brief article and some pictures.

some camp interests for me

--who will be the 5th OL starter  (to join Coyle, Lombard, Hartman, Donaldson).
--who starts at the other  DE  (assume Green will be one).   interior should be set  (Manny Angeli Fox Ware)
--   what freshman will surprise and crack the 2 deep
-- What is   our new DC philosophy.    bend don't break  or more  an aggressive, blitz , press coverage etc.
and what is our base package formation  4-3-4   or  the Bucknell  4-2-5  scheme .
-- hopefully sports information can update weights on our roster  see if some of the OL/DL  beefed up in the offseason.

I'm glad football is back !   Grin

Some other interesting points as camp kicks off...

Starting earlier than usual this year. Summer school is still on-going so the staff needs to plan around classes etc. No more two-a-days.  New NCAA rule that I think is silly.. I assume its about player safety, but they could've regulated around cutting out practice time. Many of those second practices were to work on conditioning and learning the playbook. If they're worried about concussions, put in place a rule limiting contact to once a day. I'm afraid we'll see some sloppy FB the first few weeks and that's not good for our preparation against a team like Army. Lots of down time in camp now with a practice cut out every other day. I'm sure the coaches will find ways to use it, but how much time can you spend in the gym or the film room? Aug 1 report date, and game 1 isn't until Sept. 1. That's a long time.

Anyone hearing how camp is going so far?  Curious about the new D being installed and how that freshman kicker is doing

Are we sure that Fox is back? I know he was sidelined with injury last year, but he did not practice in the spring either. Has he been seen practicing so far this fall camp?

good question on Fox.  He is listed on roster but have not seen a picture of him in camp photos.

school website hasn't put up new article but found these pics on twitter

http://fordhamsports.com/galleries/?gallery=695

Another guy looking to see out there  is   DE  Johnny Pinninich     Not sure if injured last year or just no PT but he had  16.5 sacks as a HS senior.   Even if competition wasn't great  (idk).  those type's of #'s are impressive.  We'll see if makes some noise in camp.

Jimbo65  can we send you  into camp and get us a behind the scenes look and update  Smiley

Any info on scrimmages?

apologies jimbo65  Wink ...  I guess it's usually jimbo72 who gives camp updates.

here are some pics from Aug 9th practice.

http://fordhamsports.com/galleries/

was told offline DL Fox injury last year was serious and that it's unlikely to see him in a game this year.  (not impossible but slim chance).

A picture of Chris Johnson  OL # 60 in previous photo gallery but he is not listed on roster and can find no info on him at all.    Additionally there is a picture of  # 77 an OL ,   but no # 77 is listed on roster.   Maybe just a # change for current player but would nice to see the roster updated.

I know   K/P  Mevis came in highly touted..  curious if he and Cardenas will compete for both spots.  or after a few practices Coach B will make one the Kicker and the other the Punter and focus solely on that job for this year.

there are now 2 more camp updates on school website.  RB and a WR/TE previews with additional video and pictures.

incoming frosh  TE  Jack Gildea was not included in TE report.  Is he injured/out for year, switch positions or leave team?

Junios Erik Rottsolk   DL was switched to # 70 and will play OL.

a few other roster questions..
who are     # 11 , # 77  in practice photos?   new players or # changes..      we have 2  OL with #60 ?
Also there is a camp photo of    Jack Mueller .. He is not listed on roster but after searching google  believe he is     6'0 185  DB    Eureka HS  Missouri

Appreciate the camp updates from our SID , maybe an updated roster would be helpful.

If I can't find time this week I'm not sure I'll get to see the boys for the opener. If this was FCS fantasy the kid I would draft as a sleeper is Seawright. He's got good size, blocks well and is very athletic. Coupled with  the experience he got last year I think he's poised to have a breakout season

OL  preview

http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/8/14/fordham-football-report-8.aspx

feel good about the OL.     4 guys with experience return.

