Zach Braziller‏@NYPost_Brazille
Was told New Heights won their opener at Adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas easy and Hassan Martin dropped 25.

What a great signing he would be for us- Chris Gaston's replacement. Hope TP is in Vegas to see him play.

This is the biggest AAU event of the SUmmer. Pretty much a 64 team March Madness tournament where teams play in pools to determine seeding then play in Bracket play.

New Heights beat a team out of San Diego that last year featured Shabazz Mohammed who was the #2 player in the country 67-40. Bottom line is Martin is put up this performance against top competition and in front of pretty much every coach in the nation. Hopefully he doesn;t blow up too much and leave us in the dust.

New Heights also features another option for the last Scholie for 2013 Shamiek Sheppard. THey play the Mass Rivals today who feature the #4 2014 player in the nation Noah Vonleh and #51 player in 2014 Kaleb Joseph.

We have also offered Kaleb Joseph, as per my post on him several months ago.

Do we have any shot at Joseph? Seems like he has some high major interest. Was TP on him early?

AAU 12 Grade National Championships are going on in Orlando this week at the same time at Addidas Super 64 in Vegas. Hopefully Duke or Parotta are in Vegas while TP is covering Orlando.

I was going to mention him but he is most likely going high major. Great job by TP to get in early to even get us on his list.

I believe we were the first to offer him last year.

@NewHeightsNYC 17's fall to Mass Rivals 62-50. Final pool play game vs Garner Road 5 pm.

I can't find anymore info on how Hassan played. Mass Rivals will be one of the best AAU teams next year with all their top players being 2014. THese Pool games are just for seeding before the Bracket starts.

I get the feeling that Manny Suarez is our guy for the final 2013 Scholie. Pecora was in Orlando and that is where Albany City Rocks were playing. Suarez plays for Albany so maybe the Jim Hart connection finally pays off.

If I had to guess right now Hassan Martin ends up at URI.

Recruit Recon‏@recruitrecon
RT @DanVeselsky: 2012 6-5 SG/SF Mislav Brzoja Traders Point Christian (IN) will attend Villanova this fall.

He was mentioned as a potential Fordham target some time ago. He committed to Northwestern but was not admitted. Then word was that he was going to Dayton but obviously not.

I believe he does. Not sure if he was in Orlando. I had a friend there and sent him to watch City Rocks to get some intel on Manny Suarez. He told me he didn't play with a bum ankle. I will ask him if Javion was playing.

Think you are right on the button....

If this is the case I think the focus probably will shift to Manny Suarez of Cliffside Park New Jersey. He plays at Marist High School and for the Albany City Rocks AAU team.

Couple of items on Manny...

1. Made 3rd team All Hudson County as Junior. Hudson County is loaded with talent with St. Anthony's, Hudson Catholic, and St. Peter's Prep.

2. After sitting out 30 days as a transfer, He Averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds as a junior. He also had 10 blocks in a game vs. a good Hudson Catholic team.

3. His performance as a Junior got him an invite to the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. Here was what one site wrote about a performance he had in that league:

Manny Suarez 6-10 215 C City Rocks - Cliffside Park, NJ Marist - Solid face-up post can pop jumper from perimeter or roll to the block and finish around the hoop. Despite being on the thin side, he didn't back down from contact and battled on the glass. He had some high majors their to see teammate Obokoh buzzing.

and this

Manny Suarez of Albany City Rocks and Marist (Bayonne, N.J.) is a prospect to watch. Kept under the radar to this point by injuries and a transfer, the 6-9, 215-pound lefty forward had coaches scribbling in their notepads during a win over de facto host Howard Pulley Panthers. A bit "quirky" – an accurate description provided by City Rocks coach Jim Hart – but very skilled with good shooting touch, Suarez is a stretch four that should garner mid-major looks.

4. Although I don't think he played in the most recent and most publicized live AAU period due to a ankle injury (Might be good for us). He did play in other prominent AAU tournies this year with City Rocks including the

Hall of Fame Invitational in SPringfield. Here is one account of his play:

Manny Suarez (6’10″ Sr. PF, Cliffside (NJ) Marist Prep) The lefty has a good frame and a body that’s not yet mature, but unfortunately he tended to settle for jump shots a bit much instead of parking himself inside to do damage first. He did show range out to the three-point line, but one surely comes away thinking he can be more effective if he starts inside.

Also he played in the Spring Fling where this was written about him:

Manny Suarez (Albany City Rocks 2013) – The 6’10” F/C is new to the City Rocks program after previously playing with Sports U IZOD. He made a quick impact by playing with outstanding energy all day and mixing in some skill play as well. The big lefty has range on his jumper out to the high school 3 point line making him a very dangerous pick and pop weapon. Suarez also rebounds very well on both ends particularly offensively where his length and motor make him a problem.

He was also rated the 6th best player in the tournament ahead of his more highly recruited teammate Chinoso Obokoh

6. Manny Suarez (Albany City Rocks) – Standing close to 7 feet, Suarez showed range to the 3 point line and a tireless motor on the backboard.

Finally  some video. Manny is 33 in White

One thing I noticed in video is Suarez does not appear to play under basket and rebound.  For his size he should be more physical.

I like watching the videos of potential recruits but you cannot evaluate a player's game from them.  They tell you nothing and mean less especially since we do not know anything about he opposition and the game plan for that particular game.

Why anyone would attend that school for any reason is beyond me.   Just incredulous.    Whatever.   Sorry...I hate to be a snob....truly (I am anything but an elitist!), but URI has no redeeming qualities and its athletic teams are just a blip on the NCAA radar.    Nothing special.

I haven't had to chance to watch the entire game Hassan played at the Adidas 64 but I was actually really impressed with Mann'y skill set when I saw that video. I know it is just highlights but Someone who is 7 foot with that kind of touch and agility doesn't come around often.  THe bulk will come.

Hassan is more of banger type with a high motor.

He actually has very good rebounding numbers especially on the offensive end. He needs to get into the weight room.

Mostly agree. FWIW the team he is playing int he article is a high level AAU team. I think the biggest thing I get out of this is that in many of these games he is out performing his teammates who have high major offers.

That does say something.  I was speaking more about videos showing if someone has to play inside more etc.  I do like watching the videos and reading the evaluations especially when we are going after some more high profile kids which it looks like we are doing.

Curious as to how you would stack rank our remaining viable targets in terms of ability and fit.
