We play George Washington for a DH at home starting Saturday at noon, and a final game Sunday at 1:00.

We're tied for 3rd with Dayton at 10-4 so the series with them next weekend is pretty crucial.  SJU is 9-3 and UMass is 8-3.

GW is 23-19, 6-8 and have a current #201 RPI.  They have a new HC, who came from Mercer, but who had been an Assoc HC at LSU for 7 years, so he has strong credentials.

They have a national freshman of the year candidate in Jenna Cone, who is third in the A10 in BA at .403 and has already set the school HR record with 17.  She is out of CA and has an older sister on the team.  They have more power too as they are 1-2 in the A10 in doubles while hitting .313 as a team,  tops in the A10.  They are well-rounded, having swiped an impressive 65 of 71 bases.

Their best pitcher is Junior Sarah Costlow, who has a 2.54 ERA and about a 1.3 WHIP.  She doesn't get a lot of K's, but has a .243 BA against.  We beat her 3-1 last year, getting only 6 hits but also 6 walks.

With their fielding at a good .965 and pitching at a 3.52 ERA, one wonders how they can be a sub-.500 A10 team at the moment.  Their biggest relative weakness might be their control in the circle, having given up a lot of BBs and HBPs.  They got swept by Dayton, lost 2 to UMass and 2 to St. Louis and were run-ruled once by the former and the latter.

Here's the SID's pregame write up.  Check out the various rankings in the article.  Ryan Uhlich does a great job at doing the research and keeping those up to date.  http://fordhamsports.com/news/2017/4/21/softball-hosts-george-washington-this-weekend.aspx

I think we'll have Figueroa back in LF this weekend after being out for about 10 days with a freak injury.  Van Hoven won't be back yet, however.  From her not being pinch run for vs the Bonnies, I suspect Quense is near 100% at least as to one of her injuries.

As mentioned previously, I probably can't cover any of these games as I'll probably be losing my butt at the tables in Vegas, or on the lanes in the Open Tournament.

Rams won game one 8-3. Game 2 has been moved to tomorrow when we'll play a doubleheader starting at 10 am.

Figueroa didn't play in game 1 and won't play tomorrow.  She's not 100% yet.  Per the announcers, so I can now be specific, she has a concussion.  She was hit in the head by a ball pre-game vs Lehigh (?)  I expect she'll be back for the Dayton series next weekend however.  I don't think Van Hoven will be back by then.

Quense pitched, Shaw at 1b, Storm at 2b, Hughes at SS and Mayer at 3b.  Skrepenak in for Figueroa in LF.

In game 1, we got 12 hits. Hughes had 3; Canessa and Johnston had 2.  The latter 2 along with Quense had 2 RBIs.  Canessa had a HR.  Shaw had 2 BBs.  Hughes had 2 doubles and Shaw had 1.  We had 13 LOB.  Canessa, Mayer and Aughinbaugh had SBs.  Johnston is coming around with her bat and came in as a highly touted hitter as a freshman this year.  Vergona, getting more ABs with Figueroa out, has upped her BA to .259 after bordering on the "Mendoza line" for much of the year and often being DH'd for.  The one we need to get going is Skrepenak , who is at .185 and who only hit .200 last year.

Quense gave up 3 runs on 3 hits (2 of which were doubles) with 2 BBs and 4 Ks.  2/3 of her outs were GBs, which usually means that she's on her game.  GW had the best hitting team in the A10 and Quense held them to just 3 hits.

Storm had the error at 2b.

Costlow didn't pitch for GW in this one and Quense held Cone hitless.

We're 35-12, 11-4.

SJU is playing UMass this weekend and UMass beat them 1-0 in game 1, giving us 2nd place in the A10.  SJU was in first at 9-3, we're at 11-4, UMass is at 8-3, Dayton 11-5.  We could possibly be back in 1st after this weekend, despite the injuries and illnesses that have plagued us, setting up the critical Flyers series next weekend.  UMass and Dayton then have to lay the last weekend of the year, while we get a much easier LaSalle team.

In game 2, Aughinbaugh is in the circle vs Costlow.  Quense is DP instead of Johnston, who is out sick.  Vergona moved up in the lineup to #5.

The game is tied at 1 after 4.  We've had 7 LOB.  Hughes has 3 BBs and Shaw has 2.

