We play 2 in Philly Saturday at noon and a third game Sunday at noon, weather permitting, while UMass plays at Dayton.  The outcomes will determine 1st and 2nd place, although both teams will probably get A10 playoff byes.

Here are the scenarios for determining 1st and 2nd this weekend:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C_GJnYsUIAE5qWG.jpg

LaSalle is 20-24, 7-13, having beaten UMass once last weekend and only having lost by a run the other two games.  They outhit UMass is 2 of the 3 games.

Their BA is .256 as a team and they have a 4.38 ERA.  They don't have a lot of power or speed, but are a little better than us defensively with our injuries.  Their RPI is 224 to our 42, which will fall back a bit after our loss to St. John's.

Here's the SID'spregame write up and the link for the games.  Live Stats only.
http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/5/5/softball-finishes-regular-season-at-la-salle.aspx?path=softball

I don't expect Figueroa to be back yet and Van Hoven only to be DP or PH.

I won't be able to cover game 1 play by play.

After having 2 runners thrown out in the 1st, Van Given hit a 2 run HR in the 2nd.  Great to have her back!

Hughes hit a sac fly scoring Quense for the 3rd run.

3-2 Rams top 4th
Quense gave up 2 HRs in the 3rd.  They almost had a 3rd, but Skrepenak robbed a batter of one in LF.

Rams up 3-2 after 4.

UMass is up 4-2 on Dayton after 5.

Hughes hit a solo HR in the 7th.

Rams win 5-2 That assures us of a bye in the playoffs.  We're 40-14, 16-5.  This is the 3rd year we've have 40+ wins.  (49 in 2010 and 42 in 2011).

UMass beat Dayton 6-3 and they need to lose a game for us to finish 1st.

We only got 7 hits against their weakest pitcher, but 3 of which were HRs, by Van Hoven, Hughes, and Mayer.  Johnston, Van Hoven and Mayer each had 2 hits.  Canessa's and Shaw's bats have cooled off lately.  Shaw had 2 K's in this one.

Quense gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits (2 HRs) with 5 Ks and 1 BB, but she hit 3 batters.  That was her 20th win.

Game 2 should be at about 2:30.

Aughinbaugh is pitching in game 2.  Van Hoven is DP.  Quense isn't playing.  Gearhart (3.92 ERA) is pitching for LaSalle.

In the 1st, Hughes walked and Shaw hit a 2-run HR.  Mayer and Johnston walked but were LOB.
We got a 6-4-3 DP.
Rams up 2-0 after 1.  Dayton got a grand slam to go up 4-2 on UMass in the 1st.

Skrepenak and Aughinbaugh singled in the 2nd, Canessa walked.  New pitcher, Roadcap (3.86 ERA and almost 3:1 K:BB ratio).  Hughes reached on SS error while 2 runs scored.  A WP moved runners up.  Shaw reached on an error by 2b, 2 runs scored.  Johnston walked.  A WP moved the runners up again.  Mayer reached on a FC.  A throwing error by the SS on the play scored a run.  Van Hoven lined out.  Trivelpiece walked to load the bases, our 6th walk.  Gearhart back in to pitch for Dayton.  So much for Roadcap's K:BB stats.  Skrepenak hit into a force at home.  Aughinbaugh singled home 2 runs, then stole 2b.  Canessa flied out.
Aughinbaugh retired the side in order, getting 2 Ks.
Rams up 9-0 in the 2nd.  Dayton is up 8-2 on UMass after 3.

In the 3rd, Hughes and Shaw hit HRs.
Aughinbaugh retired the side in order, getting 2 more Ks.  Rams up 11-0 after 3.  Dayton up on UMass 8-2 after 4.

In the 4th in game 2, we went down in order.
In their half, Aughinbaugh retired the side in order getting 2 more Ks.  Rams up 11-0 after 4.  Dayton run ruled UMass 11-3.

Live Stats froze for the 5th, but the Rams won 11-0.  Aughinbaugh only gave up 1 hit, had 7 Ks and 0 BBs.  We're now in 1st as A10 Champs, with 1 to play.

We only got 6 hits.  Shaw had 2 (HRs) and Aughinbaugh had 2, but we had 6 walks.  Van Hoven was 0 for 3 but hit the ball hard every time.

We're 41-14, 17-5 (1st).  UMass is 13-5 (2nd).  Game time tomorrow vs LaSalle is at noon.  Go Rams!

If we sweep and UMass loses 1, we'd be at (.782) and they'd be at 14-5 (.736).

