We play a game Saturday starting at 1 pm and a double header Sunday starting at noon.  http://www.fordhamsports.com/schedule.aspx?path=softball   The double header was switched to Sunday due to the weather.

St. Joe's beat us in the playoffs last year and we had to beat them twice in the finals to win the championship, the first game going to extra innings.

They are 8-16, 2-1 this year and have been all over the place as to performance.  Their RPI is at #201 but they gave #17 James Madison a good game and lost a close one to #23 Wisconsin.  Their two A10 wins were against #177 St. Louis.

They hit .255 as a team, don't have a lot of power, but their two best hitters have good speed.  They are a little weak defensively.

They have decent pitching, coached by former Ram All-American Jen Mineau.  Their ERA is 3.36 and WHIP is 1.5.

Head Coach Terri Adams is a former Rams Assistant Coach.  Our senior 3b, Lindsey Mayer's sister plays 2b for the Hawks.

I haven't heard yet if Lauren Quense has recovered enough to pitch/play this weekend for us.  The cold may have negatively affected her arm and it was better to rest her.

Bridget is going for her 700th career coaching win.

Here's the SID's pregame write up:  http://fordhamsports.com/news/2017/3/31/softball-continues-a-10-play-by-welcoming-saint-josephs-to-bahoshy-field.aspx

New lineup.  Van Hoven isn't playing (bad leg injury per announcers) so Mayer is playing SS instead of 3b.  Johnston is at 3b, Shaw at 1b, and Aughinbaugh is DH for Vergona.  Quense is pitching.  Missing Van Hoven isn't good. (.353 hitter, 20/20 in SBs, and strong SS)  Ventura is pitching for SJU. (2.44 ERA and 2:1 K:BB ratio)  It's a cold, windy day.  Soft batter's box from the rain.

Quense walked a batter but otherwise retired the side in the 1st, getting one K.
In our half, Hughes K'd looking.  Canessa walked and stole 2b.  Shaw walked.  Mayer popped up.  Quense K'd.  0-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense gave up a bloop single.  WP/PB moved the runner up.  GB moved the runner to 3b.  2 pop ups killed the threat.
In the bottom half, Aughinbaugh singled to RF.  Johnston popped up.  Aughinbaugh was caught stealing.  Bad call.  Skrepenak K'd.  0-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Quense retired the side in order getting 2 Ks.
In the bottom half, Figueroa and Hughes grounded out.  Canessa walked.  WP moved her to 2b.  Shaw flied out.  0-0 after 3.

In the 4th, Quense got a GB out, a fly out, and a foul pop.
In our half of the 4th, Mayer walked.  Quense was HBP.  Aughinbaugh laid down a perfect sac bunt and as safe to load the bases with no outs.  Johnston grounded into a force at home.  Skrepenak popped up.  Figueroa lined out to SS.  3 LOB.  That hurt.  0-0 after 4.

In the 5th, Quense got 2 Ks and a fly out.
In the bottom half, Hughes flied out.  Canesa lined out to LF.  Shaw walked.  Mayer lined out to RF.  0-0 after 5.

In the top of the 6th, Quense got a GB out, a bunt out, and her 6th K.
In our half, Quense K'd, unfortunately a stat she leads the team in.  Aughinbaugh popped up.  Johnston grounded out.  0-0 after 6.

In the 7th, Quense got a fly out, a GB out, (SJU's Mayer grounding out to her older sister), gave up a single, and got a comebacker.
In the bottom half, Skrepenak K'd.  Figueroa singled.  Good play to hold her to one.  Hughes flied out.  Canessa popped up.  0-0 after 7.

In the 8th, Quense got a K, gave up a double as Figueroa misplayed a fly ball, then a HR, which is hard to do in this wind.  That was the #8 and #9 hitters.  She then got a comebacker, gave up a walk, a single, and a FC safe play, loading the bases.  Figueroa had a diving catch for out #3.
In the bottom of the 8th, Shaw flied out.  Nice catch by CF-er.  Mayer flied out as well.  Quense grounded out.

Rams lose 2-0 in 8 innings.  We're now 25-8, 3-1.  Tied now with SJU and George Mason.  SJU always plays us tough.  With Van Hoven out and maybe for quite a while, we certainly were not going to go undefeated.

We only got 3 hits.  Quense gave up 5 hits, had 7 Ks and 2 BBs.  Remember, she has a sore arm and the cold weather doesn't help any.

