Sailing in the Eastern Semifinal for Fordham are:

A Division: Will Holz '17 & Charlotte Leclue '19

B Division: Alec Tayler '17 & Jamie Spence '18

At the end of six races, 4A & 2B, our Rams are in ninth place with 51 points.

At the two Semifinal competitions today, 10 races, 6A & 4B, were completed. Our Rams are in 11th place in the Eastern Semifinal, 11 points
away from the final ninth place qualifying berth for the Championship Regatta on Thursday & Friday.

We're in 11th place in each division. In A, we're nine points out of ninth, and in B, we're only two points away. Our finishes ranged from a pair of fourths to one 14th place finish. Tomorrow, we need to step up our game; have nothing but top 10 finishes, and sail consistently. Our two senior skippers and excellent crews are definitely capable of doing so.

Man! Oh man! Oh man! Our Rams finished 7-7-1-1 in their last four races to move into 10th place, three points out of ninth!

13 races have been completed.

This is an unbelievably close competition. One mistake can cost several points and places in the standings. And back-to-back bullets at this

STOP THE PRESSES!!!

In Race 8A, Will & Charlotte just placed 2nd! We're now in a three-way tie with George Washington & Stanford for 6th place and Fordham has the tie-breaker! Fourteen races have been completed.

I'm not sure if the time limit is 3:00 or 4:00 PM but there is a lot of racing ahead of us.

About the time I posted the preceding update, former Sailing Team Assistant Coach & Fordham Hall of Fame Sailor Bud McEntee '71, wrote,
"The scores are flipping around like a pinball game after each race. We are still in the top 9, but with 25 points from 2nd to 11th, it's a wide open slate."

Like most others among the Top 11, Fordham has been a pinball but with the exception of a 12 - 11 in B Division and a 10 in A Division, our Rams have been unbelievable. Check out the following:

B Division is on the water for their final set of two races. 5:00 PM is the cut-off time.

We should advance to the Championship Round but anything can happen.

Hallelujah!

Fordham finished 6th in the Eastern Semifinal and advances to the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship Round, which
commences tomorrow morning and continues until 36 races are completed or time expires on Friday.

Congrats to four tough-minded sailors and the entire team for a gritty performance in the very competitive Eastern Semifinal.

We're heading out to dinner so I'll post a wrap-up of the Semifinals and a preview of the Championship later this evening.

Vinny, my bride and I are on the North Fork and shared an order of Baked Clams, a Lobster Roll and a couple of Planter's Punch to celebrate.

First, the official report has Hampton being disqualified in the next to last race, which effected the scores of several teams including Fordham.
We are 5th not tied for 5th.

Our specific race-by-race results follow.

Basketball is sometimes called "A game of streaks." So, too, Sailing can be at times. In addition to scoring only three races each
beyond the Top 10, which was a good sign of consistency for both our boats, each skipper-crew combo had a three-race streak, practically at the same time, starting halfway through the regatta. A Division put together a 1-2-2 series and B Division scored three "Bullets," albeit sandwiched about two double-digit finishes between races #6 and #10. These were incredibly timely streaks, which thrust us back into the
Top 9, where we stayed until the competition ended.

Will Holz '17 & Charlotte LeClue '19 in A Division and Alec Tayler '17 and Jamie Spence '18 in B Division sailed perhaps the best regatta of their college careers, and hopefully, after a good night sleep, they will emerge refreshed tomorrow morning and be equally as effective in the Championship Round Thursday & Friday.

Following are the final results of both the Eastern & Western Semifinal's. The Top 9 at each Semifinal qualified for the Championship Round.
2017 is the fifth year in a row, that the Fordham Coed Dinghy team qualified for National's, and the third year in a row, that Fordham qualified for the Championship Round.

In 2013 and 2014, our Rams finished 11th and 10th respectively in the Semifinals. In 2015, Fordham qualified for the Championship Round for the first time and placed 14th overall and 2nd among all club teams in the country. Last year, our Rams qualified again for the Championship but finished last (18th) while placing 4th among all club teams.

This year, anything better than 14th is a win as it will be a new Fordham record and continue the upward trajectory, which the team has experienced since it was resurrected over 17 years ago.