 LT  Coyle /   LG   ?   / C Hartman  /  RG  Lombard /  RT  Donaldson

who wins the 5th starters role?    thought would be  M. Deya   6'4 300  because of his size, but it appears he is working at Center and will backup  Hartman.   that leaves  Nevonte and Solano  ..  I guess if Solano played well in camp they could start him at RT and slide Donaldson into RG.   Rottsolk 6'6 has a good frame for OT but may need more time getting comfortable since he just moved over from the DL.   will any of the freshman push for PT this year?     Trautman ?   idk.  we'll see

solid OL play with our terrific skill position players and we should score in bunches and  average  >>40 PPG   this year..

DL preview is up.

http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/8/15/fordham-football-report-9.aspx

no Fox this year.  and its concerning only 7 guys currently practicing on the DL ?

during video, see  Green  (injured with red-shirt in background)     but  where is   Ware, Schwarz, OBoyle, Diodato  ??  they are mentioned but no sign of them on field.

I didn't think we would need more bodies on the DL this year but not so sure with that video...   maybe move  Fr.  Chris Johnson 6'1 300  from  OL to  NG... for additional help.

Agree on Chris Johnson. He is super strong at NT. He would definitely clog up the middle.

LB and DB camp updates on school website.

Max Roberts and Noah Fitzgerald will lead the LB group.   Thorpe seems to be nursing an injury but no panic here as believe we're in good hands with Roberts and and Fitzgerald.  I also have a hunch freshman Cunningham and Imperati will be in rotation and solid players for us.

DBs , plenty of experience returns.  Bucknell used 5 DB's  in their 4-2-5  base package and I think our new D  coordinator will incorporate the same with us.   Junior Jarod Vyent also moved from LB to DB.

I feel good about our LB and DB group heading into the season.   I'm more concerned with the health of our DL. (especially interior).  From camp DL video,  it appeared as if only 7 DL were practicing last week.  Are the injuries minor/precautionary out a 2-3 days.. or more serious.  If  Ware Deodato, OBoyle Schwarz wont be ready for season. (idk)  then perhaps move Rottsolk back to DT or Frosh OL Johnson to NG for reinforcement.

Roberts was such a beast at DE last year as a totally undersized true freshman.  I'm not sure if that means that moving him back to his natural position should mean an All-PL or better type season for him but I do think he's a release valve for us to move back down there if we need help at DE (particularly if we're not getting a good pass rush).

Thorpe's experience and toughness will be very tough to lose imo.  Does anyone know the extent of his injury?  I really hope he can play.  He's tough as nails albeit very injury prone.

I am really hoping the biggest improvement on D comes at DB (followed by DL).  I have high expectations for the staff to play tougher and better in the secondary as I agree that was one of Bucknell's strengths.  Hope I'm not expecting too much too soon.

Can't wait for Army!!

Kickers update.

http://www.fordhamsports.com/news/2017/8/20/fordham-football-report-12.aspx

couldn't get read from video on who leads  for  PK and Punter positions  .  we have 3 guys competing;    perhaps each one will be assigned a specific job to focus on this year ...   kickoffs,  field goals / x point,  and punting.

It didn't mention return specialists.
believe Caddle was our primary punt returner.
KO return    think DB Ham last year , and   maybe freshman   WR  Elzeyeat , RB  Davis will get a look  .. both were pretty good return men  in HS ..

was glad to see a pic of DL  Ware in  most recent practice.  we'll need our big boys in the trenches for Army.

look forward to seeing our   2 deep/game notes for Army.
what returning guys took a step forward in camp to earn starters role  and what freshman cracked the 2 deep (may get some PT this year).

If the defense is going to step it up from last season, it has to start with the DL.  We got knocked off the ball all over the place last season.  Not much of a pass rush and had a tough time with the run.  If that's fixed we'll be much better, IMO.  The coverage wasn't the issue that the front 7 was.
