The team visits Seton Hall on Tuesday at 4 pm.  The Pirates were ranked #183 in the latest RPI.  They have a 14-11 record, with some decent wins vs. Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pacific, and Villanova.

They are a good hitting team, batting .303, with good power and speed.  They have a fairly solid defense and pitching (3.99 overall ERA).  Three players just about split time in the circle evenly.  Their best has a 2.71 ERA and a 1.4 WHIP.

This won't be another Rhode Island-type challenge and should be quality competition after a lopsided 3-game weekend.

At the moment, we show no game coverage listed on our site, but the Pirates' schedule site shows that there will be Live Stats available.  http://www.shupirates.com/schedule.aspx?path=softball

The SID published a story with links as to coverage of the Seton Hall game Tuesday and the Stony Brook game Wednesday.  http://fordhamsports.com/news/2017/3/27/softball-to-play-two-nonconference-games-tuesday-and-wednesday.aspx

It also has some interesting stats as to where we rank nationally in various categories.

Today's game vs Seton Hall has been canceled due to rain.
It has been moved over to Wed after the Stony Brook Game, which starts at 2.  So it'll be a home game at around 4:30.

Quense will start in the circle for this one.  We have the same lineup, except Shaw is at 1b and Johnston is DH for Vergona.  Strunk (4.76 ERA) is pitching for the Pirates.

We are home team despite the game having been moved from Seton Hall to Bahoshy.

In the top of the 1st, Quense was a little wild but retired the side in order.
In our half, Hughes singled but was caught stealing.  Canessa flied out.  Van Hoven grounded out.  0-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense gave up a single down the LF line, thanks to Figueroa's speed and strong throw keeping it to one base.  Mayer got a force out on a sac bunt attempt.  Quense got a K and a pop up.
In the bottom half, Shaw flied out to deep Cf.  Mayer doubled to CF.  Quense and Johnston grounded out.  0-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Quense got a K, gave up a bunt single, got a pop up, gave up an infield single off her glove, and a pop up.  She still struggled with her control.
In our half, Skrepenak popped up.  Figueroa flied out.  Hughes singled up the middle.  Canessa singled to CF.  Van Hoven grounded into a force.  0-0 after 3.

Somewhat oddly, Aughinbaugh in to pitch for Quense.  She gave up a leadoff single.  Runner stole 2b.  Aughinbaugh then got 3 pop ups.
In our half of the 4th, Shaw called out on a check swing.  Bad call.  Mayer singled.  Aughinbaugh hit into a force.  Johnston doubled to RF, scoring a run.  She moved to 3b on the throw.  Skrepenak doubled home another run.  Figueroa singled home a run.  New pitcher for SH, Head (4.82 ERA).  Hughes gounded out.  Rams up 3-0  after 4.

In the top of the 5th vs Seton Hall, Aughinbaugh got 2 comebackers and a bunt out.
In the bottom half, Canessa singled and stole 2b.  Van Hoven singled Canessa to 3b and stole 2b herself.  Shaw singled and 2 runs scored.  Mayer singled.  Aughinbaugh grounded into a force.  Johnston grounded into a force.  Skrepenak grounded out.  Rams up 5-0 after 5.

In the 6th, Aughinbaugh got a K, gave up a single, got a GB force, gave up another single, then got help from Canessa on a great catch in CF, which could have been a HR.
In our half, Figueroa reached on a 2b error.  Hughes flied out.  Canessa got an infield single.  Van Hoven grounded into a force but Canessa advanced to 3b.  Shaw walked to load the bases.  Mayer flied out.  Rams lead 5-0 after 6.

In the 7th, Stocks for Aughinbaugh in the circle.  She got a K, a fly out, and a K.

Rams win 5-0.  Go to 25-7 and have had 5 shutouts in the last 5 games, a new program record.  They've won by a combined 52-0.
We got 13 hits.  Canessa and Mayer had 3; Hughes had 2.  Shaw had 2 RBI's and now has 41.

Quense only went 3 innings.  Hopefully she is ok.  She was ill last weekend.

We play St. Joe's next this coming weekend, starting with a double header on Saturday at noon.

Here's the SID's write up and box score of the two games, Stony Brook and Seton Hall:  http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/3/29/softball-shutout-stony-brook-and-seton-hall-in-nonconference-doubleheader.aspx?path=softball

We had 7 stolen bases today and are now 60/67 on the year vs opponents' 20/23.  This is a long way from Bridget's former all-power, no speed teams.  We also have 33 HRs vs opponents' 10.

The bad news was that Quense left the game "due to injury", which may be why she had control problems.  We need her healthy vs St. Joe's this weekend.