If we each lose 1, we'd be at 17-6 (.739) and UMass would be at 14-5  (.736)

This was taken from another thread but after yesterday's results haven't we already won the A-10 regular season championship?  After today the best UMass can do is a .736 win percentage.  The worst we can do is a .739 win percentage.  .739 > .736 yet I haven't seen anything from the athletics website or Twitter declaring us champions.  So what gives, Tex?

Bad math on everyone else's part?

They said they know but for some reason want to announce it later.  Huh?

Having clinched 1st place, Bridget is starting Stocks in the circle.  She has the best ERA at 1.62 but about 1/3rd as many innings as Quense or Aughinbaugh.  Her WHIP is about .80.  The rest of the lineup is the same as yesterday with Van Hoven as DP and Aughinbaugh in RF for more offense.

Van Hoven is PR for the first time she gets on base.  It'll be interesting to see what happens the 2nd time, if she's left in to run with the bad leg or pulled being subbed for twice.

Live Stats isn't working initially.  I'm having to "follow" on Twitter.  Not that it matters, but Dayton is up 1-0 on UMass after 3.  We have a good chance of facing Dayton in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

In the 1st, Canessa walked but was thrown out at 3b on a Johnston single.

In the 2nd, we scored 1 on a Skrepenak double and 2 on a Aughinbaugh double.
Stocks hasn't given up a hit through 2.  Rams up 3-0.

We had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 3rd and didn't score.
Stocks gave up a HR, a single and a batter reached on a Mayer error at SS.   Rams up 3-1 after 3.

I can't update the rest of play in this one.

Looks like the Rams run ruled La Salle 12-1. I will leave the details deservedly to TXRAM.

Yep we won 12-1 and, not that it made a difference, UMass lost 3-2 on a walk off.  I'll have to await the write up and box score for details.

The playoffs start Wednesday at George Mason.  We don't play until Thursday.

We right now are 42-14 ( right TxRam?); with that regular season record, and finishing first, are we assured a NCAA bid even if we don't win the A 10 tournament ?

I would say yes, we should get a bid regardless, unless somehow we lose all playoff games, then we might not, or get a really bad seed.   I certainly want us to win them all, not just for the championship but for the NCAA seeding so we have a better chance of going to the Super Regionals.  It's our best shot since Jen Mineau days as pitcher, and losing 5 starters to graduation this year will make it tougher for a while going forward.

Here's the SID's write up and box score:  http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/5/7/softball-clinches-fifth-atlantic-10-regular-season-title.aspx?path=softball

We got 10 hits in the 5-inning, run rule game.  We also had 12 walks!  LaSalle pitchers had control problems all weekend, but we're good at getting walks.  We have 247 (new season record) to our opponents' 96.  Van Hoven had 2 hits (good to see), as did Skrepenak.  Skrepenak had a HR, her 2nd of the year.  She, Hughes, Aughinbaugh and Ferri all had doubles.

Stocks pitched 4 innings, giving up 1 run (a HR) on 2 hits, with 2 Ks and 3 BBs.  Runlett finished the 5th with 2 Ks and 1 hit.  She had 1 WP and 1 HBP.

We're 42-14, 18-5.  UMass finished 2nd at 13-6, SJU 3rd at 14-8, Dayton 4th at 13-10, St. Louis 5th at 12-10, and George Mason 6th at 12-11.   UMass gets a bye along with us.

We play Thursday noon against the winner of Dayton-SLU.  Dayton gave us a tough series and took 2 of 3 from UMass.  They have quality pitching.

Absolutely!  I saw Bridget try all different combinations in 6 different defensive positions and upteen lineup changes.  What she wound up with vs LaSalle, with Van Hoven at least back as DP on offense, was probably our next best offensive/defensive combination other than having everyone back at their pre-injury positions.  It meant having Aughinbaugh in RF when she's not pitching, but she's a better hitter than Trivelpiece or Skrepenak and has more speed.  It also means Quense doesn't hit, which, with a .210 BA and 35 Ks, I'm ok with.  I'm assuming Figueroa will be back in the lineup for the playoffs, replacing Skrepenak in LF.  (Skrep will play RF when Aughinbaugh pitches.)  I heard that Figueroa was borderline for LaSalle, but they took extra precautions and held her out.

ESPN2 will have the selection on Sunday May 14th at 10 pm.  No A10 games are scheduled for ESPN coverage but they will be on the A10 network.
