None of the games will be on ESPN but will be televised on the A10 network.  WFUV's Drew Casey will be doing several of the games.

Here's an interview with Bridget, Shaw and Quense:

That's Bridget's daughter walking around in the background.

We'll play #5 St. Louis on Thursday at noon, who upset #4 Dayton 5-3.  We didn't play St. Louis (25-23, 12-10) during the year.  They beat SJU and UMass each once during the season.  Maybe their best game was a 5-2 loss to #24 Arkansas, otherwise, they played a weak schedule.  Their RPI is #181.  Ours is now #48.  All of their stats are decent, not great.  They hit .263 and have a 2.99 ERA.  Their best pitcher, Baalman, who 3-hit Dayton today, sometimes has control issues with BBs and HBPs.

#3 SJU had a walkoff 3-2 win over George Mason and will face #2 UMass.

George Mason eliminated Dayton 6-5 in the losers' bracket.

Our first game was moved up to 10 am due to weather.

It appears it'll be delayed as it already raining.

It looks like it'll be an extended delay, maybe until late afternoon.

It's officially rained out and is rescheduled for 10 am Friiday.

That should help SLU some, giving their ace more rest after facing Dayton on Wed.  Plus it's suppose to be a cool 53 degrees and Quense isn't her best in cooler weather.

Vs St. Louis, Quense is in the circle, Van Hoven is DP and Aughinbaugh is in RF.  Baalman (2.63 ERA), with an extra's day's rest, is pitching for SLU.

Quense gave up 2 walks in the 1st but no runs.
In our half, Canessa walked.  Hughes beat out a bunt.  Shaw K'd.  Johnston reached on a SS error.  Mayer singled home 2 runs.  Van Hoven K'd.  Quense grounded out.  2 LOB.  Rams up 2-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense retired the side in order.
In our half, Canessa singled with 2 out.  Hughes doubled.  Canessa scored on a throwing error.  Shaw doubled home a run.  Johnston walked.  Mayer got an infield single to load the bases.  Van Hoven K'd again.  Doubt she has her hitting eye back after being out a month.  3 LOB.  Rams up 4-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Quense gave up a walk.  Ump has a tight zone.  Johnston made an error at 3b.  WP moved runner to 3b but a GB got her out of it.
In the bottom half, Quense singled.  With 2 out, Canessa got an infield single.  Hughes grounded out.  2 LOB.  Rams up 4-0 after 3.

In the 4th, Quense got a K, gave up a walk, got a fly out, and a GB out.
In our half, Shaw walked.  Johnston singled.  Mayer popped up.  Van Hoven grounded into a force.  Quense was HBP to load the bases.  Skrepenak walked in a run.  Aughinbaugh reached on a error; a run scored.  Canessa flied out.  3 LOB.  That's 10 for the game.  Rams up 6-0 after 4.

In the 5th, Quense gave up a single, SLU's 1st hit.  She gave up a double to RF that Aughinbaugh (not an outfielder) misplayed, scoring a run.  A bad relay throw home by Hughes allowed the 2nd run to score.  Quense got 2 GB outs, gave up a single, then a GB out.
In the bottom half, Hughes walked.  Shaw singled.  Johnston lined out.  Mayer grounded out.  Van Hoven K'd for the 3rd time.  2 LOB in scoring position.  Rams up 6-2 after 5.

In the 6th, Quense got 3 GB outs.
In our half, Quense walked.  Skrepenak got a bunt single.  Aughinbaugh's sac bunt moved the runners.  Canessa hit a 3-run HR, her 7th of the year.
Hughes tripled.  Shaw walked.  Johnston singled home the winning run.

Rams win via run rule 10-2.
Quense gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 3 Ks and 4 BBs.
We had 14 hits.  Canessa and Hughes had 3; Shaw, Johnston, and Mayer had 2.  We had 7 BBs and 12 LOB.
We had 2 errors and 1 badly misplayed ball that cost us the runs.

Here's the SID's write up, video highlights, and box score: http://fordhamsports.com/news/2017/5/12/softball-drops-saint-louis-10-2-in-a-10-quarterfinals.aspx

We next play the winner of #2 UMass and #3 SJU tomorrow at 1 pm.  (time changed from noon)

I was waiting for that update! Nice game. Could have blown it open earlier, but they kept pushing and finished the Billikens off early.

Umass up 2-1 over SJU top 6th.
Final UMass wins 2-1.

Rams v. UMass tomorrow at 1.

Rams v. UMass tomorrow at 1.
UMass only got 3 hits and both runs were unearned.

I think Aughinbaugh will start for us, but Quense will be ready if needed.  The question will be who will be in RF, which could be Shaw (an infielder), Bridget giving up defense to keep our best offense in the game.  The loser has to play a second game tomorrow.

We're 43-14 and are hitting our best ever .314 as a team.  Our 2.09 ERA isn't too shabby either.  Both are best in the A10 by a wide margin.

