Further back in this thread I mentioned that reportedly the job has been offered to Jim Ferry of LIU.

Thanks that would be an interesting hire and would open up another local job.

Grasso is relevant because he was a finalist for our job.

Kudos to him for another nice get.

While some of you continue hating on him, they'll just keep winning games while we sulk.

I believe that Grasso's performance as interim HC disqualified him as a contender for the job and that he was not a realistic finalist for the position, further we do not discuss those who were finalists when DW and the bad coach were hired so I do not see the relevance of discussing Grasso.

I look at it differently, it not so much that some posters hate Grasso (I do not hate the guy), but rather some posters love the guy too much and wish to continue to bring him up constantly.  Now we all discuss what we wish to but the past is the past and history has not been kind to his record here.  If you like the guy and believe he is the next big thing in coaching then I do not think you do him any favors by bringing up his time at Fordham

Seriously though, Grasso is not relevant to us.  He was a finalist because he became the incumbent via a battlefield promotion, but by the time the decision had to be made the program had completely melted down.  McGrank was right to look elsewhere.

It's not about hating, just recognizing that Graso is not at Fordham so it serves no purpose to keep talking about him here.  It seems to me like talking too much about coaches that we chose not to hire, or wish we had hired, or that didn't give us a look, etc. only serves to undercut the coach we did get and who is right now working hard to make our program successful.

Most of whut we discuss on this forum, serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever, other than to offer a platform from which to vent our feelings concerning life, and all things Fordham.

A lot less dear, however, than an hour with da shrink once a week, ... or twice, ... or maybe even thrice.

"Here" is a thread about Dusquesne who is in our conference. I agree, if someone wants to keep talking up Grasso and following his every move, then start a thread for it.  You are mixing apples and oranges, its not so much about the content its about where its posted. Flipping a thread about a conference member into a Grasso thread is the issue.  Gee let me guess who flipped this one?

Shortly after innocuous posts reporting Iona landing Sledge, we get "egoist", "back stabber", "people who realize their limitations", and "desperate".  Please.

This thread flipped well before this.

Agreed. It flipped when Sledge was brought up. Not sure why he was brought up in this thread.

Because Grasso is desperately trying to get his name out there, even at the expense of Cluess. Sound familiar? Grasso reminds me of Bobby Gonzalez without the coaching savvy

My thoughts exactly!

I know its hard for some of you to admit it, but I think Tim Cluess played some role in Iona's successful season which culminated in an NCAA tournament appearance.

Still, yet another move that cements Iona's reputation as the school for people who realize their limitations.

John, does that make Fordham the school for people who don't realize their limitations?   Grin

What's more funny? The typo or the Fordham basketball program for the past 30-years?  I'll still root for you guys though.  A good Rams team is good for the NYC college basketball scene...even with the sometimes pompous arrogance of a few of its fans.   Wink

Why wouldn't a fan of local NYC college bball root for the Rams, and Manhattan, Iona, LIU, Hofstra et al?  There's enough room and players for many successful programs in the area.  One thought is that we all need to play each other far more frequently than we already do.  My only problem is with St. John's and a few "intellectually" arrogant fans who sometimes spout off on this board.  Fordham is a great school...no doubt about it.  But why look down your academic nose at other local schools.  There are bright kids in many schools who will graduate and become productive members of society.  Both my daughter and I have benefited from Jesuit educations, but to think that neither of us would be sucessful if whatever circumstances prohibited us from receiving one would be wrong imo only.  To think that one can't receive a quality education from another local school is a tad arrogant.

I'm no big Iona, Manhattan or St. John's fan, in fact, they often make me mad when we play them, but Basketball Jones is right.  We shouldn't be so arrogant in our attitude towards other local schools because of their basketball teams.  I like the fact that he is for good local basketball played by all local schools and I agree with him that they should play each other more often.  While I still think that Fordham is the best local academic school IMO, I'm certain one can get an excellent education at any of the other local schools.

I love the rivalry we have with Manhattan and St. Johns and wish we would renew it with Iona. It's very easy to get worked up at game agains any of these 3 schools. I want them to do well (when not playing Fordham) because it increases the quality of the competition of the teams we play w/o having to travel to OOC schools I have never heard of in towns I didn't know existed.

Absolutely, SS.

I am sure that an OOC schedule vs strong local programs would increase attendance at the venerable Rose Hill Gym, and double/triple headers at MSG, involving local match ups, would pull in college b-ball fans.  Why not give it a try ?
