Tomorrow & Friday, June 1 & 2, Fordham will be one of 18 teams, which made it through three qualifying rounds to sail in the 2017 Coed Dinghy National Championship competition. Among the 34 schools, which field varsity Sailing programs, 20 teams made it to the national semifinal's. Of those, 14 or 70% qualified for the Championship Round. Conversely, among the 190 schools, which field club Sailing programs, 16 teams made it to the national semifinal's. Of those, four or 25% qualified for the Championship Round. Fordham is one of those four. In fact, Fordham was the highest placing club team at the national semifinal's. Fordham finished in 5th place; Brown placed 6th; Boston University was 8th & U C Santa Barbara finished ninth in their respective semifinal competitions.

By conference, following are the teams, which will be competing for the National Coed Dinghy Championship tomorrow & Friday.

MAISA (Mid-Atlantic Conference - 6) Fordham, Navy, Georgetown, George Washington, Hobart/William Smith & Kings Point

NEISA (New England Conference - 8) Yale, Tufts, BC, Coast Guard, Brown, Roger Williams, Boston U. & Dartmouth

SAISA (South Atlantic Conference - 2) Charleston & South Florida

PCCSC (Pacific Coast College Sailing Conference - 2) Stanford & U C Santa Barbara

None of the three all-Club team conferences (Midwest, Southeast & Northwest) has any representation in the Championship Round.

tuckertomm, that is truly funny!

As of 12:45 PM, the breeze in Charleston is from the west at 2 mph. The minimum needed to race is a steady 3 mph.

Sailing has commenced with Fordham going with the same pairs, Will Holz '17 & Charlotte Leclue '19 in A Division, and Alec Tayler '17 & Jamie Spence '18 in B Division, who got them to the "Dance."

After eight races, our Rams are in 12th place.

Following are the race-by-race results, which include a bullet in 2B.

DIV     1     2     3     4
A        8     9    14   13
B       11    1    10   14

CURRENT STANDINGS ( * = Club team)

Fordham's Race-by-Race Results For 16 Races

B     11   1   10   14   12   13   7   11           79

The 1st & 2nd are terrific but we'll have to improve our percentage of Top 10 finishes, which with seven of 16 now stands at 44%, if we
expect to top our best prior performance at national's...14th.

CURRENT STANDINGS (* = Club team)

5. Charleston                     126
6. Hobart/Wm. Smith         137
7. Tufts                             147

At the end of the day, the Race Committee was able to schedule 20 races. Fordham is still in 14th place, two points behind BU, the only Club team ahead of the Rams, and 11 points ahead of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Will & Charlotte scored a 12 and a 2 in races 9A & 10A. In 9B & 10B, Alec teamed up with Lauren Holderman '18 and they scored a
16 and a 14.

Our percentage of Top 10 finishes has dropped to 40% but there are 16 more races scheduled tomorrow and as we know from the performance of the Rams at the Semifinal competition, they are mentally tough and will fight for every inch until the end.

Stay tuned. It should be an exciting day tomorrow!

Sorry guys & gals but I've been incommunicado since posting a few hours ago. For the past two+ hours, my bride and I have been on the LIE
driving back to Gotham and I haven't had a clue re: the progress of our team. When I turned on my computer and saw that Fordham is in 10th place and the highest finishing Club team in College Sailing, I let out a yell, which could be heard on both the Rose Hill & LC campuses.

Racing continues but here is what has transpired since I posted a few hours ago.

Currently, 28 races have been completed. Will & Charlotte are still sailing A and they are in eighth place. Their last four races were 12-3-8-2.
Alec & Jamie are 12th in B and their last four races were 13-7-11-9.

As I mentioned, Fordham is in 10th place overall with 273 points. We trail 9th place Tufts by nine points and are ahead of 11th place South Florida by two points.

Boston U., which had been two points ahead of us is now 14th. The other two Club teams, Brown and U C Santa Barbara are 17th & 18th respectively.

Vis-a-vis the other teams in our Middle Atlantic conference...

5. Georgetown
6. Hobart/Wm. Smith
8. Navy
10. FORDHAM
13. George Washington
16. Kings Point

A lot can still happen during the next two races but right now, Fordham is looking very good!

Sailing continued until 5 PM and 34 races were completed.

I have to go out so here are the results of the Top 9.

1. Charleston
2.Yale
3. Dartmouth
4 Boston College
5 Hobart/Wm. Smith
6. Georgetown
7. FORDHAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. Navy
9 Coast Guard

Right now, I'm speechless. I just spoke with Bud McEntee '72 and the two of us are on Cloud 9.

I'll write up a full report later. There is so much to report.
