Indeed. The only point of another forward in Pecoras system is if he is Gaston's heir apparent. I see no point in recruiting a forward for next year unless he is a stud who will fill Gaston's shoes a season after next. At the same time it would seem a waste to recruit a capable forward just so that he can play 5-8 minutes a game.
IMO he should have been looking for Gaston's heir apparent all along. Chances of finding him this late are fading.

Keep an eye on 6' 7" SF Matej Buovac from La Lumiere in Indiana. He played for the Croatian Under 18 team in the European Championships and is a good outside shooter who can play the 2 or 3. Class of 2012.

Is he someone we are actively recruiting?

we need a big man to come in here and contribute right away next season.
Any rumors on who is in the mix?
maybe that 6 foot 8 tight end coming in on scholarship can play hoops too. I'm serious.

Wasn't it previously reported that the Fotball coach knocked that idea down?

Fordham has offered 6-1 Shane Rector from St. Raymond HS in the Bronx. He is Class of 2013, an honor roll student, and plays for the NY Gauchos AAU team. He also has offers from Dayton and UMAss.

I think Pecora and staff are keeping quiet about their involvement with some big b/c as of right now we have either 1 or 2 scholarships open after Gaston graduates and so far all we are hearing about are guards. I can understand thinking that Canty and Leonard (though not sure if he's more 4 than 5) can fill the middle, maybe Dominique the 4, but we have little depth there. I think Fay 2.0 is more a 3 than a 4. Then there's Luka, maybe a 4 if he really hits the weights.
It appears, a bit from afar, that the idea is to have serviceable bigs and a plethora of guards, some of whom can hopefully hit from outside with consistency. In Guards We Trust.

From what I have seen this year, I have more faith in some of our younger guards developing than our younger bigs. In other words there is a real quesion in my mind whether the bigs will be servicable. So IMO I really believe we have "little depth" literally.

Interesting RamFan78, this is the first I read of your opinion on our bigs and in particular a certain Mr. Canty.

Interesting RamFan78, this is the first I read of your opinion on our bigs and in particular a certain Mr. Canty. I am just basing it on what I have seen this year. I hope I am dead wrong but what scares me is not the physical part its the basketball instincts aspect. I go back aways and remember when guys like Tongel, Bona and even O'Sullivan first came on board. There first years were tough but even in those tough first years they did seem to have an inkling on where to be and what to do in addition to having physical abilities. They were just prone to getting in foul trouble and making expected rookie mistakes. They turned out to be pretty decent players.

I understand your point and where you are coming from. The point I'm making is that if your point was a horse, it would currently be glue.

I was impressed #32 on St Rays, whose number also is not on the team's roster on the web site. I did some checking and see that CTK played at St. Ray's on Feb 3, and that CTK won 84-74. Because the video shows a final score of 95-90 and a win by St Ray's, I am guessing this is an old video. http://www.maxpreps.com/contests/VpZqwy1qy02BGAJHBqBE7g/basketball-winter-11-12/boxscore-christ-the-king-middle-village-vs-st-raymond-boys-bronx.htmP.S. Following some more checking, I found that game was from December 2007 and #25 in the video is Darryl "Truck" Bryant who graduated in 2008 as St. Ray's all-time leading scorer. He signed early and went to West Virginia. Sorry pjd, but Bryant is no longer available. P.P.S. Sorry to burst your bubble ACE, but #12 in the video cannot be Shane Rector.

So, they do of course offer multiple players for the same position, but if this kid and the kid from Deer Park sign, we could have a team in 2013-14 with:
Jared Fay G Jake Fay G Shane Rector G Bryan Smith G Branden Frazier G Lamount Samuell G Fatty MCMillan G Jeff Short G Keith Williams G Mandel Thomas G
Ryan Canty C Marvin Dominique F Tre Leonard F
Is this possible?

It worked pretty well for La Salle this season. They are 7-7 in the A10 and 18-11 overall. In all seriousness though because the comment above was half in jest due to their loss to us, but I do suspect as you said that we are making multiple offers at one position and won't be two guards then. And you also left Luka off your list.

What about Luka? And the younger Fay and Short can probably play the SF position. Is it possible? Yes. Advisable? No.

I was at the game Sat and what really killed me is how poorly we shoot free throws. Crap I could hit free throws. What is with that. then pecora calls a time out just as Gaston breaks free for a dunk. Good grief.
That timeout is being called well before Gaston is heading towards the hoop on that pass from Frazier. It usually takes the ref a split second to acknowledge the TO call and then to whistle. The offense was very stationary on that possession which was surprisingly not the norm on Saturday. And to say he was free for a dunk is a taking some liberties. Also, why is your comment in the recruiting thread?