Here's the SID's write up and box score:  http://fordhamsports.com/news/2017/4/1/softball-falls-in-extras-to-saint-joseph-s.aspx

In game 2 vs St. Joe's, Aughinbaugh is in the circle.  The lineup is without Van Hoven, who may be out for a while with the leg injury.  That's a major loss, as we saw yesterday when we couldn't get our bats going.  Defense will probably suffer some too, along with steals.  Shaw is at 3b, Quense 1b, Trivelpiece is in RF.  No DP.
Clarke (4.55 ERA) is in the circle for SJU.  She gave us fits last year.

In the 1st, Aughinbaugh retired the side in order, getting 1 K.
In the bottom half, Hughes got an infield single. Aughinbaugh sacrificed her to 2b.  Canessa got a bunt single and stole 2b.  Shaw lined out back to Clarke.  Mayer was walked, almost intentionally.  Quense K'd with the bases loaded.  0-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Auginbaugh got a fly out, a comebacker, gave up a bloop single, and got a pop up.
In our half, Trivelpiece singled.  Vergona hit into a force.  Figueroa reached on a throwing error. Trivelpiece to 3b.  Hughes doubled home a run.  Aughinbaugh lined out back to Clarke.  Canessa singled home 2 runs and stole 2b again. (7/7)  Shaw just missed a HR, foul, then singled home Canessa.  New pitcher, Stokes (2.74 ERA) for SJU.  Mayer lined out to LF.  Rams up 4-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Aughinbaugh got a fly out, a pop up, and a GB out.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Quense dribbled one back to Stokes,  Trivelpiece walked and was caught stealing.  Vergona walked.  Figueroa singled.  Hughes walked to load the bases.  Aughinbaugh got an infield single, scoring a run.  Canessa lined out softly to 1b.  Rams up 5-0 after 3 but have left 7 on base.

In the 4th, Aughinbaugh gave up an infield single, got 2 GB outs, and a K.
In the bottom half, Shaw grounded out.  Mayer K'd.  Funny, Jen Mineau is calling a lot of changeups for SJU when she never had one, as great as she was.  Quense walked.  Trivelpiece flied out.  Rams lead 5-0 after 4, with 8 now having been LOB.

In the 5th, Aughinbaugh got a K, her 3rd, got a fly out, and another K.
In the bottom of the 5th, Vergona grounded out.  Figueroa walked.  Hughes K'd.  Aughinbaugh grounded into a force.  Rams up 5-0 after 5 with 9 now LOB.

In the 6th, Aughinbaugh got her 5th K, got a comebacker, gave up her 1st walk, runner stole 2b, and her 6th K.
In our half, Canessa was HBP.  New pitcher, Stroud (4.67 ERA) for SJU.  Shaw singled.  An error on RF scored a run with Shaw moving to 3b.  Mayer grounded out but scored Shaw.  Johnston PH for Quense and reached on a throwing error.  Trivelpiece walked.  Vergona walked to load the bases.  Figueroa hit into a force at home.  Hughes walked home the winning run but Figueroa never touched 2b so was called out, despite the home plate ump signaling the game was over.  Bridget was livid.  That would have been the winning run via run rule.  Rams up 7-0 and now must go to the 7th.

In the 7th, Stocks in to pitch for Aughinbaugh, who moved to RF.  Johnston is playing 3b.  She gave up a leadoff single, got a K, a popup and a gorund out.

Rams win 7-0.  That was Bridget's 700th career coaching win.  129 wins at Cabrini College and 571 at Fordham.

We got 9 hits.  Hughes, Canessa and Shaw each had 2.  Canessa and Shaw each had 2 RBI's.

Aughinbaugh gave up 2 hits, had 6 Ks and 1 BB.  Stocks gave up 1 hit and had 1 K.

We're 26-8, 4-1.  The next game should start at about 2:30.

In game 3, Quense is in the circle.  Same batting order as game 2 but Aughinbaugh is DP for Skrepenak (RF).  Shaw is 1b and Johnston is 3b.
Ventura, who shut us out yesterday, is pitching for SJU.  (2.22 ERA)

