I keep reading about this guard and that guard but we have a slew of guards.  Where is the Big that will replace Bristol?  Gaston is a terrific player and maybe like the kid from Bonnies this year.  I hope he does become that monster next year.  Maybe play at the next level.  But I am very concerned that we have not heard anything about a 6'10" or more kid that completes us as a team.  What do you guys think?

Does anyone know what happened to the kid from CardinalHayes who comitted to Grasso a few years ago before his sophomore season.  I forgot his name.  I think he immigrated to the US and had only been playing ball for a few years. I think he was at least 6' 7". I know Hayes has had good teams for the past few years.

Amadu Sidibe. He is going to Fairfield. Jalen Jenkins is a better college prospect, most scouts think.

And we have a shot at signing Jenkins.

Well, it had better be somebody who can really post up and help Gaston down low. He needs a tree down there to complement his Rubber Band Man style of play. It's (to me) amazing how he wraps around bigger players, shoots off balance -- often at a 45 degree angle -- and it goes in. No wonder he has lower back problems at times, the way he's always stretching and twisting. To say he creates his own shot is an understatement big time. But to really shine, he needs a more planted type of big man to help him out on both ends of the floor.

Anyway, we have this gem of a player for one more year. He is in the rare modern-day Ram company of Dunston, Haynes and Bev. So Coach Pecora, put somebody down low with him and let him work his magic. If you don't, we've wasted his talent just like we did with Dunston.

I'm glad to see that Pecora is spouting the line, "we'll get good players coming here to play......it's Fordham."
If he convinces himself, he will have a better time convincing others .......who might feel otherwise.
Of course they might just also think he's nuts  Wink

Rocky, I disagree.  It is still NYC.  The Academics are top notch and our gym IS fun to play in.  So I really think that Pecora is turning around a negative about us being Fordham.

Any Names as to the Bigs Pecora was referring to?

Thanks for the video clip.  Pecora does a nice job of representing us.  He mentioned two Bigs but no names.  Class?  Anyone?  Bueller?

I would really like to know also.  JUCO, high school, prep school.  Someone with the Bristol of junior year would even work well as I think Canty can take a good chunk of the load too.

If I know Pecora, he's got the big in mind, he's working to close the deal, and there won't be a peep out of anyone until the kid verbals, maybe not till he signing period opens next month.

All I am hoping for is a big who can step in and give us some quality minutes. I can live with someone that makes aggressive mistakes and may be inconsistent at times but at least knows where he belongs on the court and is somewhat fundamentally sound (knows how to box out and rebound). What we do not need is another body that is stuck to the bench all season because they are not ready to play. This is a program that is crying out for some immediate help. I do not want any long term projects. We have had enough of those.

Academics don't mean as much as you think, and saying that our gym is an asset in recruiting is a serious case of rose colored glasses.

TP said the plan is to sign 4. From what we know and what has been reported that most likely would be:

Mandell Thomas (2G)
Travion Leonard (F)
PG (Jermaine Myers, Sekou Harris)
Big (Jalen Jenkins)

Why would Jalen Jenkins sign with Fordham instead of signing with Temple, especially since The Owls will be a member of The Big East Conference ?

Because Temple has already signed Daniel Dingle who plays the same position as he does.

71 - What is the story with Jermaine Myers?  Do we have a shot at him?  I've seen he's had some very strong performances at Blair this year.

Isn't Jalen Jenkins only 6'5" -- why is he considered our "big" target?

TP needs to work his recruiting magic this spring. We need a couple immediate contributors, and I would be happy with a quick PG who will push McMillian for time.

Funny how we complain about the 3 guard offense quite a bit and now we have a thread dedicated to getting an idea on what bigs we are after and we end up talking about guards.

Ive seen Jenkins play twice and the kid can definitely play forward. The MSG annoucners called him the ebst unsigned player left in the city. He has long arms and played nearly exclusively on the baseline and around the basket. Exactly the kind of player we need at the forward spot.

T1L - There still are some quality players who understand the remotenees of playing in the NBA so a solid education IS on their list.  Sure I would love to see us build a new facility but unless I hit the Lottery and donate 25 mill, I don't see that happening anytime soon.  I do not have rose colored glasses, but as a '64 grad I have seen some very nice teams play in the past and as recently as DW's team going 18-12.  He recruited a great bunch of kids, but didn't build on it and he wasn't much of a floor coach.  Let's see what happens with TP.  I believe he has 2 more years to prove himself.

Agree. He is a lengthy and athletic 6'7" and is still filling out at 17. He would be a vg signing for us. He would see significant playing time immediately. In fact, he would be a likely starter from day 1.

What position would he "start" at on this team, Center? in our 3 guard offense, or would we go with two forwards (him and Gaston) and no center?  Nevertheless, I would be ecstatic if we signed him.

Jenkins at Forward. Can't see him on the bench behind Canty and Leonard. Need the guards to help on the defensive boards.

Does he have a skill set that streches out to the perimeter? In other words, is he a 3, 4 or both?

The reports are that he can make a 15 foot shot. He is seen as a 4 but could play the 3.
