No.   Merchant Marine Academy in New York.   He coached at Wake Forest.

Red Skelton?  Please try to follow, I was replying to your post about loving the man on television and your seeing him perform once. Meanwhile you are clearly referring to Skip Prosser.

I heard you are an erstwhile business lawyer, not a trial lawyer.  So nice try.    I can't figure out how you find time for work.    Cheesy

Not surprisingly, you heard wrong.  You need to get better sources on pretty much everything.

Since everything relates to Wake Forest, even Red Skelton, here is the Wake Forest message board link.  They even have a politics section.

Maybe we can get Skelton, Denzel Washington, Michael Kay and  Smush Parker to travel to join forces and travel from city to city to promote Fordham. They can do 50 cities in 50 nights and charge 10 dollars admission . All proceeds go to the gridiron club.. It can be like a veriety show with Skelton thrownig spirals to Denzel as he screams " king kong ain't got nothin on me". Or perhaps they can do a theatrical reinactment of remember the titans.. Than we can have Smush spinning a basketball on his finger like a globe trotter while Kay yells " C YA " over and over again for 2 hours

Love the sarcasm, caliram, but I'd want some of the alums you've listed (as well as maybe Mike Breen, P.J. Carlesimo, Tony Reali, Vin Scully, etc.) spearhead a campaign for athletic facilities, but, sadly, we know that'll never happen.   Sad

I sincerely hope that the Fordham faithful, and the St. Bonnies fans give John Skelton a STANDING OVATION when he enters.    He most certainly deserves it!

ill guess (although i have no knowledge) Coach Moorhead will attend the b-ball game to meet -speak with John for a little bit.

any plan for John to say a few words to the football team.?

maybe encouragement-- u can get from here (Fordham) to the NFL..  while the odds are against it, it is possible with hard work, dedication etc..

some of the older players will personally know John --played with him.  but it may be "cool" for some of the younger guys to meet him..

does the book store sell    John Skelton Jerseys ?    they should start!!!!   Wink

John was interviewed at half time on WFUV.  You could listen yourself but in essense he said the Coach reached out to him and John related he told the coach that he would help Fordham Football anyway he could.  He attended a team meeting and stated he enjoyed being back at Fordham interacting with the players and his old friends.  The only down side was that we were behind at he half.  I was at the game and he signed a lot of autographs for the kids who attended the game.  All in all he is one class act!

Personally, I hope that unless Payton Manning is 100% healthy, he retires. But if he is at 100%, I think that it would be terrific if he signs with the Cardinals and John has the opportunity to be his understudy and learn from him for a couple of years. I just saw a report that Manning may have narrowed his choices to Arizona, Denver & Miami but that may be pure speculation and premature.

Joe, I mentioned in another thread that it might be good for Skelton, but it might also make him 3rd string.

Oh, nice. That would be a great spot for Skelton then. I still want Manning to go to Miami though.  Evil

In May 2011, Peyton Manning underwent neck surgery to alleviate the neck pain and arm weakness he dealt with during previous seasons.

In September 2011, he underwent a much more serious second surgery:  a level one cervical fusion procedure.

This guy is walking on eggshells.  One good hit and he winds up in a wheelchair, ... or, worse.

Hew should git out while da gittin's good.

Hes been cleared to play.  Apparently, the risk of him ending up in a wheel chair are as good as anyone else in the NFL, but no greater. A lot of people like to say that he's one hit away from ending up in a wheel chair, but so is everyone else in the NFL. The doctors said there are no lingering effects from his surgeries/injuries. I'm going to go with what the doctor said and not speculate.

I heard on espn, John Clayton I think, that he felt the QB job in Arizona was wide open and kolb and Skelton would shoot it out in training camp. If Manning comes in,  Skelton goes to the bench.  Two years in the league now, it's going to be showtime soon.  He needs to play. Peyton can't teach him anything if he's sitting on the bench.

