Yes, typical Pecora, trying to control the news. Whether the assistant quit or was fired, the assistant is gone a month already and Pecora keeps this change under the radar. The transaction page lists assistant coaches comings and goings all the time in timely fashion. All this tells me is that this is another example of Pecora Paranoia because he knows he has a sinking ship on his hands. And I am correct. Good to see you change that tune!

There's a difference between trying to be discrete and being paranoid.  Assuming Pecora even was trying to actively control anything, that shows good judgement in my opinion.  Although it's probably more typical to announce a personnel change soon after it is made, I can imagine all sorts of legitimate reasons why you wouldn't.  One reason for example might be that you may be doing a favor to the person who is leaving.  Another might be that you don't want to give an opposing recruiters any ammunition during recruiting season.  Both of these are in my opinion far more likely and reasonable explanations than your conclusion that this is "another example of Pecora Paranoia".

Also, your comment that "he knows he has a sinking ship on his hands" is also highly suspect at best.  If you look at our record objectively (without the bizarre obsession and hatred that you seem to have), it appears our program is actually rebuilding.  Perhaps too slowly for the tastes of many posters here, but I think you can make a quite credible argument that our programs seems to be rising rather than sinking.

I know you really wanted your friend to get the job, but you completely undermine yourself here with your vitriolic comments.  You really need to ask yourself whether your grudge is stronger than your love for your alma mater Fordham and desire to see it succeed.  BTW, in a previous thread you did say in response to my questioning that you are a graduate but you didn't specifically say you are a graduate of Fordham.  Are you?

Simple English-for the simple fans-the simple fans of Fordham Basketball who's whose best comeback always has nothing to do with basketball.

I don’t think most of us Fordham guys are that “simple.”  In fact, you’re the one who seems to need a class in “Simple English” (to use your own terminology).  The word you should have used above is the possessive pronoun “whose.”  “Who’s” is a contraction for “who is” (as in “Who’s going to win the game?”)

....Just who the ---- do you think you are trying to sensor censor the posters here-another Pecora?

A “sensor” is a device that measures something.  The word you should have used is “censor,” which means attempting to control people's speech or other forms of self-expression.

You said MAJOR-not me. You, like most of the posters here are delusional and don't know jack what your you're talking about....

Again, you don’t seem to get the distinction between possessive pronouns and contractions.  This time, you should be using the contraction “you’re” (it’s short for “you are,” as in “what you are talking about”).  Remember: You’re never going to be taken seriously if your writing is at a fifth-grade level.

Don’t talk to us about “Simple English,” when your own use of the language indicates that you need more than a little remedial coursework.  Didn’t they teach you anything about spelling, grammar, and usage at Quinnipiac?

(Once again, Ace, my apologies.  I know that you think correcting people’s writing on a sports board is silly, but I just couldn’t resist….and “In-the-Know" opened the door to it, with his comments about "the simple fans of Fordham Basketball" needing to be addressed in “Simple English.”)

WaterBoy, did you go to school here?  I am amazed at how nasty some of the comments are.  I bleed Maroon and White - but I also am not happy with losing teams.  In two years TP has increased our wins.  Let's give him a chance to do the job.  If after 4 years he hasn't moved us then we should go and replace him. This thread is getting even more stupid than many of our other stupid threads ( mine included ).

There is obvious hyperbole and gratuitous cheap shots are being tossed in, but I can tell you that I heard the exact same thing about staff change.  What I had heard was that as of 3 weeks ago someone was out and Parotta was coming in to be the top assistant. Now, since I heard that, nothing has happened so either it was not accurate or its a retroactive thing ( which would be odd ).

We all have typos and the occasional "grammo" so its a bit weak to keep harping on that crap.

Rumor mongering for the sake of same is bad. However, this one has legs and I think the original subject matter is fair game if its out there in the coaching community.

If you think the ability to write the English language correctly is "crap", 85, I'm afraid that you are sadly mistaken.

You can usually get away with grammatical mistakes in speech, but when you write something down, it is always there for those who can see, and you are judged accordingly, ... like it or not.

All societies are stratified according to the wealth, speech patterns, and writing of the members of those societies.

Unfair ?  Perhaps, ... but that's just the way it is.

Well, then perhaps we can pull out the overlay of "Jope" and the pee stained bedsheets or we can just re-visit when we play "Binghampton" again.  { Trey Blue }

The bottom line is that this story is out there and has been. If true,  people might wish to see in what direction program is headed, so the coaching change or possible change is far more salient to the thread than a few typos or grammos.

I hear ya, the hyperbole was un-necessary since the content appears to have some legitimacy.  Changes happen nearly every year in the rank and file so its not a huge deal in general. However, if its the top assistant, then its a little bit of a big deal ( oxymoron ).