#6 and host George Mason eliminated #5 St. Louis 4-0.  They'll play #3 SJU next.

Vs UMass, we have the same lineup as yesterday.  Quense is pitching instead of Aughinbaugh, who is playing RF.  This is our best lineup combination available right now.  I thought I saw Figueroa yesterday in warmups but not in uniform.  This is a long time to have concussion issues.

Colleran, who pitched yesterday, is in the circle for UMass.  She has a 2.74 ERA and a 3:1 K:BB ratio.  Former Ram pitcher and coach Chelsea Plimpton is pitching coach for UMass.

Fordham and UMass have 21 of the last 22 titles.

In the 1st, Quense, a usual slow starter, walked a batter, got a LD out, a GB out, and a pop up.  Nice play by Hughes at 2b.
In our half, Canessa grounded out, Hughes got an infield single.  Shaw doubled home Hughes. In doing so, Hughes set a new season run record of 63.  Johnston popped up.  Mayer flied out.  1 LOB.  Rams up 1-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Quense got a soft LD out, a double just missed by a diving Canessa, a fly out, and a K.
In the bottom half, Van Hoven grounded out.  Quense lined out.  Skrepenak got an infield single.  Aughinbaugh reached on an error.  Canessa lined out, a diving catch made by Stacevicz in CF, saving at least 1 run.  2 LOB.  Rams up 1-0 after 2.

In the 3rd, Quense got a K and 2 GB outs.
In the bottom half, Hughes, Shaw and Johnston all grounded out.  Rams up 1-0 after 3.

In the 4th, Quense got a K, gave up a single, got another K, and a foul pop.
In our half, Mayer singled.  Van Hoven lined into a DP.  Quense flied out.  Rams up 1-0 after 4.

In the 5th, Quense got a GB out, gave up a double, gave up a single which scored a run.  The runner missed 3b and the appeal was won, erasing the run!  Wow!  Hard to tell on slow motion replay.  Mayer made a throwing error putting runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Remember, SS is not Mayer's normal position.  She's filling in defensively for the injured Van Hoven.  A pop up ended the threat.
In the bottom half, Skrepenak singled to lead it off.  Aughinbaugh grounded into a force after missing a sac bunt attempt.  Canessa doubled.  Hughes walked to load the bases.  "Miss RBI" Madi Shaw singled home 2.  Johnston got an infield single, scoring a run.  Mayer K'd.  Van Hoven singled, scoring a run.  Quense hit into a force.  Rams up 5-0 after 5.

In the 6th, Quense got a K, a GB out, a single, and a GB out.
In our half, with freshman Breidenbach in to pitch for UMass (4.76 ERA), Skrepenak grounded out.  Aughinbaugh hit a triple, just missing her 1st HR by inches.  A passed ball scored her.  Caness and Hughes flied out.  Rams up 6-0 after 6.

In the 7th, Quense gave up 2 walks on 8 pitches, got a fly out, a GB out, a triple past a diving Skrepenak in LF scoring 2, and a 12-pitch GB out to end it.

Rams win 6-2 and move on to the championship game at 1 pm Sunday.  We play UMass again, who beat SJU, (who beat George Mason 4-1).  Colleran pitched again for UMass, only giving up 3 hits.

Getting this far and being 44-14 with a RPI of 48 should assure us of a NCAA bid, but we want to get the automatic bid and the best possible draw.

We got 10 hits.  Shaw and Skrepenak each had 2.  Shaw had 3 RBIs.  That gave her 73, tying Elise Fortier's record.
Quense gave up 6 hits, had 5 Ks and 3 BBs.

Here's some video highlights:

And the SiD's write up and box score:

And as of this morning the story about advancing into the finals was not updated to reflect UMass as the opponent, although the schedule of this weeks events includes the game. Details, details....

We only need to win 1 to get the Championship and the bid.  Go Rams!

81, we should get a bid regardless at this point, but the automatic bid, hopefully a better seed, and the championship would be ideal.  My best guess at this point if we win, will be that we go to James Madison, the #1 regional seed in 2015, whom we beat before losing to #2 NC State.  We were a #3 seed and had a RPI of 44.  It's 48 as of now.

We have the same lineup as the last 2 days, with Quense in the circle.  Colleran is pitching again for UMass after throwing 2 games yesterday.  This is like old school UMass pitching when aces Balschmiter and Plourde threw 85% of their innings in their respective consecutive careers.

Here are the links:  http://www.atlantic10.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&id=1886287&catid=0&KEY=&DB_OEM_ID=31600
                           http://www.atlantic10.com/liveStats/v2/softball/index.dbml?GAME_STAT_ID=3125367&db_oem_id=31600

In the 1st, Quense gave up a double that Skrepanak misplayed in LF that could possibly have been caught, but otherwise she got 3 GB outs.
In out half, Canessa walked.  I suspect we'll make Colleran throw a lot of pitches.  Hughes popped up.  Shaw singled Canessa to 3b.  Good base running.  Johnston grounded out but Canessa scored.  Mayer grounded out.  1 LOB.  Rams up 1-0 after 1.

txtram, on a game like today's, I suggest a post per inning instead of updating the one post with multiple innings. Just a thought.