In the top of the 5th, Aughinbaugh gave up a single.  A rare illegal pitch was called to advance the runner.  Bridget came out to argue and that rarely happens as well.  A single scored a run, putting the Colonials up 2-1.
In the bottom half, Shaw led off with a single.  Vergona K'd.  Aughinbaugh's sac bunt wound up being a force.  Aughinbaugh stole 2b.  Storm popped up.  Rams down 2-1 after 5.

In the top of the 6th, Aughinbaugh gave up a HR to someone who hadn't had a HR this year.  Hughes followed with an error at SS.  Aughinbaugh then gave up a double before a comebacker ended it.
In the bottom half, Quense popped up, Skrepenak grounded out.  Canessa popped up.  Rams down 3-1 after 6.

In the top of the 7th, Aughinbaugh, Trivelpiece made a 2-bases error in LF where Figeuroa normally plays.  A WP moved the runner to 3b.  A CF HR to their best hitter, Cone, made it 5-1.  That was Cone's 18th HR this year.  Mayer made an error at 3b, our 3rd E this game.  A K ended it.
I can't finish coverage on this one, but it doesn't look good being down 5-1.   A loss puts us at 35-13, 11-5 and now a long shot to finish in first.

Rams up 9-0 in game 3 after 3.  Johnston is playing DP in this one and has singled and doubled twice.  Canessa hit a HR and Mayer has doubled.  Quense is in the circle.  No hits thru 3.

Quense gave up a walk and a single in the 4th but no runs.
In our half, Skrepenak hit a HR.  Canessa walked.  Hughes homered.  Rams up 12-0 after 4.

Stocks in to pitch for Quense in the 5th.  Hughes made an error gain at SS, where she's not used to playing.  A fly ball to Aughinbaugh in RF doubled the runner off 1b.  Stocks ended it with a K.

Rams win via mercy rule 12-0.  Quense gave up 1 hit and 1 BB, with 2 Ks.
We had 10 hits.  Johnston had 3 and Storm had 2.  Canessa, Skrepenak and Hughes had HRs.  Canessa scored her 182nd career run, a program record.  She also got her 100th career walk, the third Ram to do so.

We had 2 errors in this one both by Hughes at SS, 5 total for the day and 6 for the series.   It sure will be good to have our regular lineup back in place, even if one by one.

Here's the SID's write up and box scores of the two games.  http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/4/23/softball-splits-sunday-doubleheader-takes-series-vs-george-washington.aspx?path=softball

Here's the video highlights:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_04qXVNFHc&feature=youtu.be

We go to 36-13, 12-5.  SJU lost 2 to UMass, who leapfrogged into 1st place.  Their third game in Philly was cancelled.  Dayton got upset by URI.
The standings are UMass 10-3, Fordham 12-5, Dayton 11-6, George Mason 11-6, SJU 9-5, SLU 7-9, GW 7-10, LaSalle 5-9, URI 5-12, St.Bonaventure 1-13.

UMass plays LaSalle next weekend, which should be 3 wins. We play Dayton.  The last weekend we play LaSalle and UMass plays Dayton, while George Mason plays SJU.

TxRam - do you think we can make the NCAA tournament without winning the A 10 tournament?

Interested in TXRam's take but I think we have to have 45+ wins and make it to the finals for consideration as an at large bid.

I too would be interested in TXRam's take.  Fordham currently has 36 wins, a .735 winning percentage and an RPI of 52, which IMO is good.  There are only 13 teams with higher RPI's and more W's than Fordham.  The problem is that no other A-10 school has an RPI in the top 100.  UMass is at 125 and GW is next at 165.

Nothing can be taken for granted.  If they keep on winning, the Rams control their own destiny.

You made a key point about the A10 RPI.  If we lose any more regular league games (vs Dayton and LaSalle), or the St. John's game (albeit a good team at #75), we could be on the bubble and may not get a bid without winning the A10.  Without Van Hoven back for the playoffs, we may not even be favorites to win the A10, despite the relative RPIs.  We need to start by taking 3 from Dayton this weekend, hopefully with Figueroa back from her concussion protocol.  I think if we win out but lose in the finals, we still get a bid.

Our goal this year was to get to the NCAA super regionals.  With everyone healthy and playing their best, this is still a possibility, although a long shot without a real shut down ace.  The problem lately is that we haven't been healthy, haven't played our best, and we don't know when we'll get our injured players back, or back at their peak performance.
