It will be interesting to see what we do now. Do we stay active with the Hawaii transfer? We're we more interested in him anyway despite being a guard? Even though that would put us a 13 scholarships and technically not leave us an open one for when Gaston graduates, I suspect that if the kid from Hawaii or some other guard comes, someone ends up leaving after next season.
If we get another guard, we will have 7 who are competing for playing time, and an 8th comeing in Fay next season. Yeah, somebody would leave after the season, if not before. TP has shown that he is very comfortable waiting fo the spring signing period. He liks to assess the team's needs for the next season after the season ends, not before. We will definately need another big to replace Gaston in 2013. Jalen Jenkins, Ajbeko, Hassan Martin, and Oyungemi are all guys that have been on our rader. If Ajbeko of Jenkins really wantedto be here, they would be. Martin will probobly attract too much competition. I remember RAM71 sayingthat he had a hunch that Oyungemi would come to Fordham. That was several months ago, but does anyone know if we are still targeting him?

Zagoria: The 6-foot-8 former St. Anthony forward visited Manhattan Friday after also visiting Iona and Fordham this week. I will need to have a talk with the guy who misinformed me. But for some reason there seemed to be several people wrong on that.

Fine. Not sure Pankey was committing for the right reasons. Hope he gets a good education at MC, and we kick their butts each year he's there.
Agbeko's still out there, as far as I know. Or we can hold the ship for next year.

Would Jay Wright steer him to TP and Fordham? Would we be interested?
Alex Kline@TheRecruitScoop Villanova freshman PF Markus Kennedy will transfer out of the program.

I'd take him. 1-16 at the charity stripe would fit right in too. Still, from what I'v read, along with his size and other stats, he would help.

Any word on why he's leaving? If he's not getting along with Wright perhaps Wright would tell Pecora to stay away.

Wright has guided this kids career since he was a freshman in high school. I think Kennedy felt his chance of seeing time was substantially diminished by the recruitment of Daniel Ochefu 6'10" and rated a ESPN top 100. He was already playing behind Yarou, 6'10" PF/C a top 20 player in the US as well as Pinkston PF ESPN top 100 and rated a 94 out of Bishop Loughlin.
According to reports, Nova was his dream school and he is a great young man. He comes from a broken home and may need to stay in the Philly area so i would expect him to go to LaSalle or Joes.

CAn it be a hardship if the school he transfers to is in the same city?

No... short of his mother and family moving to another city where he could play, and additional issues arise (health, death etc...) there is no way for Kennedy to obtain a waiver. He will need to sit for a year.

I know it is meaningless now, but Zagoria has changed his original report to the following:
Maryland transfer Ashton Pankey is headed to Manhattan after visiting the campus Thursday. He chose the MAAC school over Iona and Fordham.
I guess I need to unretract my retraction.

How is that different? Wasn't the claim that he visited us on Wednesday?

I suspect Pankey made his choice based on the "Al McGuire factor". He visited Iona and Fordham on rainy days, Manhattan on a sunny one.
Seriously, though, consider: Frank out as AD, Mets throwing no-hitters, kids signing with Manhattan to increase their NBA chances* -- I've got to check my New Testament to see if these are the End Times . . .
*Guess nobody told Pankey that Bill Campion was the center for the Washington Generals.

This was Zagoria's initial report and, based on that, my retraction that a source had told me he cancelled his visit to Fordham: Zagoria: The 6-foot-8 former St. Anthony forward visited Manhattan Friday after also visiting Iona and Fordham this week. I will need to have a talk with the guy who misinformed me. But for some reason there seemed to be several people wrong on that. Zagoria has now deleted the part about the other visits and that caused me to unretract my retraction. Ace, I have a feeling this is sounding like a "Who's on First" routine.

Ace, I have a feeling this is sounding like a "Who's on First" routine. Ha, ha. A little like that routine, no doubt. I get what you're saying though. I thought it was a new tweet, did not realize it was a change to something in one of his articles. Zagoria also saying that Pankey will apply for a hardship waiver because he is returning home because his mother is going through some "personal problems". Pankey did not elaborate on that. Will be interesting to see how the NCAA handles this situation as it won't be as straightforward as a sick relative.

My guess, based on the circumstances I have heard, is that he will almost certainly be granted a waiver.

I agree, but I think the NCAA will have to be careful because it open the door for a lot more than just fqmily illness, not that it was limited to that now, but this could set a precedent.

My guess is that the only way he wasn't going to be granted the waiver is if he came to Fordham. Don't know why, but for som reason I think we would have been screwed.

Pankey is a nice player. So, he chose Manhattan. So did Peter Mulligan, so did Flores, so did a few other guys for whom it worked out quite well. Guys pick where they want to go, not where we try to quantify where they should go. Move on to the next recruit.

Might be true in years past but the compliance department has done a wonderful job lately. A rare 6th year was granted for a lady on the womens team, and Short got in by the skin of his teeth as well.

What did compliance do to help Short get in "by the skin of his teeth"?

Sorry, I am having a hard time remembering, but one of them was a waiver nightmare and the compliance department did a fine job doing everytihng within their power to get him in. From what I understand, it took up most of their time last summer. A Good Compliance department is key.

This is a very good player. If we can get him, I would jump at the chance. A pure high-level scorer.
