We play St. John's on Wed at home at 2:30, our last home game this year.  SID's Ryan Uhlich does a great job of including interesting stats, both for our team and nationally.

St. John's is 27-15, and 14-4 in the Big East.  They have a win over #7 Oregon.  Their RPI is #78 while we somehow jumped from #51 to #42, maybe because teams we beat like Baylor and Tulsa are now #10 and #28 and teams just ahead of us lost.  Us beating a now #180 team in Dayton alone doesn't justify our jump of 9 spots from last week.

As long as we stay in the top 50, we should be fairly safe for an NCAA bid if we don't win the A10.  Obviously, we want to be ranked as high as possible to get a good seed, unlike last year.  Last year our RPI was in the 60's-70's and we had lost early in the playoffs.  The committee thought SJU was going to win it, so when we did instead, we essentially got an SJU-equivalent bid (#130) and had to go to #5 Oregon.  We probably would not have gotten a bid without having won the A10.

St. John's have an impressive .318 BA and 3.30 ERA.  They have 4 quality pitchers with good control, 2 of whom are seniors.  Almost all of their speed comes from one player, Junior Lauren Zick.  They have decent power, but moreso in extra base hits than HRs.

We could see the game split between Quense and Aughinbaugh in the circle and 11-12 players getting ABs to prepare for the key A10 series vs LaSalle next weekend.  I'd like to see Figueroa back but as of Sunday, she still apparently had some concussion-related issues.  It's been almost 3 weeks.

I'm driving to and from the game and have room for three, possibly four others in the car, if any retired or otherwise available Fordham Fans want to meet me at 86th Street & Lexington Avenue at 1:30 PM today. Please advise via preferably before 11:30 AM.

Quense is pitching in this one with Aughinbaugh as DP for Vergona, which is probably our best offensive lineup currently available.  Figueroa and Van Hoven are still out, although the latter was taking bp today.  Murray (3.01 ERA) is pitching for St. John's.

In the 1st, Quense gave up a 2-out single, then a walk, had a safe FC GB to SS to load the bases, then a double to score 3 runs.
In our half, Canessa and Hughes K'd, Shaw grounded out.  Rams down 3-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense retired the side in order, getting 2 Ks.
In our half, Johnston and Mayer had weak GB outs before Aughinbaugh singled up the middle.  Quense grounded into a force.  Rams down 3-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Quense retired the side in order.  Out #3 was a GB off Johnston's glove at 3b that Mayer at SS fielded and threw the runner out.
In the bottom half, Trivelpiece grounded out, Skrepenak K'd, Canessa grounded out.  All of our outs have been GBs or Ks.  Rams down 3-0 after 3.

As expected, Aughinbaugh in to pitch for Quense in the 4th.  With 1 out, She hit a batter.  Next hitter reached on a GB to Hughes who hesitated on the throw, but Aughinbaugh pitched out of it.
In our half, Hughes reached on a bad hop GB.  Shaw flied out.  Johnston reached on a GB FC, Hughes safe at 2b.  Mayer grounded out.  Aughinbaugh K'd.  2 LOB in scoring position.  Rams down 3-0 after 4.

In the 5th, Aughinbaugh retired the side in order, getting a K.
In the bottom half, Quense reached on a hard GB shot to 3b (error).  Trivelpiece grounded out.  Skrepenak got an infield hit.  Canessa singled to load the bases, our first solid hit.  Hughes flied out to LF and the runner was thrown out at home.  Rams down 3-0 after 5.
In the 6th, Stocks in to pitch for Aughinbaugh, retired the side in order.
In the bottom of the 6th, Shaw lined out to RF.  Johnston and Mayer grounded out.  Rams down 3-0 after 6.

In the 7th, Stocks gave up a walk, got a force out, runner stole 2b and a bad throw by Vergona allowed her to get to 3b.  Stocks then got a K, and a GB out.
In our half, Aughinbaugh K'd.  Quense grounded out.  Van Hoven, wearing a brace on her lower right leg, in her 1st AB since 3/29, K'd looking to end it.

Rams lose 3-0 while giving up only 2 hits. We're 39-14, 15-5.

Quense gave up the 3 runs and 2 hits, with 2 Ks and 1 BB.  An executed FC in the 1st would have held St. John's scoreless.
Aughinbaugh had 2 Ks and Stocks had 1 K and 1 BB.
We only had 4 hits and 6 Ks.  All but 3 of our outs were GBs or Ks.

Here's the SID's write up and box score:

We haven't been hitting well or playing our best defense with Van Hoven and Figueroa out and I think we are a little overrated right now at #42 RPI.  It's a little troublesome that Figueroa wasn't back yet today.  While Van Hoven PH, she isn't 100% and I doubt will play defensively at SS this weekend.  Our next game is vs LaSalle in Philly on Saturday at noon, weather permitting.