In the 1st, Quense walked the leadoff batter, who stole 2b.  Runners are now 22/25 against Vergona.  A sac bunt moved the runner to 3b.  A single scored a run.  She then got a fly out and a GB out.
In the bottom half, Hughes popped up foul.  Aughinbaugh grounded on.  Nice play by 3b.  Canessa walked.  Shaw singled Canessa to 3b.  Mayer popped up.  2 LOB.  Rams down 1-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense got 2 GB outs, gave up a single, Mayer dropped a pop fly, but Figueroa caught a fly ball for out #3.  Mayer, usually at 3b, isn't used to playing SS and doesn't move like Van Hoven does SS.
In our half, Quense K'd looking.  Johnston walked.  Vergona K'd looking.  Figueroa got n infield single.  Hughes lined one off the SS's glove for a single.  Bases loaded.  Aughinbaugh grounded out.  3 LOB, 5 total.  Rams down 1-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Quense gave up a bloop leadoff single, got a force, then a GB DP.  Mayer got her sister on that one.
In the bottom half, Canessa reached on an error by LF and made it to 2b.  Shaw popped up.  Mayer lined out to 3b.  Quense singled past 3b.  Canessa to 3b.  Johnston hit into a force.  2 LOB, 7 total.  Rams down 1-0 after 3.

In the 4th, Quense gave up a leadoff double past a diving Canessa in CF.  A sac bunt moved the runner to 3b.  A bloop single scored a run.  Quense got a K and a GB out.
In our half, Trivelpiece PH for Vergona and grounded out.  Figueroa K'd.  Hughes K'd.  Rams down 2-0 after 4.

In the 5th, Quense gave up an infield single.  Vergona threw the runner out.  Quense got a GB out, gave up a single, and a fly out.
In the bottom of the 5th, Aughinbaugh was out on a bunt.  Canessa doubled.  Shaw K'd.  Mayer K'd looking.  Rams down 2-0 after 5.

In the 6th, Quense got 2 fly outs and a GB out.
In the bottom of the 6th, Quense grounded out.  Johnston singled.  Vergona singled.  Figueroa hit a comebacker and the pitcher threw it away toward 3b.  Run scored.  Runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Hughes singled to tie the game then stole 2b.  Aughinbaugh K'd.  Canessa lined out to SS.  2 more LOB, 10 total.  Game tied at 2 after 6.

In the 7th, Aughinbaugh in to pitch for Quense, who moved to 1b and Shaw to 3b.  Aughinbaugh got a foul fly out, Shaw made an error at 3b, got a GB force, gave up a single, and a fly out.
In our half, Shaw singled on an 3-0 count.  Mayer laid down a surprising sac bunt.  Quense was HBP.  Skrepenak hit into a force then stole 2b.  Shaw to 3b.  Vergona K'd, our 7th.  2 LOB, 12 total.  Game tied at 2 after 7.

In the top of the 8th in game 3, Aughinbaugh got a GB out, Mayer getting her sister, then another GB out, and a foul pop.
In the bottom half, Figueroa grounded out.  Hughes walked.  Aughinbaugh lined out to LF.  Diving catch made.  Canessa flied out.  Game tied at 2 after 8.

In the 9th, Aughinbaugh gave up a leadoff single. A sac bunt moved the runner up.  She hit a batter, then booted a comebacker to load the bases.  She came back with a K, then got out of it thanks to a diving catch by Canessa in CF.
In our half, Shaw singled.  Mayer flied out and didn't try a sac bunt.  That's the old Bridget philosophy coming out.  Quense and Skrepenak popped up.
2-2 after 9.

In the 10th, Aughinbaugh got a fly out, then gave up a HR, that player's 1st HR this year.  She then got 2 GB outs.
In the bottom half, Vergona was called out on strikes.  Figueroa singled.  Jess Hughes hit a walkoff HR.  She hurt herself running the bases in the 8th and was almost pulled.  That was her 8th HR this year, after only 3 last year.  She's hitting .440 with a ,857 slugging pctg and is in the running for A10 POY after being A10 ROY last year.

Rams win 4-3 in 10 innings.

We got 13 hits.  Shaw got 3 and Hughes got 3.  Hughes had 3 RBI's.  We had 9 Ks.  I've never seen us take so many called strikes.  SJU's Ventura was not overpowering, but hit her spots and had a good game called for her by Jen Minueau.  She threw over 200 pitches.

Quense went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, with 1 K and 1 BB.  Not her typical outing.  Aughinbaugh went 4 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 1 K.

We're 27-8, 5-1 and next play George Mason in VA next weekend.

Note:  Amy Van Hoven showed up with a cast on her right leg and on crutches, so she could be out for much of the rest of the year.  The game would not have gone to extra innings with her in the lineup.  That's a huge loss.  Somebody has to start showing up with their bat to help fill the gap.

Here's an interview with Bridget and freshman pitcher Madie Aughinbaugh:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEL1D9rF6M4&feature=youtu.be

I'm not sure I heard Ryan mention Bridget's 700th win though.
