Verbal Commits has it now, as well. They list competing offers from Memphis, Dayton and UMass, among others.

He's a 5'10, 190 lb. Point Guard from Lake Highland Prep in Orlando, FL.  Good scorer and passer, strong for his size. Looks like we beat out JMU, plus he got those offers RamRunner12 mentioned.

Welcome, Nick! (It's an honor).

I think Florida and Brennan Melvin comes to mind.

In all seriousness, looks and sounds like a legitimate mid-major guard. Looks strong. >180

Make it through the Spectrum commercial for the clip of his step-back. Seems to pull from his chest a bit, not sure that's a bad thing.

Good add. Keep going.

Any other team wins the World Series, good for them. They're drinking champagne, they get a ring. But if we win, on our budget, with this team... we'll have changed the game. And that's what I want. I want it to mean something. - Moneyball

He's smaller than the 6'-4" guard the staff seemed locked on to lately, so they must like his moves and shooting. It's good to get an early commit of a player that may help us a lot. As PM said, Let's keep it going.

My wish for a nice early period commit has come true. Well done, coaches!

Good website summary of Honor and his recruiting. Had more than mid major interest.

Reminds of when Smith and Hardnett signed. Similar timing, rankings and offers. Dont get me wrong I'm happy we got a commit, let's just hope this one works out better. If i remember correctly after smith transferred people on this board were saying small guards dont fit into coach's system, let's hope that's not the case.

Not sure that getting a commit in 2017 for 2018 is similar to last minute signings of a new coach. I don't remeber anyone saying small guards don't fit into the system. I recall people saying we needed bigger wings but that has been a complaint for years.  This kid is a PG who was offered by several good schools. On paper we should be excited.

That was dumb, I saw he was 2018 right after the post, i was too lazy to correct myself, agree completely. Although there were definitely people saying that, but its cool. Feels great to have a commit in the early signing period. Cheers.

I don't see how we can can be anything but excited about this. This is nothing like JN's past signings of smaller guards (Smith and Hardnett). This is someone giving a verbal in the early period who was offered by peer schools and higher. Beating Dayton and Memphis for a player is huge. Small quick guards are fine in JN's system. Slow players are not. With all recruits it is wait and see but this has all the makings of a quality add.

That's a good analysis, and as suggested a strong PG can compete well.

This is a player who visited Duke and Clemson. Looks like a quality signing.

A quote here from a scouting service:

"Class of 2018 prep Nick Honor of Orlando, Fla., is one of the top point guard prospects nationally. BrandonClayScouting.com Director of Domestic Scouting, Jonathan Hemingway, watched Honor at the Nike Elite 100 Camp. Hemingway’s takeaway: “Honor asserted himself as one of the better 2018 guards in the building this weekend. He brought energy, leadership and shot making to the camp games. His ability to get defenders back on their heals and then hit jumpers with the space created makes him an effective lead guard that can score.”

Congrats and welcome, Nick.

In terms of body type, we've seen many of the more successful A10 point guards with a similar build. Current Hawk Lamar Kimble fits the bill too.

Nice mix of basketball and academic focus in this kid from several articles and from the wide mix of schools showing interest/offering schollie.  Seems to have played at a good level.  Returning guards may allow him to ease into lineup and not be counted on heavily as a frosh?
