Sagarin has our Rams as 8 1/2 point dogs. Here's the math:

Ranking.                       Rating
      133  EWU (0-2)        54.69
       183 Fordham (1-1)  46.11

Lemme think about it.

EWU  ranked # 16 in AGS poll.   Colgate is #24.    Lehigh no longer ranked  (L to Monmouth).

Home Opener.    EWU doesn't have much name recognition with a casual fan in NE but they are likely the best opponent we've faced at home in decades.

It will be a real test for us.   sounds like no Chase,  Brevard our # 2 RB out/ injured and we'll start freshman RB Davis. He impressed last week but those are big shoes to fill.  I assume Palladino still on roster  and  be #2 RB on depth chart this week.

Clearly our special teams have been a disaster. In 2 games  -- 2 blocked FG's, a missed FG and a blocked XP and a KO return for TD.   please get your act together.  Embarassed

We generally play well @ home but don't often face this level of competition @ Rose Hill  ( maybe Nova few years ago ) ..

I saw article that EWU will travel and suit up 70 guys for this game.  Since were banged up I'm glad we can have all of guys in uniform.

There have been some comments on Coach B  in  Army/CCSU thread (me being one of them).  I thought @ CCSU he didn't panic early and punted when needed to.  However If we  come out of gate slow  against EWU,  we will get blown out.

....In fact, Eastern will travel a day earlier than a normal road
trip, and depart Cheney on Thursday (Sept. 14). Classes at EWU
don’t start until Sept. 20, so the extra day will enable the Eagles to
acclimate themselves to the time difference and what will be a 6
a.m. Pacific time pre-game meal before the kickoff four hours later.
Besides having a walk-through practice at Fordham on Friday, the
Eagles will also visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in Manhattan. The
terrorist attacks in 2001 took place just after Eastern made another
East Coast visit, having defeated Connecticut 35-17 on Sept. 8, 2001...

No classes yet? They are already going to bed at 8pm!

Ouch.  With Brevard out for season and Chase on crutches (according to poster RamSpouse) with a high ankle sprain we're down to only 2 RB's.  Freshman Davis impressed last week and assume Palladino  is healthy and be the back up.
Id imagine  1-2 other players got a little work this week as an emergency RB.  I don't know who that would be and lets hope we don't have to find out but here are some guesses..

WR Caddle   (if Longi back)
WR Elezeyat  small but agile, quick
TE   Force     pass block/receiving threat out of backfield
QB's Ollie / Smith   know offense as a 3rd 4th string QB  why not..

It didn't include a fee last year, but I don't know if that has changed.

Marquee game with NFL scouts probably in attendance so if Chase can play he will play. Looks like we have soldified the Oline which is good. Hartman can now just focus on blocking and the snapping was better last week with Deya.

Love to see the young guys on the D Line two deep. Future with Carter, Ware, Marinelli, and Taylor looks bright for that group. Glad to have Niko back and hopefully he can bring some toughness and energy.

On the AGS board, most pics in the Patriot League Pics thread are for EWU over the Rams. In the Big Sky Predictions thread most pics are for the Rams over EWU.  It appears that fans of each conference are not feeling good about their own conference team.

guy in my company went to EWU, and he seems to think they've played very poorly and sluggish in 1st two games. not confident in their ability to win at all. they lost a lot of firepower from last years team.

i shook my head. could another team look more lost than we did in a 64-6 loss to army, where they didn't throw a pass? is ccsu anywhere near the calibre of north dakota state? i sure hope so... but certainly wouldn't bet on it.

most teams from outside the PL have a big advantage over PL teams because most leagues allow their teams to red-shirt players.  I think that leads to a big disparity on the lines which is something that we've seen in several of our playoff games over the years. IMHO, it will be the decisive edge for EWU.

I do think this game will tell us a lot about this team.  In our opener we were utterly outclassed and in the CCSU game we still showed many early season glitches but escaped New Britain with a win.  This week we play a high quality opponent in our home opener and we need to come out and perform.  I don't think this game necessarily has to be a W for us, but we need to play well.

Agreed - its not a "must win" but its definitely a "must play well and execute" type of game. If we're as sloppy as we were in the CCSU game, we're looking at another Army type blow out.

Also, I think this may not be "your father's EWU" team. Their production seems down. Let's hope the Rams come out ready to play.

Let's hope that Chase (fingers crossed) or Davis can establish some run game. Without the ground game, at least as a threat, the RPO offense is playing with one hand tied behind its back, and Anderson takes it on himself. He has no fear seemingly, and that's got its downsides when it comes to sacrificing his body.

I feel like the size from red shirt thing is a little overstated. The schools that have red-shirts (not patriot or ivies) have red-shirts because their schools place more of an emphasis on athletics. Because they place more of an emphasis on athletics, different types of athletes go there.

For example,  the huge lineman at Tennessee Chattanooga are huge because they are the types of O lineman that go there and not the types that go to schools like Fordham.

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/aug/15/lean-on-us-say-eastern-washington-offensive-lineme/

The Eagles don’t have a single senior on the O-line, but the learning curve has flattened considerably since last year. “It’s the ideal situation,” Butorac said.

Yale vs Lehigh is streaming for free without registration. Likely the same for the entire PL.
