We start off playing an exhibition game vs the Czech Republic at 11 am on 2/24.  This is at the ESPN complex at Disney World.

We follow that with a game vs now #3 Florida (#2 last year) at 3:30 pm.  Florida has been #1 but lost to Maryland.

On 2/25 we play Oakland (#270 last year) and Elon at 5:45 (#127 last year)

On 2/26 we finish up with Ga Southern (#108 last year) at 9 am.

The games will all be on WFUV, with Drew Casey behind the mike.  He usually posts on Twitter as well.  I haven't seen where they will be televised or if stats will be shown yet, I'll post the link if I find it.

Vs Florida, Drew Casey is broadcasting the game on WFUV  https://portal.stretchinternet.com/fordham/

Live Stats can be followed via the Gators' website at http://floridagators.com/schedule.aspx?path=softball#game_id_13113

Florida is just getting through playing Syracuse, winning 2-0, so our game will probably start 45-60 minutes late.   Florida had an 0.86 ERA before the Cuse game.  They were hitting .318 to opponents' .153; had 12 HRs to 0, and had 26 SBs to 2, getting 4 more steals vs Cuse.   Cuse got just as many hits as Florida, but gave up too many BBs.  We don't play them this year.

Quense, with a 1.11 ERA, is in the circle.  Gourley, a senior lefty with a 1.15 ERA is pitching for Florida.
Johnston is DP (hitting for Figueroa) and Shaw is at 1b.  Otherwise, the same lineup as usual.

We went down in order in the 1st, with 2 Ks.
Quense only gave up an infield single.  0-0 after 1.

We were retired in order in the 2nd, with Johnston just missing a HR.
Quense walked the leadoff hitter but got 2 Ks.  Florida got a SB.  0-0 after 2.

We went down in order in the 3rd. 1K and 2 weakly hit GBs.
Quense got 2 GB outs and a BB.  Figueroa made a diving catch in LF for out #3.  0-0 after 3.

Hughes got a single in the 4th but was caught stealing.
Quense got the Gators in order in the 4th.  0-0 after 4.

In the 5th, our 4-5-6 hitters went down in order with 2 Ks.
Quense got a K, gave up a LD single, got a GB force, and another K.  0-0 after 5.

We had 3Ks in the 6th.
Quense gave up a BB.. Florida got a SB.  A single scored a run.  That was followed by 2 more singles and a HR.  Florida up 4-0 after 6.

Canessa was HBP in the 7th but that was all that we got.  Rams lose 4-0.

We only got 1 hit (Hughes) and had 9 Ks.  Everyone had at least 1 except for Mayer.
Quense gave up 5 hits, had 4Ks and 3 BBs.

Here's the SID's report and the boxscore:  http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/2/24/softball-falls-to-3-florida.aspx?path=softball

We're 7-4 and next play Oakland tomorrow at 3:30.  So far as I know, Live Stats won't be available, only WFUV and Twitter coverage.

Despite being ranked #270 last year, Oakland is much better this year at 5-2, including having beaten UMass 2-1 and losing 1-0 to the Czech Republic team.  They don't have a good hitting team (.207), but have one very good pitcher in Senior Erin Kownacki (0.43 ERA).

WFUV, https://portal.stretchinternet.com/fordham/portal.htm?eventId=349593&streamType=audio however, has us first playing Elon at 4:25, not Oakland at 3:30 per our schedule.  Elon also has us playing them next too.  They also have a Live Stats link.  http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=168872  They are 7-4, having just gotten run-ruled 11-0 by Florida.  They split with Virginia and played North Carolina close.  They are in a tough conference with James Madison and Hofstra.

They have a .302 BA and 2.93 ERA.  They are a perfect 11-11 in SBs.

