Don't know why the thread disappeared.

If we win we play UVA in C'ville.

Is college soccer single elimination in the playoffs or like baseball?

Going to OT.

This video is a tough watch with the glare off the turf. I noticed it during football but it’s worse with soccer and the white ball at a faster pace.

And someone tell the announcers they don’t have to say match and pitch. This is America!!

I forgot the game was tonight until I saw this thread.  Started streaming at the beginning of overtime.  What a pleasant surprise!

Well said ACE. Other words I can do without are PACE (when they mean speed), and RESULT (when they mean a win, a tie, or the current score).

GO RAMS.

Great win--nice crowd--lots of students who stormed the field at the end. Team played from behind all night and found a way. Super shot from 30 yards out on first goal.

Keeper or Goalie?

Keeper or goalkeeper. Can't stand goalie. That's been used for many, many years though, unlike the other words that came into play when the EPL became so popular in the US.

Nice win! Go Rams! Can't see any problem with Americans expanding their knowledge of soccer terms. Frankly, I'm much more annoyed at the persistence in America of calling the main course an entree.

They are not soccer terms though. They are common words and we should continue to use the ones that are commonly used in this country. Jack Coffey Field remains a field whether football, baseball or soccer is being played on it.

All that said, biggest issue I had last night was the amount of times the terms were used. I am watching some highlights of some of Australia's qualifying game against Honduras and it took a good number of minutes for the announcers to use either match or game. Guess which one they used?

I'm curious, but it makes little difference to me whether they used pitch or field. Participating in a USMNT board years ago, I was 'advised' to use goalkeeper rather than goalie, which may have been common to elderly folks like myself because of hockey. I like to use the appropriate term. When someone says 'pitch' or 'squad' or 'nil-nil' I assume that they either trying to be pedantic or are quite familiar with the sport. I know someone who was quite put off by ESPN writing "Italy are eliminated." Oh well. As we used to say in Brooklyn, "Chacun a son gout."

I agree, each to one's own taste. I just don't like it when it sounds forced and last night it sounded forced to me. Use what comes naturally, is all I say.

Certainly not a cheeky effort.

They also liked to say "equal"  instead of tied.  And what, pray tell,  was the commentary about flags down at the end?  Sounded like an American Futbol comment after a touchdown.

Last time I saw a soccer team get stormed on the field was Fordham Columbia played on Eddie's back in 1984.  And I think it ended in a tie.

Great to see a home game in the tournament. Tremendous accomplishment.

Happened again in 1991. Same two teams. Columbia came in ranked 12th and we tied them 4-4. As odd as it may sound, given the score, I did have a good game that day. One of my roommates stormed the field when we went up 4-3 thinking it was golden goal. Columbia tied on the game at 4 on a rebound on a saved penalty kick. Teammate cleared it off the line, but ref said it went over. Coach told me later that if I were more athletic I would have gotten up quick enough to make the 2nd save. Sadly he was right.
