You know, it's possible to make a negative case for any of our incoming recruits. The only way we're going to know is when they are playing for the team.  Based on everything I can find out, Gaston and Brown have some real upside potential; Freeman may be good no matter where he plays.  Let's hope we get to see any of this pan out.

You're right, we'll find out if they've been over-, under- or properly rated only when they get here, but unfortunately they probably won't be getting any better under DW. So our only hope is that they come to RHG as finished or near finished products, which no matter how good they are, is very unlikely for a HS senior/college freshman, especially at our level in the NCAA pecking order.

Yesterday I prematurely called an end to Potomac's season, mistakenly thinking that they did not qualify for the State tourney.

On 3/4 Brian Freeman had 17 points, 14 rebounds, 7 blocks as Potomac beat Hampton Roads 66-60 in the opening round of the State tourney.

I don't know how good Hampton Roads is, but that's a lot of rebounds & blocks.

On 3/5 Brian Freeman had 23 points and 9 rebounds as Potomac's season ended with a blowout loss in the quarter finals of the State tourney.

Joel Wright won his appeal and had his suspension reduced to 1 game.  He played in Jefferson's 70-59 win over Forest Hills today but I haven't seen his stats for the game yet.

Tonight in the NJ State semis at St. Anthony:

Paterson Catholic 60  St. Anthony 55

No report yet on whether Lance Brown played but Myles Mack (another Grasso target) reportedly had a very good game.

I really wanted to go to the game, but it was at a grade school gym that fits 350 people and they weren't going to be selling tickets at the door.  I like Bob Hurley a lot, but he should have moved the game to St. Peter's College or another Jersey City location so that more people could have gone.  I'm definitely going to the PC-St. Pat's game on Wednesday at Rutgers---hopefully Lance is close to 100%, both in health and his commitment to Fordham.

This is from a NYhoops.com preview of the PSAL semi-finals at SJU tomorrow:

Joel Wright is very important for the Orange Wave. He is the team’s top scorer at 23 ppg and also their best rebounder with 17 boards. Wright is 6-6 and can dominate the opposition in the paint and does it with quickness.

I saw about five minutes of the Patterson Catholic/St. Patrick's game on TV the other night. Lance Brown did play and in the little bit I saw he looked good, moved well off the ball on the wing, did the right thing in passing up a shot and scored a layup off a nice pass when PC managed to get him the ball inside.  I know it was not an extensive look but I was happy to see him move well after his injury.

I just went back and looked again at Brian Freeman's recruiting profile.  Noticed he was offered by Siena.  From the current perspective, given what I saw from Siena in the tournament, that makes me feel better about his potential to be a contributor as a Ram.

St. Joe's isn't too bad a program either.

Some recognition for Joel Wright and Fordham. Lance Stephenson was player of the year.

take all of this w/ a big grain of salt.  remember a few years ago we heard that Herb Tanner was being heavily recruited by GW at a time when GW was a tournament team, too.

Battering Ram, I respectfully disagree. We "heard" about Herb Tanner. I never recall seeing anything in writing about Herb receiving even close to the equivalent of first team All PSAL. Joel is a far better player than Herb was (or is).

I know that you are referring to Freeman.  You are true.  Also, Herb was a three star recruit, and Dunston was a one star on scout.  So you reallu do have to wait and see.  I do have a good feeling about the talent coming in though.  Unfortunately, I still have a bad feeling about the coaching situation.

That is great, congratulations to Joel.

A first team All PSAL player coming to Fordham is a nice get or us

Can anybody think of the last player we had of that calibre- I don't think Bethel was, maybe Robin?

Bethel was definitely not first team All CHSAA- I believe he was third team.

I cannot recall any first team All PSAL player at Fordham. Billy Calhoun and Michael Cooper were certainly not first team- maybe third team and honorable mention, respectively.

It's a nice honor for Joel, but this isn't the actual PSAL first team---it's one website's opinion.  They left Lance Stephenson off their list to honor him separately, so when the NYC coaches/media vote you can expect he'll be on the team one of the kid's on realscout.net's list won't be---however (lucky us) it won't be Wright.

I'm as excited as anyone to see him play at Fordham, but 6'6 kids generally don't dominate in college the way they do in high school.  I haven't seen Wright play, but from what I've read he doesn't have much of an offensive game from 5+ feet away from the basket.  The two things he really needs to work on at prep school next year are diversify his offensive game and learning to defend without beating the crap out of kids.  He fouled out of half of his games by the third quarter, and he got T'd up like it was going out of style.  I love that he brings a tenacity that none of our current big men have (not saying much), but he really needs to learn how to play with a bit more self control.

Don't want to spoil the fun here but he hasn't signed a letter of intent has he?  As a jr. it's only a verbal and with another anticipated down year next year, and continued uncertainty within the program,  I'm very worried we will ever see this guy as a Ram.  Are these fears justified?

As long as Grasso is still here, Joel will sign in November. He will be a welcome addition.
