In 1994, the NCAA Women's Tournament expanded to 64 teams for the first time. Our Rams had a record of 21-8, 11-3 in the Patriot League, and were seeded #16 against the #1 seed Penn State with a record of 25-1, 16-2 in the Big Ten. I believe that Penn State was ranked #2 or #4 in the country.

Earlier in the season, my wife and I were awaiting a flight at Newark Airport, when about a dozen, very tall young ladies walked by in Maroon warm-ups. They were the Fordham Rams Women's Basketball team. We introduced ourselves and chatted with them for a while and they were a very articulate and poised group of young ladies. Neither of us had ever seen the Lady Rams, which is what they were known at the time, play. They were flying to an away game. We wished them well as we departed for our respective flights.

At the end of the regular season, when Fordham qualified for the NCAA Tournament and drew Penn State in the first game, we decided to drive to Happy Valley to see them play at 6:00 PM at night. I forgot what a long drive it was and after a stop for lunch and shopping at a mall along the way, we made it to our seats 15 minutes after Tip-off when the score was 16 - 0 Penn State, and the thousands of Nittany Lions overwhelmed the presence of about a dozen Fordham fans, who made the trip.

The final score was 91 - 41, a 50-point trouncing. The highlight of the evening was meeting Coach Joe Paterno, a Brooklyn Prep graduate,
who graciously went out of his way to stop and chat with our small group of fans during halftime.

Since then, I've probably seen about two dozen or so Fordham Women's games and our team is totally different in every way, all for the better, than it was 23 years ago. I have no idea how good Penn State is, but I'm confident that Coach will have the team well prepared to compete this Sunday and perform to the best of their ability. Having seen four or five games this season, I'm convinced that from the standpoint of giving their best, our gals will unquestionably win that battle, and perhaps the game.

GO RAMS!

Coach Steph said she has a virus.  Unsure yet if she can play.  With her height and versatility, we need her.  All the more impressive that we beat Georgetown without her.

Looks like streamed, for a fee.  Is also on WFUV, but I'm not getting Stats or WFUV as of 2:10 pm.

Thanks Txram. I thought the game was at 2 PM but WFUV isn't carrying it and I was unable to locate a streaming on the A-10 or Fordham sites. I'll keep trying.

Down 29-8. 3 to go in the 2nd.  We're about 4-30 from the floor.

Davis given a technical.  Is pretty frustrated.

We're coming alive right before half. Still a deep hole though.

Down 33-12 at the half.

PS shooting 46%.  Rams 6-32 (19%), 0-10 from 3.  Did not take a FT.  Steph needs to chew them out at the half like she did vs. Georgetown.

Down 55-32 after 3.

Davis now with 13 with 7/8 from the line.

Shooting 22% vs 56%, although we're controlling the boards 31-22.  17 on offense vs 4.

We're definitely playing better late. PS is just hitting everything, including contested shots. Not a whole lot you can do.

Rams lose 70-51 and wound up 22-12 for the year., the fourth most wins in program history.  Burns, Missry and Padovano, seniors, pulled with a minute to go.

Penn State is 16-1 at home this year.

Davis with her 24th double double.  She had 20 points and 15 boards.

Missry wound up with 12 and Kelly with 8.

We shot 26% to their 46%.  We outrebounded them 43-32, and 23-7 offensively.  We had 13 TOs to only 7 for PS.

The slow start hurt again.

We had our moments in the second half, but the first half was just brutal. Thanks to the seniors and for everyone for that matter. It was a fine year of basketball.

Especially happy to see Hannah end her Fordham career firing away - and hitting.
