I cannot see Grasso staying if Rice is hired. PJ, yes, you could sit Grasso down and assure him he's being groomed for the HC job in 2 years when PJ moves on. Rice is young, and a Fordham grad, and I don't see Grasso staying when other, better suitors will come calling.
I completely agree. It makes no sense that Grasso would want to stay here when he will get better offers elsewhere. Also, very few head coaches want to have assistants forced on them. Red flags should go up for any head coach who is told that he needs to retain one of the former coach's assistants. Where are the players' loyalties going to lie -- with the HC or the AC? That has the makings of a disaster and if I was advising a coach who was considering an offer to be HC under those circumstances, I'd tell him to reject the offer.
