The game of basketball is just not fun to me no more. I'm officially done with basketball.

Sorry to read this, he had tremendous talent. I understand he's a very good student. I hope he stays in college.

The day when a sport becomes a job…I hope he reconsiders…nearly every scholarship athlete goes through this.

I hope it's nothing more than a dispute with the coach or teammates.  If that's what it is, then a word of unsolicited advice which is to suck it up.  Life isn't going to get any better or easier after school and basketball and you won't always have the luxury of just walking away.  As coach Moorhead likes to say, it's about more than the next 4.  It's about the next 40.

Sad--but obvious for a long time that there was no joy--no fun in basketball. Best of good fortune to him in all his future  endeavors.

I was expecting to hear that he is leaving the program any day now, but to hear that he is done with the sport is shocking.  He is a gifted player, and I hope he finds a place to display his skills.  Looks like it will not be at Fordham.

This is 2009 all over again.  4-5 games in it is beyond apparent that our coach is done, then we lose our star sophmore guard partly/mostly because he is sick of the coach too.  What a mess!

I'd rather him go rather than sulk around the court every night.

Someone could have easily grabbed his phone and played a joke on him.  Perhaps it was unlocked or they figured that out too.

No doubt.  I would have graduated from FIU if my parents had not told me to suck it up and grow up.

Sure, I havent seen too much of that though. His attitude was poor last year too and reportedly cost Canty several games.

Agreed.  It might have involved Severe, but ultimately it is on Canty.

If it's not at Fordham, go someplace else and play.  Enjoy a career somewhere.  It's over all too fast.

That's pretty unlikely.  I'm hoping he just thought better and took it down.

What makes you think he is going to sulk around the court every night if he goes elsewhere?  Wink

I only heard stories, but it it sounded like Canty had the guts to step up to Severe and call him out on his antics, and Canty paid the price for it. Players typically do not get sat down for that.  Again.. only heard stories. Wasn't there.

Most students at Fordham already know that's what happend which ultimately lead to canty being suspended.  Jon signed up for this when he committed to Fordham.  If he wanted an easy path he should have committed to a winning program. He didn't commit to Fordham because he thought he could turn it around,  he committed to Fordham because he knew he could act however he wanted to and get away with murder.