In the championship game vs UMass in inning 2, Quense got a K, gave up a walk and got 2 pop ups.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Van Hoven K'd and is certainly not back to her pre-injury level.  She's wearing a brace on her leg and gutting it out.  Quense lined out to 2b and Skrepenak fouled out.  Rams up 1-0 after 2.

In the top of the 3rd, Quense gave up a leadoff single, gave up a controversial walk that would otherwise have been a caught stealing, got a fly out, got a force out on a good play by Hughes at 2b, and another force to get out of it.

In the bottom half, Aughinbaugh grounded out.  Canessa flied out.  Hughes grounded out.  Rams up 1-0 after 3.

UMass pitcher is dealing right now. Have to hold them on our end and I think we can eventually get to her.

In the top of the 4th, Quense got 2 quick fly outs and a comebacker.

In the bottom half, Shaw K'd.  Johnston grounded out.  Mayer singled up the middle.  Van Hoven K'd looking.  1 LOB. Rams up 1-0 after 4.

In the top of the 5th, Quense got a fly out, got a GB out on a nice play by Shaw at 1b, and a pop up.

In our half, Quense popped up.  Skrepenak doubled, one bounce off the LF wall.  Aughinbaugh grounded out with Skrep moving to 3b.  Canessa grounded out.  1 LOB.  Rams up 1-0 after 5.

In the top of the 6th, Quense got 2 GB outs to Shaw and a fly out.

In the bottom half, Hughes grounded out.  Shaw flied out.  Johnston hit a LD HR off the LF foul pole, the 2nd HR of her career.  Mayer K'd looking.  Rams up 2-0 after 6.

In the 7th, Quense gave up a leadoff walk, a single, a sac bunt moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, a sac fly scored a run and runner moved up to 3b on the throw.  While she has a stronger arm than Figueroa, the throw by Skrepenak should have gone to 3b or the cutoff.  A soft GB to SS was beat out and the tying run scored.  Quense got a LD back at her for out #3.

In the bottom of the 7th, Van Hoven grounded out on a nice play by Cozza at 3b.  A healthy Van Hoven would have beaten that out.  Cozza made another good play on Quense.  Skrepenak popped up.  Game tied at 2 after 7.

Huge mistake not hitting the cuttoff in the top of the 7th.

In the top of the 8th, Quense gave up a triple off Aughinbaugh's glove in RF that was ruled an error.  Another case of a player playing out of their normal position due to injuries cost us.  A sac fly scored a run.  Quense got a K and a foul pop.

In the bottom of the 8th, Aughinbaugh grounded out.  Canessa grounded out.  Hughes flied out to deep RF.

Ram lose 3-2 and go to a 2nd championship game  Game time will be at about 3:30.

We had 4 hits.  Johnston had a HR and 2 RBIs.
Quense gave up 4 hits.  2 of her runs were earned.  She had 2Ks and 3 BBs.

Absolutely, do not care about the 1st run. Keep the tying run on second. The next hitter was a slap hitter. No way that runner scores from 2nd.  Win game 2 ladies

Yup. They coughed it up.  Also some bad infield throws to first base.

Winning the second game will be tough.

It'll be Aughinbaugh (2.16 ERA) in the circle for the 2nd championship game.  Trivelpiece will be in RF and Quense won't be playing.  A lineup a little better defensively, but weaker offensively.  We could use Figueroa but, while in uniform, she's not cleared to play yet.

UMass will go with Colleran again in the circle.

Aughinbaugh gave up a bunt single on a questionable call at 1b.  A pop up bunt to Aughinbaugh resulted in a DP.  A single to RF that Trivelpiece dove for instead of catching on a bounce resulted in a double.  A spinning soft liner bounced in front of Mayer, who caught the runner in a rundown between 3rd and home but a Vergona throwing error cost us a run.  She didn't even try running the runner back toward 3b, which should have been her first move.
A GB out ended it.

In our half, Canessa lined out.  Hughes grounded out.  Shaw singled.  Johnston grounded out.  Ump has a liberal outside strike zone.  1 LOB.  Rams down 1-0 after 1.

In the 2nd, Aughinbaugh got a K, got a GB out, Mayer going into the 5-6 hole for that one, and a K.

In the bottom half, Mayer grounded out to Cozza at 3b, who made another strong play.  Van Hoven singled and was PR for.  Skrepenak hit into a force.  Trivelpiece K'd weakly on 3 pitches.  1 LOB. Rams down 1-0 after 2.
