Please keep my friend and former business colleague John Andariese in your thoughts and prayers, as he is experiencing very serious health problems. John is one of Fordham's all time great players and a Xaverian HS alum who loves his alma mater. He and Marv Albert were one of the best broadcast teams in sports, whether the Knicks were winning or not. John was also a significant part of our successful lobbying effort to join the A-10 as one of our Rebounders Club Board members, and hosted our celebration event with Fr. O'Hare at Madison Square Garden that attracted over 500 Fordham alums.

A great person and a great Fordham man.

John actually went to and graduated from St. Michael's which closed and subsequently was replaced by Xaverian. His former St. Michael's teammate , Jim McMorrow , was the head coach at X for a number of years and John was a fixture at many games.

I have a to admit I shook my head reading Rambackers initial post.

By the way naming the court after Andaries is probably something people would get behind.

Agreed. Johnny Hoops Court.

Any other team wins the World Series, good for them. They're drinking champagne, they get a ring. But if we win, on our budget, with this team... we'll have changed the game. And that's what I want. I want it to mean something. - Moneyball

Agreed. Johnny Hoops Court.

I would think the money for that could be raised fairly easily.

RIP Johnny Hoops.  Got to meet you on the street once in NYC and you were more cordial and engaging than a fan could ever ask for.  And when I mentioned our Fordham connection, well.....thank's for everything John.

Many speak of Bob Shepherd as "the voice of their childhood" - I would say Andariese had that level of impact on mine.

All of the fierce Knicks teams of the 90s have his smooth reassuring voice in the backdrop. I can hear his calculated tone praising an outlet pass from Charles Oakley that leads to a 2-on-1 breakout layup. A Fordham fixture, his presence intertwined my childhood passion for both the Knicks and Rams.

I hope the aforementioned 'Johnny Hoops Court' suggestion takes consideration. None better.

PS - Classic shot from 1991 that I wanted to post.
Ace - can this be embedded?

Made his mark, had a long and lustrous career, then stepped away to spend time with the loving family he'd made. May we all do so well.

Godspeed, Johnny Hoops.

JA had a very good long range shot from either corner; today it's a 3 pt shot. He represented Fordham well in his entire career. A true FU guy. He deserves some recognition by his alma mater.

He carried himself with a great amount of class when he was on the air.  I don't remember him yelling or screaming.  Young, aspiring sportscasters would do well by emulating him.

John Andariese just got a shout out during the Kansas St. vs. Wake Forest game. They also mentioned that he was from Fordham, mentioned Vin Scully's retirement and Spero Dedes who is doing the games tomorrow.
