurt - he seemed to hobble when he had that one rush for like 12 yards when he ran out of bounds.
