Personally, I dont see it. I can understand if a kid needs to get his grades up.....but dont you want to get out of high school and start college? Who the heck wasnts to do another year of high school? Also, who exactly foots the bill for these expensive prep schools? The hockey kids who played for us that moved upward in that regard did it during high school and their parents had to pay full freight.

From NY Daily News on 3/27:
HALL MONITORS: The list of schools interested in Jefferson’s Thaddeus Hall continues to grow. Kansas State and TCU watched Hall and junior teammate Jaquan Lynch work out on Tuesday, according to Orange Wave coach Lawrence Pollard. Hall, a senior guard, recently called St. John’s his most likely landing spot, though other possibilities include Hofstra, Texas Tech, West Virginia, Maryland, Fordham and South Carolina. Pollard, who guided Jefferson to the PSAL city championship game this season, said he doesn’t expect Lynch to commit until next year. IN THE CARDS: Cardinal Hayes’ 6-7 senior Jalen Jenkins could end up at a prep school next season but is keeping his options open as he prepares to play for the New Heights AAU team at events in Las Vegas and Arkansas in April, according to a source.

Can we consider our chances of landing Jalen Jenkins nill? I mean we were hot for him and he decided to prep. If he wanted Fordham, he had Fordham. Looks like he's trying to either go better conference or better school in A-10. Thoughts?

Agree. He is holding out for a better offer.

I dont think anyone can really definitively make that determination. Many times kids go prep due to grades. Although, in hearing his comments, he sounds like a pretty level headed kid who is only 17 and wants a year to get a little stronger and be more ready. Kind of hard to argue with that, but again, do these kids get schoalrships for the 5th year prep? We had 2 kids go to South Kent and it was a huge nut for one year.

I also agree that he is looking for exactly what he wants or he is going to prep. Doesn't he hold an offer from Temple though? If so, then what exactly is he looking for? That's a Big East program by his sophomore year.

Ace- Who knows? All I can take from this is Fordham and Temple are not where he wants to be. Don't expect him at RH unless he has a sub par prep year.

I can say one thing for certain, if we do not show we are competitive in the conference this year (to me that means getting to .500), there is no way a kid like Jenkins is coming to Fordham.

We are now recruiting freshman PG Chris Atkinson from Long Island Lutheran, who is considered to be one of the top players in the class of 2015. Other programs reportedly tracking him are UCLA, Boston College, UConn, Florida State, Hofstra, Villanova, Cincinnati and St. John's.

I vaguely recall seeing this name previously. Son of Kenny? Nephew of former Fordham quarterback Scott? Or vice versa?

Looks as if we have tough competition for Reggie Agbeko but we are in the running. From a Buffalo paper on 3/29:
2012 BOYS HOOPS FIRST TEAM
Reggie Agbeko
• SCHOOL: St. Joe’s
• GRADE: Senior
• STATS: 18.6 ppg., 14.5 rpg., 2.2 bpg.
• SCOOP: Ghana native one of six finalists for New York State Mr. Basketball award. ... Monsignor Martin Association Player of the Year. ... Narrowed college choices down to Oklahoma, Marquette, Fordham, Drexel, St. Bonaventure, among others. ... The 6-foot-8, 235-pound center was one of the most feared players in Western New York.

Good info, Joe. Don't see Norman, Milwaukee, Philly or Olean on that list. I read on a blog that Reggie's favorite book is the Bible and his favorite movie is The Passion of The Christ. Makes him a pretty special (or at least unique) kid in my opinion. Hope they had Father McShane meet with him.

Marquette already has commitments for next year from a 6'9", 260 lb. center and a 6'7, 230 lb. forward. Let's hope that persuades Reggie not to head to Cheeseland.

Good point, John. Likewise Oklahoma already has commitments from a 6'8" kid and a 6'7" kid for next year.

A recent quote from Reggie Agbeko's coach:
“Obviously Reggie changed our lives when he arrived two years ago. It’s been a great experience, he’s a wonderful young man. ... It was great to watch him grow and develop, and in my opinion, he was the best player in Western New York.”
— Marauders coach Mark Simon

That dunk is one of the more amazing things I've seen on the court.

It still should count for one point. It's an easy shot.

His coaching career ended a decade before I was born, so I don't have a first-hand account. Great commentator though. In the year 2012, a dunk can be worth more than a basket. The college game is increasingly predicated on emotion.
Forty years ago, (McGuire's coaching career) athleticism was a fraction of what it is now. It's a different game entirely (in some respects, probably not for the better) and the importance of emotionally dominating your opponent via an athletic play/dunk is prevalent; frequently spurring a run.

Al was a broadcaster of one of our home games about 30 years ago. I remember him distinctly saying - "This place looks like it's run by the Little Sisters of the Sick Poor." Nothing has changed since then.
