After a productive week of practice, the team is ready to take on its first regattas this weekend! We asked Coach Norfleet to provide us with an update on the start of the season and some insight on our new squad.

Director of Sailing

Cristina Puglia '07

Coach Norfleet: "This time of year is always exciting with the start of classes, the first days back on the water, and the formation of a new team. I am very excited about how our team looks this year.  With the nine incoming sailors, we will have a final roster of twenty-nine sailors, which is the largest it has been in my time coaching the team.

We took a slightly different approach to the start of the season by not scheduling any regattas on the first weekend of competition. This has given us more practice time before our first regattas and allowed us the opportunity to focus on preparing our match race team for the qualifier at the end of the month. We were able to send eight sailors to a Dave Perry led match race clinic in Baltimore over Labor Day weekend which proved to be an invaluable training opportunity. Now we shift back to our regular practice schedule as we prepare for our first events on the water."

REGATTA SCHEDULE THE WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 16-17

Nevins Trophy at Kings Point
New York Maritime Fall Open at NYM
Sacred Heart University Invitational at SHU *

* Viewing available at all sites but at SHU, sailing will take place off St. Mary's Point in Long Island Sound outside Black Rock Harbor. The best locations, contingent upon the wind will be either Seaside Park or St. Mary's Park.
