Just to confirm - Mike Rice is interested in the job.
Thanks for that. Mike is my #2 choice behind JG.

With Grasso on staff as a precondition?

I cannot see Grasso staying if Rice is hired. PJ, yes, you could sit Grasso down and assure him he's being groomed for the HC job in 2 years when PJ moves on. Rice is young, and a Fordham grad, and I don't see Grasso staying when other, better suitors will come calling.

I completely agree. It makes no sense that Grasso would want to stay here when he will get better offers elsewhere. Also, very few head coaches want to have assistants forced on them. Red flags should go up for any head coach who is told that he needs to retain one of the former coach's assistants. Where are the players' loyalties going to lie -- with the HC or the AC? That has the makings of a disaster and if I was advising a coach who was considering an offer to be HC under those circumstances, I'd tell him to reject the offer.

I agree, but would add that we have a unique situation in that our incoming class, which we absolutely need if we want a chance to compete in the next 3 years, has close ties with Grasso. This isn't a situation where he's not losing anything by getting rid of the old regime's assistant. So wouldn't be in the incoming coach's best interest to hold onto Grasso for the sole purpose of holding onto these recruits? It's the difference between a .500 season and a .100 season.

Losing these freshman and or incoming recruits will set this program back for 3 or 4 years, we cannot afford to have that happen. It sounds like Grasso is the key to keeping thatg intact

I can see why a Mike Rice may want to retain Grasso, but I just can't see why Grasso would agree to stay on while a young HC takes his boss's job.

I can see why a Mike Rice may want to retain Grasso possibly but if I'm Rice it's a deal breaker if I don't want to keep Grasso and Fordham makes the offer contingent on keeping him.

Would he rather keep Grasso and the recruits or lose both?? Seems pretty obvious to me

I know it is only speculation, but only Fordham would have the audacity to offer a crap head coaching position with staffing strings to boot! 'Come coach our 300 handle RPI program...but you have to retain a particular assistant we like.' The gaul!

That is it in a nutshell (from what I know). And 5-7 players/recruits he brought here will leave.

Do you really think we would lose all of our recruits? I mean... the conditions at Fordham are still the same; young, inexperienced team with a chance to contribute right away, which was probably the selling point for a lot of these recruits to begin with. I think if Jio is still on the team, most of the recruits will decide to stick with us.

At the risk of calling myself old, Mike Rice, a graduate of Fordham in 1990 is not *that* young. It's possible that Grasso would want to stay on to see his recruits come to fruition which would prove that he not only knows how to convince players to come to the school, but also knows how to spot talent. The jury is still mostly out on the latter.

Don't lose sight of the fact that Mike Rice was a pretty potent recruiter in his own right at his earlier stops.

On 2/17 Brian Freeman had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 8 blocks as Potomac beat The Heights 55-51.
The following is a short blurb from a New England Recruiting Report article on the Prep season to date:
New Hampton is clearly among the top 8 teams. Chris Gaston has been tremendous

Can you explain how you know this. Have you talked to them do you know them or are you just guessing?

That's correct.
Confused here, RB...are you saying correct that Grasso won't stay on if he is passed over for the head job should Whit be fired...or simply correct 5-7 recruits leave if Grasso is no longer with the program?

I am sure they will stay if DW doest get fired, but if he does and Grasso is retained I would not be surprised to see a mass exodus!

Freeman seems to be one heck of a player, having already scored 19 points and collect ed 12 rebounds, in a game that won't even be played and completed until tomorrow, 2/20.

I wasn't knocking you Ram71, I make mistakes all the time. It's how you come back from them that counts. Your offer was very generous.

Potomac did beat Georgetown Day School 61-57 on Friday night to advance to the MAC Final against Flint Hill. There is no boxscore posted yet. So, there is no word on how Brian Freeman fared. The championship game is at 5 p.m. on Saturday at FH.
Potomac lost to #1 Flint Hill 83-67 on 1/31. Brian and one other starting teammate missed this first game vs. Flint Hill due to injury. So, it will be interesting to see how Potomac fares in the rematch.