Quense is in the circle again today for the Rams, with the same lineup as vs Florida, except for Hughes being leadoff, switching with Van Hoven, and Mayer dropping to 6th.  Figueroa is hitting instead of Vergona.  Elon has their ace, Quinn, in the circle. (1.66 ERA)

Quense hit the first batter, who was sacrificed to 2nd.  A single scored a run.
Hughes drew a leadoff walk and stole 2b (5-6), out at 3b on a comebacker with no outs.  Baserunning error there.  Van Hoven stole 2b (7-7).  Canessa singled and moved to 2b on the throw.  Johnston K'd.  Shaw walked to load the bases.  Mayer grounded out.  Rams down 1-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense gave up a 2 out bunt single but Vergona threw her out, only the 2nd on 14 attempts this year.
Quense got a leadoff single and moved to 2b on a GB out and was stranded.  4 LOB so far.  Rams down 1-0 after 2.

Quense retired the side in order in the 3rd.  Figueroa made a diving catch in LF.
We had 3 GB outs.  Rams down 1-0 after 3.

In the 4th, Quense got a K, gave a pop up single, a double which scored a run, then a single, a K, her 4th, and a GB out.
Shaw, hitting .414, got a leadoff single.  Mayer hit into a force.  Quense walked, leading the team in that category.  Error on a Skrepenak fly ball to CF scored Shaw.  A Figueroa single scored the tying run.  She doesn't have power but is hitting .308.  Hughes walked to load the bases.  Van Hoven's single scored the go ahead run.  A Canessa double cleared the bases.  Jomp (6.75 ERA) in to pitch for Elon.  Canessa to 3b on a Johnston GB out.  Shaw K'd.  Rams up 6-2 after 4.  2 of our runs were unearned.

In the 5th, Aughinbauh (5.00 ERA) in to pitch for Quense.  She gave up a leadoff single, then got 3 GB outs.
Aughinbauh, who rarely hits, got a single with 1 out.  Skrepenak, hitting only 0.95, got a bunt single.  Figueroa reached on a FC, all runners safe.  Hughes hit a bases clearling triple and scored on a wild throw.  Rams win 10-2 via mercy rule.

Quense gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 4 innings, with 3 Ks and 1 BB.  Aughinbauh gave up 1 hit in 1 inning.
We got 9 hits, Canessa getting 2.  Hughes and Canessa each had 3 RBIs.

We're 8-4 and next play Oakland at about 6:40 pm.

The only coverage I've found vs Oakland is WFUV:  https://portal.stretchinternet.com/fordham/  No Live Stats.  Now set to start at 7:15 pm as they went into extra innings in their prior game with Morgan State.

Aughinbaugh is getting the start.  Kownacki. Oakland's ace, with a 0.43 ERA is in the circle for the Golden Grizzlies.

Rams up 2-0 after 2.  Aughinbaugh has retired the side in order both times.

We got 1 run on a Hughes single and steal and a Canessa single, her 4th RBI today.  The other we got on a Mayer single, sac bunt and a Figueroa single.  Prior to the last year or so, one would rarely see a sac bunt from a Bridget coached team.  We wouldn't even do it when using the international extra inning rule with a runner starting on 2b.

Both teams went down in order in the 3rd.  I can't post the rest of this one live.

Hughes singled in the 5th but got caught stealing.
Oakland got a baserunner on an error but that was it.  Rams up 2-0 after 5.

Aughinbagh gave up her first hit in the 6th but that was it.  Rams up 2-0 after 6.

Aughinbaugh threw a 1 hitter.  Canessa preserved it with a catch in the 7th crashing into the wall.  Rams win 2-0.  Are 9-4.

Here's the SID's recap:  http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/2/25/softball-sweeps-doubleheader-on-day-two-of-citrus-classic.aspx?path=softball

The next game is against a 7-6 Ga Southern team that has played some solid competition.  Our schedule says the game is at 9 am on Sunday, but Drew Casey on WFUV and the Ga Southern site have it at 11:45.  It looks like they will have Live Stats coverage at:  http://gseagles.com/schedule.aspx?path=softball#game_id_4891

Yes, thanks Joe.  I was trying to post from my phone while at a Billy Crystal live show and forgot our win count.  10-4 if you count the exhibition game win vs the Czech Republic, which is unofficial.

Hughes now leads in hitting, batting .400, with Shaw at .382, Canessa at .350, and Figueroa at .333.  As a team, we're at .270.

We have a 2.50 ERA, led by Quense's 1.75.  Stocks has a 2.90 and Aughinbaugh, a 3.62.

