We'll need to play much better on the road than the other day to have a chance this afternoon. Albany has been money at home (30-1 in their arena over the past nearly three years!) - and this is their home opener. They'll be way up for this game. They were dismantled on the road by Maryland, but Maryland is a nationally ranked, Top 15 team. They returned the favor by smoking Monmouth by 24 on the road a few nights later.

All these new young Rams make it a little nerve-wracking, but that's the way it goes when you lose five players. We sorely need a player or two to emerge with some outside shooting. It'll be nice to see Davis get 1000+ today. Hoping for a good contest where this (very) young team continues to gel.

GO RAMS!!!

Well said, Belmont.  Game is at 2 pm.  Link is on:  http://www.fordhamsports.com/

Fomina and Goulding are both still probably out, leading to 3 freshmen starting and the first ones off the bench as well.

Correction:  Goulding is playing today.

Davis reached her 1000th point.  Rams down by a lot after the 1st quarter (16-8).  Shooting is almost as bad as men's was.  (23%; 0% from 3)  Coach needs a new offense as we don't have the outside shooters and ball handlers we used to have.  Our 3's aren't even close!  This is not last year's defense either.  Klug, especially needs to improve.

Slow start, but it's early. Nice to see GD get her 1000 pts.

Albany has some size and it's bothering us.

Down 29-17 at the half.  We did make 1 three though and are 1-9.  Overall shooting 28%.

Not at all doing what we need to do to win, and Albany playing strong team ball at home as usual. Too much player turnover all at once, not enough playing time together yet. I think they'll gel down the road this season, but it's going to be awhile.

Have to admit I'm jockeying back and forth between this one and the ND (#5) and Oregon State (#17) WBB game. Couldn't pass that one up.

Love that Internet!

Looked like Albany had something like five offensive rebounds in the first 90 seconds of the second half. Not rebounding, not shooting - not good.

Not any bigger than us, just more athletic.  Their pick and roll creates mismatches though.

The offensive rebounds are maddening, plus we've pretty much given up on the middle down on the other end b/c we can't do anything. Still, only down 10.

Nice take down by Davis! Whoa! But down 11.

Down 40-29 after 3.  Holden has 8 points. Davis has 6 on 2 of 9 shooting but has 11 boards.  Albany has yet to take a FT.

Cavanaugh is not having a good game.  She was a top 100 player and was 1st Team All NJ?  She's even had a red shirt year to practice.  I like her enthusiasm but she's got to play a LOT better.

Strong defense and Davis getting baskets gets us to within 1 with a minute to play after being down by 13 early in the 4th.

Rams up by 1 with 20 seconds to go.

Albany missed layup with 3 seconds left but Klug fouled on rebound.  1 for 2 FTs ties game.  Goes to OT.

Belmont, I'll let you finish up.

Rams fall 59-52 as they score 6 in OT, to Albany's 13...

It was a good one to watch as it turns out! We crept back in just like we did against BC. Maybe we've got something going, but where are all the scorers? Three of them are not enough.

Lost by 7 but first sent it into OT. I didn't think we'd win this one but I also never thought we'd get it into overtime, so in my mind that's progress. We need the rest of the team to play better alongside Davis and Holden. Cav turned it up later on and can be a disruptive force defensively, plus she did finish in double figures, so maybe there was some progress there too. The rest of the players really need to notch it up if we're going to have any balance as a team. Somewhere in there there's gotta be an outside shooter!

Happy for the video feed, as this one was a fun game to watch.

Accurate assessment, Belmont.

Davis finished with 17 points and rebounds, shot 50%, but fouled out.  Holden and Cavanaugh had 11 on 4-13 and 3-12 shooting while 2-7 and 1-7 from 3.  Gillis fouled out in 27 minutes of PT.  Klug, at 6'3" had 0 points, 1 rebound, and committed the foul on a defensive rebound attempt with 3 seconds left to allow Albany to tie it.  She played for Germany's national team, so it's not like she's coming in as a totally green freshman.

Holden played every minute at PG.

We came back to shoot 35% overall but only 16% from 3 - far different than last year.

Once again we had 20 TOs.  This probably bothers Coach the most.  She says they are doing it a lot in practice as well.

We're 1-2 and next face Northern Colorado Friday at 7 pm at home.

Thanks so much tx and Belmont. Went over to watch granddaughter in CYO clash  Cheesy We won, she had 7 pts}.  Fun to read in-game comments after the fact. Couldn't be worse than my "pathetic" comment before our two late TDs against Bucknell Wink  Based on pre-game comments, I'm thinking there's potential here. Go Rams!

Another tough loss, but I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. We lost a lot to graduation and these tight games will make our young Rams stronger. All the sign of a good coach in Gaitley. We're so lucky to have her. Based on what I'm seeing, games like these will become W's once we mature a bit.

Holden deserves defensive POG for the Rams.

Albany scored just 2pts in the final 8:14 of regulation. The Rams played high intensity "D", I think we ran out of gas in OT. Once some of the shots start to fall- look out. You can see Cav is going to break out one day, she is a good one. Like the addition of height to the roster. That was a great comeback, no panic- as mentioned Coach Gaitley is special.
