(UMBC is Univ of Maryland, Baltimore County.)

After an exhibition loss of 55-46 to Hofstra and a win of 83-33 vs Post, we open the season Friday vs UMBC at home at 5:00.

This year's team is very young, with 9 freshman.  We have more height than we've probably ever had but don't have the outside shooters that we used to.  We'll still rely heavily on Senior Forward G'Mrice Davis and Junior Guard Lauren Holden.

We had far too many TOs in both games, 23 and 21, vs 9 and 13 assists and we only shot 21% from 3 vs Post, which is not a good defensive team.

We have OOC games vs some tough teams, including BC, Pitt, Penn State, St. John's, UCLA.  This will be a challenging year.

As with the exhibition games, we continue to play sloppily, with more TOs than assists.  We also lost our best 3-shooters and are primarily just left with Holden.  Our defense seems a little slower than in the past.

Goulding is out today and will probably be for a week or so with a sore knee.

At the half, we're up 23-21 at the half.  We're shooting 38%; 25% from 3; have 10 TOs and 5 assists.  Holden has 9 points and Davis has 6.

We won 55-46, although UMBC got it to within 2 with about 2 minutes left.

We improved our shooting a little in the 2nd half, making 40% and 31% from 3, 75% from the line.  Our added height paid off in the rebounding area, as we out rebounded them 36-22.

Our ball control remained about the same as it had been.  We wound up with 20 TO's for the third straight game, and had only 11 assists.  One could say it was freshmen jitters but Holden and Davis had 8 of them.

Once again, Davis got in foul trouble and had to sit out some.  She wound up with 10 points and 11 boards.  Holden and Klug had 13 points and Cavanaugh had 12.  Only 6 players got meaningful minutes.  Holden and Cavanaugh played 39 minutes.

It appeared we have the same motion offense as we've had in the past.  I saw very few low post plays to take advantage of our height.

We play at BC next Thursday.

Liked the play of our new big freshman. 13 points, and we needed it.

Much different team this year but I am hopeful. Lets see how it plays out, and I agree: GO RAMS!

A win is always a (sweet) win.

Here's an excellent article about the game written in "The Ram", not usually an adjective I use about their sports coverage.