I had also heard of another "definite" transfer out but since the only player on the posted NCAA list is Samuell, I won't coment.

Exactly.  Everything Pecora does, doesn't do, should or shouldn't do is interpreted in the most bizarre and negative fashion by some people who I think just want the guy to fail.

Portions of dat flick were very funny, especially the segments involving the persecution of The Jews and the Catholic nun water ballet.

This blog is reporting that Parrotta will be joining the staff:

He did an absolutely horrible job at Canisius.

He did an absolutely horrible job at Canisius.

In six seasons, Parrotta posted a career record of 64-121, but it was his record in MAAC play that led to his downfall.  Parrotta was 30-78 in the league, including a 1-17 mark this season.

The Golden Griffins, 5-25 this year, finished ninth in the 10 team league, three times under Parrotta, and, in last place twice.

Gee, ... he might feel right at home with our program on Rose Hill.

I like Parrotta. He was a tough as nails player and he did a very good job as an assistant coach.  I know he did a terrible job as a HC but there are so many guys in so many sports who are great top assistants but crappy at the head spot. Charlie Weiss, Larry Robinson, Dick Jauron, Steve Spagnuolo, Kevin Gilbride, et al.

I think we have to ferret it out, HC he is not. If he can drop back into that prior role and flourish again, then its a great get. However, this year will be the tell tale. Some guys get so shot from a disasterous head coaching gig they cant recover. Brian Mahoney was an unmitigated disaster his first job but rebounded nicely as top asst. at SJU.  Some guys just drop out of coaching like Jacko did.

The thread I thjink is more about Parrotta since he was the top guy at Hofstra next to Pecora. We ahd a huge dropoff, Pecora was doing great at Hofstra with Van Macon and Parotta so maybe this bolsters the staff.

ACE, do I get any credit for breaking this story?  Evil  ( joking of course ) .

The one thing I do not like is that Pecora is staying within his comfort zone. If he was going to shake up the staff, which is a good idea, I wish he had brought in someone who had not coached with him before.  I asked a few friends whether they thought Freddy Q would come back or maybe Hobbie since he is out at SMU with Doherty.  They doubted Freddy Q would want the job but were not sure about Hobbie.  I would also think that there are other assistants out there who may have been interested and would have brought a fresh perspective.  Bringing in Parrotta is a safe move, Fordham alum so the fans will like it and Pecora has a previous history with him.  As 85 said, some coaches are meant to be assistants and not head coaches so we will have to see what happens but this a neutral move for me, I am not excited by it but I am also not scratching my head either.  For once, I would like to be excited about a move we make.   Undecided

I remember Parotta and Matt Brust who was a great tough guy from St. John's going at it all game, Brust pointing at him and Parotta responding with a ncie dunk from the baseline and some taunts. That would have been a good fight Parotta versus Brust.  that was the Michael Porter game, when he beat us in OT and then skipped out of school never to be heard from again!

You honestly see the addition of an experienced assistant replacing a guy with a handful of years of experience a neutral move?  I hear you on the comfort zone (which most coaches do), but I can't see this as neutral. No offense to Kelly.

Given his results at Canisius, yes it is neutral for me.  That may change come the season if we see some in game adjustments that we did not see last year or if some recruit is specifically linked to him that ends up signing with us (I do not expect that to happen this year).  I am not saying it is bad move, but this was an opportunity for Pecora to go beyond assistants he had previously worked with but that did not happen.  I think he should have taken the opportunity and explore other options, I do not think that happened here.

I really like this move for a number of reasons:
1. Successful history with Pecora
2. Head coaching experience
3. Ex-Fordham player, it's been too long since the coaching staff had an ex-Fordham player
4. Also doesn't hurt that he's a local guy, and is no doubt familiar with the landscape and high school programs
5. He's a good guy

I think its always a risk taking a guy fresh off being canned and having just a horrendous situation as a head coach.  Some guys are able to transition right back and it clears the cobwebs a bit. Some guys never recover and end up announcing games on the A-10 network.

However, I think Parotta based on his history as a top assistant is light years better than Kelly.

How often does what describe actually happen?  And if it does happen, does it happen with experienced assistants or less experienced, third guy on the staff types.

I think Parrotta is more likely to offer suggestions and have more insight on game situations than someone with Kelly's experience would.

I can't put too much into his failure at canisius as I think that's a tough job. It's hard to say without knowing the details. I can't remember who last won at Canisius, but it was well over a decade ago, I think.

I agree he is light years better than Kelly so in that regard, this is certainly a positive for the program.  My focus is on the opportunity for Pecora to go outside his inner circle, which Parotta is certainly a member of, to hire a new assistant.  That opportunity was missed/ignored here and it is disappointing for me.