Our fielding, as expected, has improved to .967.

Georgia Southern, with a 7-6 record, have a .245 BA and a 4.61 ERA.  They have some power, but not a lot of speed and are shakey on defense.  Opponents have hit .285 against them and have stolen 26 of 27 bases.  Opponents have included ranked Tennessee and LSU, however.  They've won 4 games in this tournament, including a 3-0 win over Elon, and a 9-4 win over an always good Lehigh team.

GS made the NCAAs in 2012 and 2013.

Quense is in the circle for the Rams.  We have the same lineup as yesterday.  Raley, a sophomore, is pitching for GS.  She has a 3.27 ERA and was the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Year last year.

Quense retired the side in order in the 1st with 2 Ks.  She's starting off with better control than she had yesterday.
Hughes led off with a single, followed by a Van Hoven single.  They had a successful double steal.  Hughes was then thrown out at home on a Canessa GB to 3b, her 2nd similar baserunning error in 2 days.  (no outs)  2 LOB in scoring position.  0-0 after 1

Quense got a K and 2 GB outs in the 2nd.
Quense drew another team-leading walk.  With 2 out, GS brought in little used Heather Felt (10.50 ERA) for Raley, who must be injured.  Figueroa walked, then Hughes walked to load the bases.  Van Hoven reached on an error on SS.  2 runs scored.  Hughes was thrown out at home.  Rams up 2-0 after 2.

Quense gave up a walk in the 3rd, but that was it.  She got her 4th K.
Johnston got a single and Mayer singled to put runners on the corners.  Both were LOB.  That's 5 total LOB.  Rams up 2-0 after 3.

Quense retired the side in order in the 4th.  Van Hoven made a great defensive play on a deflected ball off Mayer to keep the no hitter in tact.
Figueroa singled.  (glad she's getting to hit now)  Hughes doubled.  Canessa's LD out to LF brought Figueroa home.  Canessa singled.  Johnston reached on an error, scoring Hughes.  2 LOB, 7 for the game.  Rams up 4-0 after 4.

With 1 out, Quense gave up a single in the 5th, her 1st hit.  She got 2 more Ks though.
Quense singled but was LOB, our 8th.  Rams up 4-0 after 5.

Stocks came in to pitch for Quense in the 6th and Trivelpiece went to RF for Skrepenak.  If Skrepenak doesn't start hitting (under .100 BA), she may get more time.  Stocks gave up a bunt single, but that was it.
Van Hoven drew a walk.  Canessa got an infield single.  New pitcher, Ramos for GS.  4.67 ERA.  Johnston walked to load the bases.  A Shaw infield single scored a run.  Mayer singled, scoring 2.  New pitcher, Camp for GS.  6.43 ERA.  Stocks, with only her 2nd AB all year, grounded out but moved the runners up.  A run ends the game via run rule.  But Trivelpiece popped up.  2 more LOB, making 10 for the game.  Rams up 7-0 after 6.

Stocks got them out in order in the 7th.

Rams win 7-0 and are now 10-4.  Quense and Stocks threw a 2 hitter, each giving up 1.  Quense went 5 innings, with 6 Ks and 1 BB.  Stocks went 2.

We had 11 hits.  Hughes, Canessa and Mayer each had 2.  Mayer had 2 RBIs.  3 of our runs were unearned.

Next week we head to NC State to play the host, Lehigh and Rutgers.

Here's the SID's recap:  http://fordhamsports.com/news/2017/2/26/softball-wraps-up-citrus-classic-with-win-over-georgia-southern.aspx

Won the games we should have and needed to win and played the nation's #3 team tough. The freshmen pitchers did well.

Yep, but have to get Quense and Skrepenak going on offense.  Johnston needs to hit better if she's in cleanup.  Shaw is a solid hitter but needs fewer Ks.  I like Bridget allowing Figueroa to hit instead of Vergona.  She's been excellent defensively in LF as well.

We have the potential to have one of our best records ever going into A10 play.

Solid, solid performance this weekend. Love the breadth the freshman pitchers are bringing--do not remember this much depth against solid teams. Also love the improved defense. As Txram said--this could easily be the best  record--keep the focus ladies and Go Rams.