I disagree. Why wouldn't John learn a ton from one of the greatest Quarterbacks the NFL has ever seen. It's all about what John puts into the experience - does he watch film with Peyton, does he ask questions, does he study how Peyton approaches a game plan and how he executes, does he learn from Peyton's leadership skills on the field. I do not think there is some extreme rush to get John on the field. He's proven to the league that he has the arm strength and the ability to win games. Now he can have the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest of all time.

$25-50 large talks and you know what walks. This is Manning's last pay day. Football
players are aware of the risks just as those who teach in the NYC public high schools.

Perhaps I didn't  point the way I should have.   It's not that John wouldn't learn. He no doubt would.  At some point, though, he would need the opportunity to show it on the field.  With Manning in front if him, he may only get the chance as a mop up or in case of an injury to the starter.  Being a backup to a great quarterback probably keeps him in the league but doesn't get him on the field.  Name the quarterbacks who backed up great QBs and then went on to a solid career as a starter.  Steve Young comes to my mind. Not many others.  Think of all the guys who sat behind Bradshaw, Favre, Brady, Fouts, Peyton Manning, Marino, Elway, etc.   How many of their backups can you name?

Skelton has had the chance to get on the field more than many thought he would at this point and has done pretty well.  He needs to be in a situation to play or at least compete.

To me much of it would depend on how many years Peyton Manning has left in him. I don't know what's realistic.

And Don Strock backed up Marino for years. I don't think that many NFL quarterbacks has that as their goal though.

I totally agree.  He is playing with fire and the opposing teams know it, and he will not be himself.....he's had an excellent run, made millions.  If I had been him, I would go into broadcasting, or would have stayed with the Colts in management or coaching.    He loves Indianapolis and the community at large.

As it is, the team that gets him is merely buying a celebrity and increasing ticket sales and television revenues.

My view?  He goes to Miami.    Why would Denver dump Tebow and claim a guy who has at BEST two seasons left?    Insane.

Further, there is Andrew Luck and Griffin coming along....both outstanding quarterbacks who will blow people away.   I would take a pass on Peyton, as much as I like him.

B2B, Manning only having a few seasons leftis precisely why a team with someone like Tebow would go after Manning. Help groom their future QB. And whoever gets him is getting a lot more than a celebrity.

Tebow doesnt need grooming.  Skelton does.     Tebow is the real deal, though his style is awkward.    In my opinion, it would be foolhardy for the Broncos to dump Tebow...for anyone EXCEPT Griffin....whom I think is even better than Luck.   I expect Griff to be an AMAZING quarterback...on every level.    A truly transformational and "franchise player."    Of course, there is the Powerball and there is MegaMillions.....so Luck and Griffin represent both lotteries.  LOL.

The CARDS make a good move dumping Kolb and picking up Peyton, but I dont see that happening....Peyton controls his future and I dont think he likes the NFC and I dont think he likes Phoenix and I don't think the Cards frontline will protect him...something he needs BIGTIME if his is to stay safe and healthy.

Note to Ram07:  you put too much faith in doctors.   While he may be cleared to play, the level of play is yet to be determined (and his psychological profile....will he be gun shy?).      I give him two years.   Just my opinion.   Could be wrong, could be right.

And to Ace: I do see Peyton's clear qualities as a player, teammate, leader, community guy, on and on....he is Hall of Fame and up there with the best of the best, including Bart Starr and all the greatest in the history of the NFL, he is also a HUGE draw for fans....and that is part of the equation here.   I wish him nothing but the best.  I am a big fan of his.  (I dont like Robert Irsay, but I do like the Colts.)

Finally, my opinion is of course like everyone's...nobody here knows Peyton personally (though I know someone who does).  Nobody knows whats in his head.    He could surprise all of us and strike a deal with a team and we all scratch our heads...and teams may make moves (a la dumping Tebow) that would shock us.

Hopefully this is resolved soon.

But if I am a team owner or coach, I am looking at Griff and Luck.
